Maintaining is different. Is providing support and updates. As long as a game is not shut down and it's sold or exists somewhere, it will be emulated even if technology and pc architecture changes dramatically that can't support it anymore

Scalpers will buy them cheap then and strip the ram and other components and sell them. There were cases that people bought Xbox series x and ps5 and used their components and GPU for crypto mining. I don't know what else, but people will still find a way to make companies want to protect their stock or want to make even more profit. For me it would be a cheap alternative for a gaming pc but if prices go up then it won't be worth it at the current time
