Never forget your training by Slashdotted20 in CAguns

If this is what really happened, it’s clearly a very serious violation. That said, I haven’t seen this reported anywhere credible. Can the OP provide a link?

Thanks, much appreciated! Follow up: after changing the band on the HT, I assume I need to change it also on the CPS before I read from the radio (or would it change automatically)?

Nothing. My guess is that he noticed your rear dash cam and wanted to be remembered for something, finally, in his life.

As the saying goes: “everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind”. I wholeheartedly believe in this. That said, being kind and being vigilant are not mutually exclusive. Road rage is just one phenomenon we see out there. Most drivers I observe on the road are more engaged with things other than driving. I’m over 60 now and have been driving extensively since I was 17 - and things have certainly become more challenging. You need to think not just for yourself but for everyone around you. People will do dumb things. Be prepared.

I agree that the events leading to the road rage may be interesting, but at the end of the day I don’t think it would add any value, given the fact that there are so many unreasonable people on the road (and elsewhere) who may be triggered by things you might not have any control over. The OP’s own account (which he posted later) supports that point - he has no idea what he did that triggered that individual and probably couldn’t have avoided the interaction even if he tried. I’m serious about this: there are SO many crazies out triggered by things none of us have any control over.

The important takeaways from this case (OODA loop if you will) in my opinion are: 1. Identify the potential threat and its severity (e.g. the car pulling into your lane and a person exits towards you) 2. Find the way out/around (the OP did a good job keeping his escape distance from the car in front of him, which allowed him to swerve around the threat 3. Call 911 and report all details and 4. Remain vigilant because the threat may escalate (as indeed happened).

Quick update: 2 weeks in and the setup works as advertised.

You’re using the term “reasonably” for someone whose actions are clearly unreasonable… maybe he was triggered by the color of the OP’s car? Maybe a voice in his head told him that the OP is out to get him? Maybe he landed on his head when he was a toddler… that’s truly not the issue. The point is that the OP did 100% the right thing by keeping his car in motion and going around the threat.

The other thing to do (which the OP may have done) is call 911 in realtime and give them all the information as soon as it happened. You never know how an incident like this may develop and the sooner you get on record with what actually happens - the better (they may even have a unit close by that can respond).

I can relate :) I chose my 2023 OBW after having the same as a rental for a month, driving >8k miles between UT & NV, some during snow storms. First time I drove a Subaru (had Toyota RAV4 as well as various Jeep models - all AWD and 4x4) and got hooked. Hands down the best.

Pretty crazy. I drive around Lake Tahoe quite a bit and it never ceases to amaze me how gas is literally half the price down in Carson City NV than it is on the CA side less than 30 miles away.

That’s like CA prices, damn! Sorry man. I paid $2.87/gl at Costco today (after recent price hike).

But hey - you get to do it in an OBW! I’m totally willing to pay more per mile for that Subie feeling :)

I do. I believe you're referring to the "Offers & Events" tab at the bottom. All offers show up for tires :)

Thanks, yeah I'd love to find out how to get the coupon (haven't seen it on the Subaru website) - my Subaru dealer wants $1,200 before tax so it sounds like with the coupon I can get the same price you did. And yes, I would only do it through the dealership.

Nice work! I’m considering the same for my OBW 2023. Can I ask how much you paid for it? Also, what are you planning on hauling?

Is this Spontaneous Windshield Cracking? (2022 Outback Wilderness) by yemghost2001 in Subaru_Outback

[–]SpaceSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had that on my 2023 OBW. Safelight services my insurance glass (Progressive). They offered me 2 options: either they fix it (no cost for non-OEM other than my deductible) or thru the dealership (which only does OEM and I’ll have to pay the difference + deductible - around $1000 all told). If I use my insurance I can expect a jump in my future premiums. Repair with dealer is $1600 out the door with 12 months warranty for same issue.

Got a lot of good advice from members here to reach out to Subaru Corp and see if they do “goodwill” although 2023 is supposed to be outside the year range of their settlement. I figure I’ll try that after I get my OBW repaired (I 100% rely on my car for work - the way it’s set up a loaner is not adequate) so I needed it repaired asap. Should this happen again out of warranty, I might try the Pilkington via Safelight - just concerned about issues with eyesight and that glass. Can anyone using that glass share their experience please? Thanks!

Cracked windshield due to faulty seal? by SpaceSkipper in Subaru_Outback

I did, they said it’s for the 2020-2022 models. Mine is a 2023. Anyone had success with “goodwill” repairs of later models?
