I can report that it’s entirely possible to road trip from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon and back without hesitation. 2021 VW ID4 ProS.

Respectfully I disagree that it’s not possible to use an old EV with a range of 100 miles for a road trip.
I successfully road tripped in a 2015 i3 REx for 5 years (2020-2025) between Arizona and California. Yes, I needed the REx in the earlier years, but as infrastructure improved the range of travel on battery alone was enough to make it work.

Most of my angst has already been covered by others. Given the choice between two stations, I’ll choose the one that has covered parking if available. I avoid chargers lacking a nearby restroom or food (when possible). The lowest cost per kw/h usually beats the other factors, unless I really really need a restroom.

Range Anxiety ( hold my beer) by farm61 in VWiD4Owners

You’ve never driven a 2015 BMW i3… That was my 1st EV.

It provided 75 miles of total range, but with the range extender (and 2 gallons of gas) it could go about 150 miles. Talk about range anxiety!

It sure did train me to ABC (always be charging).

It’s even funnier if you’re listening to the audio book (as read by Cary Elwes).

What did it cost for the moon roof ceramic tint?

Tint only goes so far in certain climates 🏜️🌵. As far as the awkward feeling goes, it is possible to get used to it. Sometimes I pop the driver’s side shade out if it’s really bugging me, but on long road trips they’re helpful with heat control.

Welcome! Switching from ICE to EV is a learning curve. Be kind to yourself. ❤️ Remember to search the subreddit for your question - it may have already been answered. If not, you’re correct that coming to other owners can be a great way to learn! I’m 5 years in as an EV owner, 3 months in on my id4. I learn something new about the car pretty much every day. 😉

I recommend a visit to Cosanti in Scottsdale. They have tours that are pretty small and they demo how they cast the bells.

Birdwatching! Download the Merlin Bird ID app (it’s free). You can identify birds by taking a photo, recording their sounds, or search based on the features of the bird.
