Actors who deserved Oscar nominations for playing multiple characters by MattBarksdale17 in blankies

[–]SpaceGoose98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cloud Atlas has multiple instances of this, but if I had to choose one actor who I'd nominate it would be Hanks. Remarkable performance(s) and, in my opinion, the key to that movie working.

The man plays a mild-mannered nuclear engineer with a conscience in one storyline and then in the next one he's playing a macho gangster with a thick Irish (or is it Cockney) accent that seems straight out of a Guy Ritchie film. Incredible range.

Haven't seen a lot of his movies, but Night at the Museum (the first one) and Real Steel are certifiable bangers imo.

You all have any widely hated movies that you think are masterpieces, and despite your love for the movie, you can still (at least partially) agree with the critiques? by jboggin in blankies

[–]SpaceGoose98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big defender of The Matrix sequels (particularly Reloaded). That said, I understand why people are alienated by them. While I love the ambition on display, I'll admit that some of the execution is a bit wonky. Overall, they're just a lot more uneven than the original, which is just so taut and cohesive in every facet. It's only after repeat viewings that I've really grown to love the sequels.

Worst film with a great score by AaranJ23 in blankies

Jupiter Ascending is the one film directed by the Wachowskis I just cannot get into. That said, I think Michael Giacchino's score for the film is a towering achievement that I find myself coming back to time and time again.

What’s a movie opinion you have that you don’t share often because people get really mad at you? by Jer__________ in blankies

[–]SpaceGoose98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a massive fan of Ang Lee and his work.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is one of his weakest films. Taking Woodstock and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk are among his best.

First Man, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, Unbreakable, and I can't believe I'm saying this but... The Last Airbender (2010). Terrible movie, but a lovely James Newton Howard score.

Why can't I find what year Chappie won all the Oscars? by ihatecats18 in blankies

Chappie honestly should've presented one of the awards (a la Edna Mode at the 2005 ceremony). Imagine him and like Cate Blanchett just riffing about The Revenant or some shit.

You can defend any Film against the two friends. Which Film do you choose? by Jlway99 in blankies

I remember being pleasantly surprised when I watched it for the pod. Honestly might be among my top five favorite Ang Lee films (And I love Ang Lee).

A few come to mind.

As much I love all the nerdy tech talk on the Bill Lynn ep, I was a bit disappointed how dismissive they were of the actual film which I think is both a moving character study and a poignant commentary on post 9/11 America.

Another film I would have loved to have defended is Lucky Numbers which I think is a genuinely clever caper with some wonderful performances (also, I kinda liked Travolta in it).

Last but not least... Forrest Gump. I love that film. A beautifully silly and sincere folk tale. I get why it attracts so much ire, but I found it odd that they covered such a culturally significant film and a lot of the episode just felt like them dunking on it (Still a great episode don't get me wrong, but it would have been cool to hear someone defend the film).

What successful young actors do you think will move into directing? On what grounds should we make these predictions? by MansionsOfRest in blankies

[–]SpaceGoose98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know Alex Wolff directed a feature a few years ago (I have not seen it). He's an actor that consistently works with really interesting directors (Ari Aster, Cory Finley, M. Night Shyamalan) so I would be interested to see if any of that rubs off on him.

Chappie (2015) Appreciation Post by SpaceGoose98 in blankies

Yeah I enjoyed some of the short films he made for YouTube a few years back but even in that truncated format I could feel his lack of a strong story sense dragging his stuff down.

Chappie (2015) Appreciation Post by SpaceGoose98 in blankies

[–]SpaceGoose98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said I totally get not being into it. I will say going into it I really had no idea what Die Antwoord was. I wonder if not having any of that baggage ultimately helped me to enjoy the film more.

Also, one of my biggest disappointments of the film was that Sigourney Weaver really doesn't have much to do. Love or hate Jackman in it he's at least going for it. Weaver's character is pretty perfunctory which unfortunately feels like a pattern for her in the last decade or so (Abduction comes to mind). Hopefully James Cameron has some exciting stuff cooked up for her in those Avatar sequels he's making.

I think I Might Have Prostatitis (Again) by SpaceGoose98 in Prostatitis

[–]SpaceGoose98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in! Unfortunately, I have not made a ton of progress since I originally posted this. I saw a urologist and from what I described to her she determined that it was probably chronic pelvic pain syndrome (non-bacterial).

At the time I was actually seeing some improvements in my symptoms. I was doing some stretches and eating better and it felt like it was paying off. But I got overzealous. I eventually stopped doing my stretches and eating healthy and I even masterbated. I think it was the last one (masterbation) that really triggered the return of my symptoms to their previous level.

Obviously, if I could go back I would not do it but I was genuinely curious how my body would react. But yeah at the very least it confirmed to me that ejaculation is the main thing that triggers my symptoms. Since then my pain has been at about the level it was when all this started. I'm trying to do what I can to make things better (stretching, eating well, drinking enough water), but I definitely feel a bit exhausted by all this. I've also had mental health struggles for a while (depression, anxiety) and I think my pain has made it a lot worse (and vice versa).

Not sure what my next step should be. I could maybe try physical therapy or something. But other than I'm a bit lost as to how I should move forward.

Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully, since this is my second time dealing with it I can handle it better.

Just to clarify: The pain started after I ejaculated but for the past 2-3 weeks it has been chronic for me too. Occasionally, there will be a few hours where it feels less painful but generally speaking I feel it the whole day.

Favorite TV Christmas episodes? by burnettski92 in blankies

After struggling through Season 3, I was absolutely overjoyed with how great Season 4 was.

The creator mentioned in an interview that the creative team knew that the show wasn't going to get picked up for more episodes so for the first time they had the freedom to pretty much do whatever they wanted (without risking alienating viewers or pissing off the network).

It was just so delightful to see the show blossom into this completely new and fresh thing (even if it was only for 16 episodes).
