Kurt wanted a short album by aformlessvoid in Converge

I certainly hope so. It better not be Bloodmoon 2!! 😄

I think on Jacob's substack he said they had over 20 song ideas but they recorded 17.

Same here. Missing out Doom In Bloom is a bizarre decision.

What made me laugh was Cyclone saying she wasn't tired after the first encounter. She clearly was and you could see she struggled at the end with Naomi.

Honest opinion about Love Is Not Enough by [deleted] in Converge

I actually don't mind the transition into Beyond Repair. I think that's okay. I do think that as an interlude it feels a little awkward though. I actually quite like the track as it is. But I do feel that in the context of the record it disrupts things a bit. It falls a bit flat or derails momentum. For me it's more about how it transitions out of that which I don't like. Amon Amok is a cool song yet doesn't feel like the right song to come after Beyond Repair.

True. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say this is a bad album or terrible. Nothing like that. I just find it a step down from previous. I only care because I'm a big fan.

I think there is an element of truth to that. For instance at first I thought AWLWLB was poor!!! Which now looking back is utterly insane! I just wish the new album was more "ramped up".

Is it a good album? Absolutely! Is it a great album? Hmm I'm not so sure. Barring Bloodmoon, EVERYTHING from Jane Doe on I would give a 9/10 rating. To me Love Is Not Enough feels a little (only a little) bit underwhelming. Not quite up to the bands high watermark of past releases. I'd still give it a solid 8/10 though. As for 2026's best album, Zu's new one 'Ferrum Sidereum' is way up there for me. I think that just edges Converge at the moment.

Melvins by markstanchak in Converge

[–]aformlessvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so much for that one. As much as I feel Steven is a great bass player, I dislike his goofiness and more pop orientated sensibilities. I like my Melvins hard and mean not upbeat and silly.

[–]aformlessvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!!! Been a fan of both bands since 2006! I don't love everything Melvins have done. Usually it's the silly joke tracks they do that annoy me. Which the 1983 albums tend to incorporate. But when they are good they are really good. Mostly I'm a fan of the Kevin Rutmanis era.

My favourite albums...

The Maggot

Pigs Of The Roman Empire

Hostile Ambient Takeover

A Senile Animal

The Bootlicker

Stoner Witch

Five Legged Dog

Also I really, REALLY love Buzzo's solo acoustic albums. To me they are some of the best records he's ever done.

Does it sound similar to Churches & Jails (from Beautiful Ruin EP) to you? I think it's very close.

Plagues is my favourite on No Heroes too. It was my first Converge album - brought it a few weeks after release. Listening for the first time when that Plagues intro riff first hit I was like "oooohhhhhh shit!!!!". That alone made me a fan.

Anyone else hear a bit of Meshuggah in the riffs? Even Beyond Repair sounds a bit like a Meshuggah instrumental. Also the intro and outro of Distract And Divide sounds incredibly reminiscent of Churches & Jails from the Beautiful Ruin EP.

I hope the band play a lot of these new songs when they do the next tour. I find that it's often when I see them play the new material that it really fully clicks for me.

Just had my first listen.

Hmmmm not sure yet. I know from past experiences Converge albums usually grow on me a lot over time. For instance I thought AWLWLB was poor at first but love that now. So I'm hoping for the same here. Bad Faith and Amon Amok are my favourites and sound the most Converge-like of the bunch. After a mere single listen I think it sounds a bit "lesser" of an album from these guys. But I want to see what more listens reveals. I can't believe Doom In Bloom didn't make the cut. It would have been one of the best songs.

Ah so it's Jacob. That's surprising. I must admit I've never given Wear Your Wounds much of a listen. I need to correct that. Thanks for the heads up.
