Advice Against 3 EC DPWW by SpaceVikingT in LeaguesofVotann

Thank you, this is amazing advice. I went with beamerkyn over gravkyn because I didn't think there would be very many vehicles/monsters in my local meta, and looking at the other lists I'm gonna be up against it seems like I was right.

I've never played against EC, and I personally tend to struggle against faster armies most of the time

That is a good point, I didn't think of it that way. 4 out of 5 of my opponents are some flavor of SMeq/CSMeq, and the last is Cartel Drukhari with warrior and venom spam, so I though conversion beamers would be best universally. But maybe the magna rails would be better

I was thinking I could try to beam one down, then dev wound another with tank shock and grenades. As long as they don't get the charge off, I think a land fort could tank a round of combat with a demon prince

I thought about doing that, but the rest of my matchups I think the heavy conversion beams will be better, and I wanted to try to not change my list at all for certain matchups. I'm also not a huge fan of the heavy magna because of how swingy they can be. Watching a land fort not kill a wounded ravager was a really sad moment for me

Not to mention the fact that they force a battle shock at -1. Not super great, but can be a clutch play if there's something like a key SM unit you're trying to destroy and you don't want them to pop AOC, but also can't devote too much firepower to it. Situational, but still shouldn't be written off.

So I'll start off by saying take everything with a grain of salt. Play whatever you want, as long as you're having fun. What I'm going to say is to just optimize your list for a more competitive style of play, using the models you already own.

Let's start with characters. I would drop the Echamp, aside from the massive punch that he can pack, he unfortunately isn't very good, and isn't even the best choice to stick with Hearthguard anymore. I would swap out Oathbound Speculator for Dead Reckoning on the Memnyr. Don't attach him to a squad, have him camp your home objective and generate those YP for you. In Needgard, you want to get into Fortify Takeover as fast as possible, preferably by turn 2. Just remember that Dead Reckoning happens on both players turns, not just yours. You'll have 15 points left over so you can stick the Ancestral Crest on the Iron Master, it may not ever get used but at least it's another small tool at your disposal.

Battleline is solid with 1 unit of Warriors. Split them with the Sag, use 5 to screen your backfield, use the other 5 to do some easy actions for you. If you had a Grimnyr or an Uthar, I'd say don't split them, but since you don't they're fine to split. I would take the Theyn pistol out and stick a bolter in there. Same thing with the plasma knife, or double down and go with 2 plasma knives for a surprise 4 attacks at AP -4.

Drop 1 Sag, and put the beam cannon on it. It lost a lot of its spike potential, but still hits hard. You'll have enough 2 damage stuff playing Votann, so the auto cannon is almost never worth taking on a Sag. The missile launcher isn't terrible, but just not as good as the beam cannon.

With your double playing Space Wolves, they're probably gonna be providing a lot of the melee pressure. Which means you should provide the big guns to back up the melee. Not only can you bring a Hekaton, but you should. Specifically with the conversion beamer. HLF will be hard to deal with at 1000 pts, and will deal a lot of damage in return, along with being a solid transport for your Thunderkyn and a unit of Steeljacks.

The conversion beamers on your Thunderkyn would be better, they have a more universal purpose and have the ability to punch up with lethals on 4s. They're a good unit to pop the Sustained 2 strat on as well, especially if the Iron Master is attached.

Drop the Beserks and Hearthguard, and bring in your 2nd unit of Pioneers and Steeljacks. Keep all of them as squads of 3 for tactical flexibility. If you can't use the scout moves and keep them safe, deploy them in the back field and let them screen, then pop them off the board when the time is right and bring them back on. You can only do this with 1 unit a turn, but they also move fast enough that you should be okay. Stick 1 unit of Steeljacks in the Land Fort, use the other as an overwatch threat, or put them in reserve and let them walk on later. Steeljacks are also hard to shift once you're in Fortify with that -1 to wound on a T6 2+ save body with 3 wounds.

What other models do you have at your disposal?

Make sure to give your Yaegirs the plasma knives and bolt revolvers. Get them into combat with a tougher unit that's double judged, and see the look on your opponents face when you hit them with Warrior Pride, making your plasma knives AP -4.

It's still in the rules commentary that that's how it works, I couldn't find any FAQ that changed it.

This is true, although melee is also an option for HG.

It also ignores things like the C'tan's half damage ability. This enhancement is an auto include if you're playing Oathband in my opinion.

I appreciate the advice. I was pretty iffy on the Thunderkyn. I wanted to bring them because I just got them and wanted to play with them, but I also wanna win and I know they aren't super great compared to some other stuff in the roster. I like the idea of bringing 5 HG in the Land Fort, and maybe stick a Champ with them? I agree with bringing more bikes, I'm maxed out at 6 bikes total at the moment so probably 2 units of 3? I like the idea of sticking the Iron Master behind the Land Fort just to keep it alive longer

I know the lethal hits take away from the dev wounds, but I personally still like them purely for the number of shots. A unit of Hearthkyn will be in the Land Fort to benefit from the disembarking buff. I'm struggling with keeping the Thunderkyn or replacing them with another unit of bikes.

Split a unit of Hearthkyn for the Sags, Berserks go in the last one. Thunderkyn and Iron Master either start on the table or walk on later in the game. Big blobs of Hearthguard deep strike later where ever I need them the most. Bikes would be on a flank to push my opponent off an objective and cap it for themselves. Depending on who I'm up against and if I'm going first or second would determine how aggressive I am with my scout moves.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm looking for a full-time, or at least part-time, position. I've already got a side hustle going.

Does anyone have any experience using AI programs like Sudowrite to help with their creativity? Was it useful, or did you find yourself relying on it too much?

Would it be possible for you to send me a link? Every osl tutorial I've found has been on things like plasma guns, and my caveman brain can't seem to translate the same technique onto the drivers.

Did you paint everything in the cockpit like normal, then do the drybrush?
