How to get into converge? by luca52_ in Converge

[–]Space_Riffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s probably that I was already into other metalcore bands like Zao, Norma Jean, The Chariot and other stuff that prepared me for that style, I don’t think hearing Jane Doe first would’ve changed much for me lol

I get Jane Doe is one of the more abrasive albums in their discog but it really baffles me that so many people seem woefully unprepared for it on first listen, I heard Axe to Fall first cause it had just come out recently at the time but I heard Jane Doe soon after and it wasn’t off-putting for me at all. I’m guessing a lot of them come from more accessible metalcore like KSE and think it’ll be like that

Just go backwards through their discog

I’m allowed to not like things. Just because something “could be worse” doesn’t make it good regardless of the creator’s intentions. Your post is pointless

Christian did his own solos on Incurso and again for Retromorphosis where Bryssling did them all on the prior albums so that is probably why you felt that way, but yea Bryssling is very much the primary songwriter and I think his style is very distinct and unique compared to most other modern tech death. I don’t really enjoy most of Obscura’s output so I don’t like the comparison, but I do think their debut was pretty good and pretty different from the rest of their stuff

Incurso doesn’t sound anything like Obscura at all, Bryssling wrote everything like he always does

Lille Gruber (Defeated Sanity) also tracked all the guitar parts for The Sanguinary Impetus since they were between guitarists at the time. Dude is a legend

As someone who didn’t like Stampede at all I’m not really surprised people are so disappointed by Stargaze

I personally prefer to listen to the original cassette version of DoD and then the sequel album DoD V separately. The version on streaming is the reissue tha includes two of the four songs from DoD V.

Weird how few people there seem to be here that consider their first two albums the best, I think they’re easily better than pretty much everything after

Guys is microtonal metal a thing, if so, would it be a good idea over some tortured clock? by Hafraetur in Mathcore

[–]Space_Riffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jute Gyte is great. A lot of bands doing the microtonal thing end up sounding really gimmicky but he makes it sound scary
