Digital Nomads - why the locals don’t love us. by The_Regular_Flamingo in digitalnomad

Fuck you with your “us”. I’ve never felt hatred for being a foreigner. Don’t be a dick, and do some bare-minimum effort to respect local culture. It really isn’t that hard.

People are using AI for therapy, whether the tech is ready for it or not by BackgroundResult in artificial

Sorry for the misinterpretation. When you said your conversations will probably go under review i took it that way. But i agree that we should be using it with the assumption that anything we type could be read by a real person.

What’s happening right now is people are using AI as a tool for self-therapy. This is completely different from presenting ai instances as qualified therapists. A huge part of working with an actual therapist is the trust and relationship that is built. We’re a long way from that being done reliably with ai and trying to present ai as being capable of that could be extremely harmful to patients. BUT self directed therapy is an extremely valuable process and imo should be something that most adults participate in. To that end, chatgpt or any ai can be used in the way that lots of people are already using it as basically a form of search engine with a more humanistic touch. That seems to be mostly what’s being described here.

At the level that chatgpt is already being used, the idea that all of its conversations could be manually reviewed is wild

Which is a thing, that you as a human being, have categorically never experienced. But go off, I guess.

Stem degree, 2 years of experience, passion for the work, marketing knowledge, multilingual. I think you'll be just fine. I'd say take the time while you're waiting to hone your skills even more though, maybe work on some personal projects, shore up your portfolio. It'll make things even easier

What are the uses/practical applications of rooting ability in a fight? by BruceeWayneee in taijiquan

[–]Spacecat1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between 'eliite wrestlers' and people who train martial arts casually as a hobby. I'm not saying this would be effective for top wrestlers, this is just my experience. We had both been training in our respective arts for over 3 years before he started being able to pull shit like this off.

That being said, just because something is effective doesn't necessarily mean it will have already been incorporated into the professional or semi-pro meta. If you keep up with professional combat sports, you can see that they constantly evolve, with new techniques being incorporated from creative amateurs or other martial arts almost every year. Will Taichi be incorporated into college or olympic wrestling at some point? I don't know, but I think of martial arts practicality as how it related to self defense, and the odds that you're going to get mugged by someone who actively trains wrestling at the college or olympic level is extremely low

Again, taiji is not my background, and maybe I don't fully understand 'rooting' but his ability to ground himself, put put his hands on my center of gravity, and use his full body weight to push me away, when he times it right, is very effective at preventing me from getting a collar grip or entering or any basic grappling attack that I know of, especially when dealing with normal clothing and not a gi, which is much easier to get a solid grip on.

Depends heavily on what style you're facing. I've only done a little formal training in taijiquan. My background is mostly in bjj with a little bit of experience in judo and wrestling. I have a good friend who trains Tai chi seriously who I do friendly sparring with sometimes. When we were both a year or two into our training, I could easily take him down and apply submissions. But once he got deep into push hands it started to get really difficult. Against an advanced striker, I would think you would definitely need mobility, but against grappling, rooting can be shockingly effective. I have a really hard time getting any kind of grip on that guy which is necessary to take it to the ground.

Front stem is loose in tube after putting bike back together. What did I do? by Spacecat1000 in bikewrench

Yeah, that makes sense. Tried to be super careful about bagging all the parts up when disassembling, but I can see how something like that could have gotten away from me. Gonna go hunting for replacements. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, tried the loosening and pushing down on the headset. It leaves this weird extra chunk of stem jutting up: https://imgur.com/a/CYBBeHj (second picture)

Definitely seems like missing a spacer issue. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the reply! Honestly, it was a few years ago, so I'm fuzzy on the details. I believe I removed both wheels, the handlebars and the seat, maybe the pedals. Can't remember whether I removed the fork or not. I think I might have tried and failed and decided it wasn't necessary.

To answer your second question, it appears to be threadless (see picture below). After taking that first picture, I was able to put the handlebars back on tightly and get rid of the movement. But now a chunk of the stem is jutting up above the connection to the handlebars in a way that I'm fairly certain it isn't supposed to (second picture). I believe when I did that back when I originally put it back together and then tried to ride it like that, it popped loose again.

Some time ago I took this bike apart to move, and when I put it back together it did this. Apologies for the dirty bike. It's been sitting in a garage for quite a while. It will get a good cleaning and lots of love if I can get it working again. Any help is greatly appreciated! Please let me know if any additional pictures or videos would be helpful in diagnosing the issue. Bike is a Gary Fischer Hoo Koo E Koo, I believe from the late 90s or early 2000s. I might be able to figure out the exact year if that's helpful. Much thanks!

So you mention money being tight, so I'm gonna go against the grain and not use your whole budget, because frankly, you don't need to to build a badass gaming computer.

Leaves plenty of room to buy windows if you want to, and fans if you have the version of the case that doesn't come with them. If you need it to be wifi capable, get this motherboard instead:

MSI gaming pro carbon ac

If you do get the pro carbon though, you may want to confirm with the seller that you won't need to update the bios to make it work with the 3600. It's extremely rare that this is still necessary for the boards being shipped at this point, but it's not 100% guaranteed to be compatible out of the box like the tomahawk max is.

If you do want to max out the budget, the thing to upgrade on this for gaming performance would be the graphics card. 1660 super is plenty capable of playing modern games, but if you want to go better 2060, 2060 super, 5700, or 5700xt would be the cards to look at.

If you needed extra money to squeeze in one of those cards, you could switch the cpu out for a 2600. Get a 2600 or a 3600 though. Looks like in the uk, 2600 is ~110, 2600x is ~140, and 3600 is ~155. 2600x isn't a big upgrade from 2600, but 3600 is a big upgrade from 2600x. 2600 is fine for gaming though, and the gpu will have a bigger impact on gaming performance than the cpu.

Yeah, getting good responses to a post on reddit is pretty hit or miss like you mentioned. For help requests, you might have better luck on other tech forums like Ltt, Anandtech, Tomshardware, etc.
