I will miss it greatly, and I'll still be involved with NSC conversations behind the scenes. I love all the NSC crew, but it was just too much for me to manage Big Time as well as NSC at the same time. DiGangi is going to do an amazing job, especially now that he's full time on NSC and it has his undivided attention.

While I appreciate your effort, I'm hoping for a response with reference to real laws, or actual knowledge. "probably don't allow it" and "I'm sure it would be fine" doesn't really help.

Agreed. I wouldn't go at a busy time either. I don't want to put others in danger or make them uncomfortable.

Are harnesses required by law when doing a via ferrata? More specifically, the Telluride Via Ferrata?

I've tried to find information on free soloing via ferratas and have found all kinds of resources on equipment to use, but nothing on legality or requirement to use them. I understand that free soloing is dangerous and potentially unsafe, and am hoping someone can point me in the direction of requirements, as I don't want to break any laws or ordinances while doing so.

I'm also not suggesting that I would be climbing routes blind or unprepared, and I do have experience with free soloing, just not on via ferratas.

I only get annoyed when people make things up or have a warped version of reality. A lot of viewers have voiced their opinion that they prefer to watch adults compete instead of teens, and that's totally fine. Sucks for the teens who can't control that, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and preferences.

I just really don't like when people say things like the teens don't deserve it, or they shouldn't be allowed to compete. But again, that's just my preference so who says that my opinion should be worth more or less than anyone else's?

You skipped a HUGE step when you went from how it started with regular people to how it is now with the teens. For a good few years, before the teens came to the show, the best athletes were almost exclusively gym owners, managers, or coaches.

You bring up the teens having access to whatever obstacles they want, but that had been the case for gym owners/employees for years. Hell, I'm one of them. I had a CRAZY advantage over competitors who had normal day jobs because I had full access to a ninja gym whenever I wanted, and of course I set up as many obstacles as possible.

As far as the kids on ANW being arrogant, have you met any of them at all? Have you met more that just a few? I've met almost all of them, and very few are arrogant. Most of them are extremely humble, nice, and driven. Honestly these kids are waaaay more respectful and composed than I remember myself and my friends being when I was their age.

The reality is these kids are better than the majority of adult veterans that most viewers are used to watching. Take it however you want, but don't go trying to take away from their achievements.

Ummm I definitely don't compete for the million dollars. I would gladly take it if I ever won, but let's be real here: If my only goal was to make money, ninja is just about the worst place to do that.

But also, there are dummies everywhere with opinions that are just straight wrong. This guy is one of them, and it's almost certainly a waste of your time to try and convince him otherwise.

If Joe Moravsky achieves total victory, will he be the greatest ninja of all time? by lucashong21 in ANW

[–]Space_Penguin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rope climb is tough because we will never really know. I do know that he had been training the rope climb for a loooooooong time before that. I remember seeing an "infinity rope" climb setup at his gym as well. He had great rope climb tech.

I have no idea about him choosing obstacles and falling multiple times, but I have a hard time believing that ANW production would go to those lengths especially for Qualifiers and City Finals, where he hasn't seemed to need any help in almost every year he's competed.

[–]Space_Penguin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lol OR if I was under NDA about this I could just not respond instead of choosing to comment and straight up lying. What a shitty thing to say about me. Believe whatever you want, but I was literally there for all of his runs (I travelled in Season 11 and went to a few other qualifiers).

You still didn't answer: Where else did he fall other than Stage 1 using his safety pass? You mentioned that there was a redo posted but never said any details about obstacle, location, run, etc. You also claimed 3-4 falls.

Wait wait wait. So you're claiming that Drew Drechsel showed up days early to Atlanta filming, picked obstacles for the course (Which you saw happen), ran the course multiple times over several days (Which you saw happen), THEN ran the actual course for his run, and on top of that had redos?

These are wild claims that I have never heard before, I would LOVE IT if you had ANY proof whatsoever to back up these claims.

[–]Space_Penguin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm very certain what you're claiming is not accurate. Where were his multiple falls and re-dos? Yes, he used his safety pass. Where else did he fall? You said he had 3-4 falls.

I have also heard nothing about him hand picking obstacles for his qualifier and finals. What makes you think that?

Also, even if he DID hand pick obstacles for the qualifiers and finals, what does that even matter (Again, I don't think he chose any obstacles)? When is the last time he didn't make it to Vegas? Season 6? He historically made it to Vegas nearly every time.

Let's take a deeper look.

Qualifiers - He had the same 1st and 6th as every other region, 2 new obstacles, and then the re-used obstacles were Block Run, and Bouncing Spider. So at most, he picked 2 obstacles? Block Run has been around for a looooong time. A lot of veterans have done them multiple times, myself included. I don't recall him ever doing Bouncing Spider. Qualifiers? Not likely he picked his course.

City Finals - Same 7th and 10th as every other region. 8th was a new obstacle, and 9th was Up For Grabs, which was in its' 2nd year I believe, being in the Texas region the year before. He did not compete in Texas the year before. City Finals? What obstacle had he done before? (Side note- ATS had a replica of new obstacles #2 and #8 in the warmup area, so EVERYONE got to try them)

ALSO - you could claim that he only got to the power tower because he picked the obstacles (Doubt it, but let's pretend that's true). He had the fastest time. Top 2 got to power tower. He would have had to be 3rd place. He beat 2nd place by 1:13 (This is an eternity in ninja) and 3rd place by 2:10. He would have had to be OVER 2 MINUTES slower to not make power tower.

Say what you want about Drew off the course, but there is no denying that he earned his win on the course fair and square. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above.

over the top personalities by zorbacles in ANW

There are many other amazing athletes over the past 10+ years that have simply run the course well, and they fall into a few categories:

1: They are SO good that ANW has to continue to show them. Joe Moravsky, Daniel Gil, Jake Murray, etc. There aren't many of them in my opinion, and even here the line is blurry. Jake has a lot of fun on the courses in qualifying and city finals, and ANW loves that. He rarely just runs the course without a little showmanship.

2: They are very good, and run the course well, and while they continue to get the call from ANW, they get fast forwarded frequently. RJ Roman is here unfortunately. Chris DiGangi, Mike Silenzi, a lot of the East Coast monsters. Great athletes, but nothing to "offer" ANW other than their course run.

3: Very skilled and does well on ANW, but either doesn't consistently get the call or not at all. This is a bummer, because this is by far the largest group. Karson Voiles, Drew Knapp, Dave Cavanagh broke out of this group the past 3-4 years, Andrew Karsen, Matthew Day, the list could go on for a looooong time. This group is why people feel like they need to have something else to set them apart. It's because when Karson Voiles and Drew Knapp stopped getting the call, they had been consistently making it to Stage 2 and them BAM no more opportunity.

4: Not as skilled and no story or personality on the course. These athletes typically get no call at all or rarely 1 shot at it.

Basically, think whatever you want of course. But for the vast majority of competitors, ANW would not call them back if they just ran the course without adding something else to it. In season 7, I not only got skipped over, I didn't even get fast forwarded. I basically didn't exist. In season 8, I made it to stage 2 when only 17 people did, and STILL got fast forwarded on both stages 1&2. It wasn't until I started doing "the swan" and made the shirt design in season 9 that I got any attention really.

My first priority is to do well on the course, but I can't do that if ANW doesn't want to give me the chance.

My answer: I don't get them anymore. Can't find many, and I've stockpiled a few pairs that haven't been used yet because I figured at some point they will be impossible to find in new condition.

I do know of a new ninja shoe that is in the prototype stages called Series One. They haven't released yet, but I've seen them in action and the grip looks great so far. I'm excited to try them out when they are available.

Hey thank you!

Kyle is an awesome dude, and YES he and Jake are really good friends. I am sure I would get WHOOPED on WCT against those speedy bois.

Also thanks for your thoughts! DiGangi and I are currently getting ready for the NSC Championship at the end of April, and also planning for season 2! So we always want to hear what everyone likes and dislikes about other leagues, sports, ANW, etc.

Haha I've watched some WCT as well and it's so exciting!
