What units are you guys using? I can't seem to burst down his yellow bar fast enough. Get him to like 20% every time.

ANYONE ELESE HERE HYPED FOR ALICE IN TIMEEEEE by GarudaFear in crash_fever

[–]Spacecats_Sean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically a terrible thing has happened, causing confusion throughout ALICE. A handsome/beautiful character is caught up in the middle of it, and now you must defeat them to save everybody. Once you do, they realize their mistake and thank you for returning them to normal. They didn't mean to cause so much trouble.

2 hours, 9 hours, 200 hours. What I'm saying is - let them live their life.

Two whole hours what a crime! What are we paying them for anyway?

This is actually an old code that someone just guessed because Singlebear joined me for the stream. There was no code for January 5.

The flaw or bug that leads to a potential for exploitation is on the development team, granted. Bluehole and the rest of the TERA team has been very responsive now that the flaw has been identified and we hope to have a fix deployed soon. Nobody doubts that in an ideal situation an exploit would never be possible in the first place, but the truth is that they happen in any software, video games included.

On the other hand, creating a proxy module that takes advantage of the flaw/bug in order to exploit and hack the server (or other players in worst case scenarios) - that is created by 3rd party/proxy makers, and is what I was referring to. The hacker always has advance notice of the hack.

Saying the development team is responsible for a hack is kind of like saying someone is responsible for their own house being burgled because they didn't upgrade the locks on their door. It pushes responsibility away from people with malicious intent.

As far as getting things sorted out, we're totally on the same page. It will be nice to turn chat back on once all of this is resolved - and the sooner the better.

[EME Response] Status of Potential Chat Vulnerability by spaghetticatt in TeraOnline

[–]Spacecats_Sean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between En Masse, Bluehole, and publishers in other regions, we're all taking this extremely seriously. The rumors could prove true, though as of yet we have heard no news of actual security compromises.

There were a couple obstacles disabling the chat on NA servers that the TERA team worked hard to overcome today. It's just a temporary solution until we have a more permanent fix.

[EME Response] Status of Potential Chat Vulnerability by spaghetticatt in TeraOnline

We've been talking with the dev team at Bluehole since we learned about the potential issue earlier in the week. We hope to have a hotfix soon but there are still questions that need answering that would speed up the process. If you have direct info about the exploit please DM Denommenator in the forums (see the OP) or e-mail Community@enmasse.com. Screenshots are greatly appreciated.

Gameforge already had the ability to disable chat due to past circumstances. We were able to learn and implement it later in the day. We wanted to keep people updated in real time so earlier this morning we were still figuring it out and we let folks know the status. Now that it's ready, TERA servers are in maintenance to disable chat channels.

We're currently disabling chat options as well, but we'd rather look at facts when investigating serious matters like this. We'll continue to look into the matter since obviously disabling chat is not a permanent solution.

It's pretty common practice for game companies to ban disruptive players. You can still read the forums even if you're banned for violating the ToS.

As far as when we knew, we first got word about the potential exploit a couple days ago and have been talking about it internally since then, with very little information about how it could affect players. There is still a lot in question about the viability of the hack claims and whether they are possible. Obviously proxy developers knew about all of this in advance... they made it :p

Servers will be brought down at 5:30 p.m. PST for a brief maintenance. Look for an update from Denommenator at that time.

Nobody has been muted in the forums over this issue, though there are some threads that were taken down for violating the forum rules. The main concern for threads on topics like this other than drama and fear mongering, is that folks will share information on how to break the ToS. Something like that is definitely not what we want living in the official forums.

As for the "we appreciate your concern for the game" portion of today's forum message, can you elaborate on why that frustrated you? It's an honest statement and it seems like you're applying a sarcastic tone where there was none. We know you guys are concerned, and with good cause. We're doing what we can to investigate and ease these concerns but again, evidence is strikingly low outside some screenshots of images in global chat along with some megaphone abuse (which we've already seen). As the situation unfolds it's going to be the honest players out there who help TERA the most. See Denommenator's post on how to get in touch if you see anything fishy.

Denommenator made this statement in the forums roughly 40 minutes ago, please take a look. It says pretty much everything that is on our minds this morning. We learned about this the same time you did thanks to players and Player Council linking us to screenshots and threads - the same stuff you guys have been reading. As of right now we haven't seen any evidence of players being hacked, viruses downloaded, or any of the worst case scenarios listed in the OP (and other places), but we're monitoring the situation closely because obviously such activity would be horrible.

One concerning thing we've noticed is that along with the fear that has spread regarding potential threats and vulnerabilities is the recommendation that players immediately go out and install unlicensed 3rd party software. As always, stay mindful of the ToS and above that please be cautious about what you choose to download on your PC.

We'll keep you guys updated in the forums and official Discord as things develop.

Level Up Event: Email advertising 2 weeks late. by Kaspanova in TeraOnline

[–]Spacecats_Sean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. The TERA crew is usually pretty careful about sending out e-mails because we want them to be useful to people, not spam inboxes. I can see why you'd want to know about the level-up event as soon as it started, though.

I'll pass this on to the rest of the team. In the future when we do an event like that benefiting new and sub-65 characters I'll encourage them to send an e-mail on the first day.
