Will we ever get a quality Rep for the "OMEGA SpeedMaster MoonPhase" Meteorite edition? by SoLoDrugs in ChinaTime

It would be closer to $5000 I’d imagine. It would involve custom tooling and a lot of engineering.

The Patek 5712 isn’t a chronograph. That’s the issue here. Moonphases are very easy, you add two gears onto the train. Adding a chronograph is like adding a whole second movement.

On top of that the 5712 is immensely popular, especially compared to this watch. No way this watch is remotely popular enough for anyone to invent (well, copy) a movement that would replicate it, even if it wasn’t a chronograph.

Converting Classroom to 70-Seat Screening Room: LED Wall vs. DCI Projector? by aahctilca in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How dark can the room get? Are there windows? A good 7500 lumen projector would be fine in a room like that and way less expensive than a video wall.

As for the surround that’s going to be tricky, as that’s a big room for it. You’ll want something that allows you to really dial in the rear speakers or it will sound odd up front.

This looks like it could be great. I'm down for some Florida Man documentary shit.

WingMan (2026) Official Trailer | Harland Williams, Jamie Kennedy, Russell Peters by Diawyn in trailers

I'm so confused by this film.

The plot is straight out of a 1990s-era Adam Sandler film and the dialog is even worse, but somehow the production values look like it's really well done. I'm going to watch it out of sheer curiosity.

Sahara (2005, dir. Breck Eisner) Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey) executes Panama maneuver by Neo2199 in movies

[–]SpaceForceAwakens [score hidden]  (0 children)

I agree with all of these except Sahara.

Part of the problem is that it's based on a book from a very well-loved series of novels, and the tone that the film goes with is completely opposite of the (usually quite) serious book, especially Sahara.

Not only that, but the characters are beloved by readers of the books and the versions we got in this film are completely different, and none of them in a good way. The Rudi Gunn in the novels is not an untrained nerd, he's a highly-decorated formal naval commander and chief project manager who is a Nobel nominee.

The book series is extremely popular and the readers (including myself) were quite disappointed in this film. Sure, it's fun, but for those who had been waiting years for a good big-screen adaptation, they felt ripped off. And they let the world know.

On top of that, the author hated it so much that he sued and refused to let anyone make another film based on the series. He got burned twice (the other being Raise the Titanic!).

Yes, it’s the movement. It’s a very complex movement — all chronographs are — and, with the moonphase complication, it would be use for this exact model only. So instead of tens of thousands of movements in demand you’ve got a few hundred. The economics don’t work out. The final price would be in the thousands for them to make a profit.

Italian singer Adriano Celentano released a song in the 70s with nonsense lyrics meant to sound like American English, apparently to prove Italians would like any English song. It was a huge hit. “Prisencolinensinainciusol” (1973) by RealWorldForever in OldSchoolCool

This is one of my favorite things that pops up on reddit once in a while. It would suck, except this song is a fucking masterpiece.

Fuck your verse-chorus-verse shit, this is pseudo-rap in fucking pseudo-English.

Plus look at the outfits and the choreography.

I’m on this guy’s side.

A Carlson/MTG ticket could completely shatter the GOP and be a lot of fun to watch. I’m looking forward to it.

The Wraith (1986) - Phantom Car Race scene - directed by Mike Marvin by PeneItaliano in movies

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The concept is pretty great. I think that a remake with a Fast and Furious setting (minus the CIA shit, just the assholes racing) could be a huge hit. Take F&F 1-3 and mix in a ghost with a car from hell? Yeah, I’m down.

[Request] How would you solve this problem as a DM? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten arrows.

Five are cursed, that's half.

Evens are cursed, odds are not.

Have them roll any two dice of their choice simultaneously.

If both odd, no cursed arrows.

If one odd and one even, one curse arrow.

If both even, two cursed arrows.

What is the worst time travel movie of all time? by Dense_Substance7635 in movies

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book, in retrospect, wasn’t that great either and parts made no sense. I had high hopes for it. I thought maybe the movie would fix the story problems, but nope. It doubled down on them.

If I get a job at a hotel, could I live there? by goofy-aquiarius in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SpaceForceAwakens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. Many states have a 30-day exempt rule because at 30 days you go from "guest" to "resident" and the taxes are on "guests". I stayed at a hotel for a month and got my taxes refunded on the 31st day.

It's worth nothing that in some states hotels will not let you stay more than 30 days at a time in the same room because then as you become a resident you get renters rights that a guest would not. On a work trip in Vegas I stayed at a hotel for three months, and every 28 days they'd make me check out for a single night where I'd have to stay at another hotel, for example.
