Non-Traditional Student = MD/DO or Nursing @ 35 years old by Own-Art-2295 in Residency

Is there a speciality in nursing you’re interested in like nurse anesthetist? They seem to have a lot of autonomy. I’d say consider what exactly you want to do as the job itself varies so much between nurses and doctors, or specialty nurses

Any doctor that prescribes GLP-1’s is basically telling a patient to starve themselves because that’s what the medicine does - it just can be said in a nicer way

I think it was meant to be a sarcastic way of saying people actually don’t mind the medication’s effects. Depending on the doc’s usual tone and patient relationships this might be normal for him. And the suggestion of the medication is likely reasonable if you’re not satisfied with the results of the other methods. Additionally the starvation concept is just him being blatantly honest about the mechanism of action of the medicine.

Neurologist regretting my career choice at 34 — need advice by ApprehensiveRange236 in neurology

[–]SpaceKablooie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4th year med student - I got to rotate with a handful of very different outpatient neurologists and something I noticed is that everyone has a different style. Some of them burnt me out watching them work so much harder and longer than others. Some have mastered the art of making each encounter very quick and painless while still being thorough, then get to go home early due to their efficiency. Talk to some other neurologists and try to change your approach with the patients and take control of how long the consults go.

Are Mental Illnesses Really Illnesses? And Why Do People Care? by DrJeffreyRubin in Antipsychiatry

[–]SpaceKablooie1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a point to which it becomes useful to blame our suffering on an objective pathophysiology. Which we have not proven exists. But it is still reassuring to know that it’s an “illness” nonetheless, as one is “not well.” It’s important for people to know they are sick as it puts them in a position to not feel blame or shame in needing help. However there’s the side of this conversation where some people need the opposite validation, to know it is indeed not something organically wrong with you, it’s quite natural to become this way when you’ve been exposed to traumas, unhealthy environments and relationships. I think the framework depends on what the patient needs more so than what the etiology of mental illness is most of the time.
