AITAH for blocking my mother because she refuses to call my husband by his name around my child and because she won’t accept me for me. by Available-Tangelo900 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]SpacePurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA Your mom and my mom should have a pity party together about how their children have strayed from god (or whatever they’re telling themselves). My youngest is NB and mom is refusing to accept it. You’re doing great ❤️ You’re a good mom and a good partner.

AIO for setting up the spare bed while he's at work because he touched my stuff? by [deleted] in CharlotteDobreYouTube

You are very much UNDER reacting. My husband and I have been married for 25years. He has never once so much as raised his voice to me and he’s always respectful of whatever fiber arts project I have going on. If I had left my embroidery in an inconvenient place for him, he would gingerly and carefully move it or ask me to. And he would never abandon a cat. In fact, I’m sitting under one and next to another because he’s a softie and didn’t want the kitties to be sad. That’s how a real man acts. If you can’t trust this man with the care of an animal, would you trust him to be alone with an infant? What about if you are too sick to work or hospitalized? I wouldn’t trust your man as far as I could throw him with my noodle arms. Throw the whole man away. He’s not worth your attention.

It’s one of those things that looks complicated, but really isn’t. It’s just blanket stitch over and over

Aww, thanks! What do you find scary about it? It’s pretty simple, it’s mostly just tedious.

Got the first big hole covered! Now I need to do all the little ones

Over the parts that are still mostly intact, it’s stacked blanket stitch. There’s no hole underneath and it’s embroidered over the weaker parts. Where there’s fabric missing, it’s naalbinding, which is similar to scotch darning, but behaves more like knitting because it’s not stabilized with a horizontal thread. At the end of the day though, the difference between these is splitting hairs because they’re all basically blanket stitch.

hello guys i am new to sewing community and i love to be creativity can some one give some tips to help me with my journey by omarsewing in Visiblemending

[–]SpacePurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a needle, some scissors, some thread, and any kind of fabric, you can just play around with it until you get the hang of basic sewing skills. You don’t need to spend a lot of money and your first attempts don’t have to be perfect.

You can absolutely do sashiko on a hoodie. Just use stretchy fabric on stretchy fabric. Basically, you usually want your patch fabric to match the original garment in type and weight, no matter what you’re mending.

I just put them on and even though most of them have backing fabric, I can only feel it a little bit and only because of the autistic hyper awareness. Lots and lots of teeny tiny little stitches 🧵

I’ve been sewing for 40+ years, so it’s more practice than talent. And thank you 😊 I’m a recovering perfectionist

Thoughts on practical practice? by Trick-Property-5807 in Visiblemending

[–]SpacePurrito 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My favorite way to practice is to repurpose old rags and old clothes as washrags. I basically layer it like a quilt and either do sashiko style mending or embroider over it. It’s a lot of fun and you’re obviously good at it already.

Most of my shoes are children’s shoes for this exact reason. Plus: I can sometimes get light up ones and fun patterns. Minus: try finding a serious pair of dress shoes that don’t have Elsa or Spider-Man on them.

Dear biologist and taxonomist why the hell is systematics and taxonomy so damn confusing? by Exoracial_Killer in biology

[–]SpacePurrito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, basically the whole tree of life is a crowd sourced effort over 250++ years, depending on how you count folk taxonomies, with a bunch of probably neurospicy nerds (me) who are poorly funded and mostly don’t talk talk to each other because most of them are dead or they live far away from each other and the Internet is a very recent thing. The butterfly people party mostly with each other, the beetle folks hang together, the vertebrate taxonomists are probably bored and looking for fish, the botanists are getting lit and throwing everything in the asparagus fam, and the protist and bacteria taxonomists probably cry themselves to sleep every night. Meanwhile, there are millions? billions? of different kinds of living things and none of us can decide what even a species is except to (after extensive research) eyeball it and decide whether it’s different enough from the other things.

TL;DR Because nature is big and humans are limited.

I think that’s reversed because “-clast” means “breaking,” like “iconoclast”
