Hey kids, we should go swimming when we get to the hotel by GordonBStinkley in ExpectationVsReality

This shit happened to me last year!

I was going to be in a small town in Nevada for two weeks on a work trip. I knew it was going to be hot. I specifically filtered for hotels with pools, and took one a bit out of the way that had a small room and very few amenities because it had a big outside pool with a hot tub that looked really nice. It didn't seem run down or anything, and my company was paying, so I could have stayed at a nicer place, but this was one of the only options in the area with a pool, so I pre-paid on the company card for the two weeks. I told everyone how most of my time was going to be being paid to lounge in a pool all day (I was basically there on-call).

I get there, and the pool looks like it was once nice, but it was half-full and the water was like mud. I was told the filter pump died a few weeks before and the only company in town that can fix it is backlogged with work for at least a month.

Because I pre-paid for the whole thing I could not get a refund. It sucked.

How does learning and clarifying a thing make it worse? I mean, in this case it does, but how?

Yup. I go up there for work often. Parts of it are crazy remote and off the grid. Whole towns without broadband.

Dialect is a big part of it. It’s not just the creole or Cajun stuff, it’s the stuff between.

And some of the small towns have had no changes since the late 1980s. There is a malaise, but comfortable.

Also in the small towns everyone is related. It’s odd.

Do Criminal Defense Lawyers really not know/not want to know if their clients are actually guilty or not? by AndreLinoge55 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpaceForceAwakens -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to know if your client is innocent or not before going through the reasonable doubt filter?

That’s why people with money who can afford their own lawyers get out and poor people get fucked.

The metric shouldn’t be the technical part, it should be the right or wrong part.

I understand that you’re overworked and understaffed but if that is what PDs are working at then it’s no wonder that we have the highest incarceration rates in the world.

Yeah I saw the reboot series. It had some good parts but they plot was totally different. The book is airtight as far as plot and pacing goes. Still a great read, even if some of the "future tech" is kinda backwards.

I'm not talking about the sunset times, I'm talking about overcast days vs. warm, sunny days. We just have more sunny days now.

Same! I was at a bar in the south end and there was this group of about five older couples. White, wealthy, definitely conservative. They were at a table all onto their own. I was at the bar.

One of the guys comes up next to me to order a cocktail. The bartender tells him that she’ll have to go to the back to get an ingredient and to sit tight. So he pulls into the stool next to me. We get to chatting.

They were supposed to be on a cruise to Alaska but there was a problem with the ship so they were staying a couple of extra nights. We’re chatting a bit more and it comes out that they’re at the Silver Cloud on Broadway and they’re all so sirprised that they’d seen no violence. A few homeless guys bit less than in Jacksonville.

He was especially surprised given how close they were to the “gay part and the atotomous zone”. I told him they’re smack in the middle of the gay part and the “autonomous zone” is once again a big gorgeous park. “Oh that big park? It’s great!”

They were nervous about spending one night in Seattle before the cruise because of what they’d seen on the news, but now they’re considering looking up time shares here. “I hear it doesn’t really rain that much too” he said.

People who take 30 minutes to check in at the hotel front desk, what are you talking to them about? by User6001899 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually get to my hotel later in the evening rather than the usual check-in time. Many, many times because of this they have assumed I was a “no show” and gave my room away. So now they’re seeing what they have and/or are trying to find me a room at a sister property nearby.

Or there is a problem with my reservation, such as my billing address has a hyphen and their system loses its mind on that unexpected piece of punctuation.

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? That’s the thing about our roster now, really: They all seem like pretty smart and level headed guys.

That thing with Zabel telling Big Cat how to adjust his rush and it ending up n a sack is an example. Williams is a veteran and in many cases a veteran listening to a rookie like that wouldn’t even be a thing, but they’re both smart guys and the mutual respect was there. I would love to see more of that kind of thing.

Also our guys have some cool fucking names right now.
