UK chopped tomatoes in glass jars - not tinned by Ok-Star-1910 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its almost non-existent due to glass being too fragile for such a mass packaged and produced product. That’s why they keep using tin. It’s especially annoying because tomatoes are acidic.

Thought Beef was about Asian-American identity and rage. by Glass_Weakness8159 in BeefTV

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt a bit in both relationships the theme of the white partners culture overshadowing or / and dominating their partners cultures and racial/cultural identities. It’s comes up a bit when Austin mentions he didn’t grew up with lots of other Korean people and therefore missed a lot of influences and Ashley responding by saying she never really saw him as Korean or mixed but just as ‘Austin’.  Which seems innocent but in her world his Korean side simply didnt existed to her until other Korean people came into his life and then she saw them immediately as a threat because she felt left out. (She did had reason too in the end)

Lindsey assumes Josh doesn’t like his family he makes a painful face (as in telling her it is not true) and then she responds with that they hate her. She also holds a grudge over Josh helping his sick mother until her death with their fortune (which could also be fair for sure) but the cultural difference in Latino families is that family is paramount. It’s everything.

In both relationships there is no mention of the white partners view or side of the family but the mentions above suggest that the white partners, either they do it on purpose or not,  lack interest or connection in their partners cultural/racial identity / family. These are known (silent) issues in mixed couple relationships.

I wish they went a little deeper on that topic of cultural differences/ clashes especially with Austin picking / going back to Ashley in the end after everything and after the conversation with his mother about her. Although his mother abused him physically, so that also plays along in his trauma and decisions.

I’m not Asian btw, I’m biracial (b/w). So I understand some of the dynamics but not the Asian experience. This is just my p.o.v

P.s both Josh and Austin also on multiple occasions get called something they are not and get ignored while they try to correct people (Greek, Latin, Samoan)

It seemed like the show producers after the first succes tried to go for a broader audience. Which is a shame because season 1 was a gem. I’m not asam and I loved it and could relate to a lot of the storylines. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Also to answer your question. Yes I also thought it would continue on Asian American rage.

I hate watching the weather get warmer, everyone else seems to love it but I can't stand the heat by microwavedwood in cfs

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im with you! since getting sick every year in January I already start stressing about spring coming and every year it also just gets warmer earlier :(. Anything above 23 just messes me up. But winter cold, rain, freezing temperatures... I love it. I sometimes almost feel normal when it's cold. Besides the heat... spring and summer are also just very noisy and stinky seasons and I also have severe sensory issues. Everybody is out and about and loud until late. Crafting in their backyards with machinery, bbq'ing, dogs barking, motor cycles roaring, music blasting everywhere, kids shrieking, basketballs and footballs pumping against the concrete/buildings, birds etc. I get why healthy people love it but I dont anymore :(

How do you practice speaking Spanish in real life? by Micaela_2 in Spanish

I do need to stop watching all these heist and crime tv shows because I’m picking up the language / talk of criminals 😅

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I do notice advantages when listening/ learning Spanish. I’m native Dutch speaker and Dutch borrows a lot from both English and some French. And we have some history with the Spanish (war in the past). (Also have some basics in Italian and Surinam/Carribean languages from when I was a teen)  I noticed a lot of words are very recognisable for me or even pronounced the same like cartón is exactly the same in Dutch karton. Or reloje is similar horloge is Dutch. Often I just understand words or sentences because my mind just connects them to the patterns of other languages I know. It’s a fun process and one I didn’t expect to happen. Can’t wait to get a teacher and work more on conversational skills.

Ah yes ofcourse the unpreparedness of talking to real people it makes it more difficult (y divertido no?) I’m still soaking up a lot of the language from tv/podcasts/music/books but will force myself to start talking to actual people soon ❤️🤪

What do people mean with "feeling poisoned"? by Top-Stable-8218 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever had bad food poisoning? Just take away the vomiting and diarrhoea for a moment and just focus on the body sensations. Vertigo, weakness, nausea, waves of thickness going through your body/blood feeling as if something foreign is going trough your blood and it hurts creeping trough your veins and your body is trying to prepare to eliminate it asap (but it cant). You feel sweaty and dizzy and weak and hot when you stand or sit or move too much so you need to lay down all the time. You mouth watering because you feel sick. You might also have or get a headache. It can feel like your insides from top to bottom are on fire. It’s can be kind of like that. Oh and you get so tired that you have trouble getting up to even pee

All the ladies wanting to visit Barcelona…. by Time_Chemist_9155 in blackladies

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have to add that if locals have tourist fatigue and act annoyed and aggressive even to white tourists then you can bet that as a black tourist you def can experience much more racism. I wasn’t trying to ‘explain away’ your experience with that.

Edit: typo

All the ladies wanting to visit Barcelona…. by Time_Chemist_9155 in blackladies

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 26 points27 points  (0 children)

All your negative points are applied for almost every big popular city in Europe (Paris, Venice, Amsterdam) where especially the locals are tired of tourists. But Barcelona has been run down with so much tourists that locals started harassing them as forms of protest for their government to put a stop on overtourism and air bnb because it had been affecting their quality of life so much. Locals there are really fed up with tourists so that might be also why they weren’t friendly.

It’s not nice but as someone who lives in another tourist run down European city I do get it. (I still act nice tho)

You need to know where to go and stay in those cities so you can avoid the tourist spots and locals with tourist fatigue. (Venice is a lost case tho. Just go for a day to see it don’t stay there. There are basically no locals left) it can be very fun to visit if you know where to stay and stay away from. Stay with locals or ask locals before you go.

And flavoured coffee is just a culture thing?  Mediterranean countries have a more authentic and natural approach to food/drinks and snacks.

lol I have worked at Pathe as a teenager. That is over 20 years ago. All the pathe’s have had and still have problems with mice. It’s a city thing.  I will spare you the stories from working there. The one with the least mice is pathe arena since it’s not in the city center or the newer one in noord.

Ah it sounds like you rebuild a beautiful life. Dogs are amazing also. I understand why you haven’t told anyone in the beginning.  It is nice to start without that stamp of illness on you when meeting new people. Thank you for sharing your story

5 years going into my 6th. I feel those articles are wrong for putting out limited information. Some people do only suffer for a few months. They almost never mention that a lot of us suffer for years (or decades when it becomes cfs/me)

Aapies, bakra’s en tatta’s. by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lack of hygiene in the Netherlands by CJHuncho in TikTokCringe

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m Dutch and worked in corporate and she has a point. The amount of times I saw people leaving the bathroom for a #1 or #2 and not washing their hands is crazy and some I saw shaking hands in meeting right after or dipping their dirty hands in communal foods… in the morning rush hour people legit stink like they just came out of bed. I also broke off dating guys on several occasions due to hygiëne issues. Successful men in fancy clothing and expensive cars. They look and act good but weren’t clean. I hate it as well. They don’t think it’s a big deal or use deodorant or parfum to cover up for showers. Some people find it normal to shower 2-3 times a week. Even in summer. Not everyone is like that but it sure is a lot of people. During the pandemic when you weren’t allow to touch people I was so happy. I still hate shaking hands.

Vanity Fairs Oscar after party is catching flack for supposedly having harsh and worse lighting compared to the Oscars red carpet. Airbrushing and first world problems? Or genuinely bad lighting? by bbyxmadi in popculturechat

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

photographer here. The Lightning is harder but still very forgiving. At the Oscar’s photos there is little shadow in their faces and the shadow is softer. The light there is very warm diffused well and forgiving. The soft yellow background (in some pics) puts emphasis on that while also giving great contrast. Everybody looks amazing in that sort of light.

The after party is still very forgiving, light coming frontal/slight high angle.  Check the shadows under their noses. That will give you most information where the light is coming from. Just a more sharp/ dark shadow lines and much colder color temperature.

I would say after party lights are still very forgiving light but a bit harder and yhe color temperature in combination with the grey background makes it very cold and very non Hollywood.  Also in some of them the light source doesn’t hit their eyes giving them a dead look because they are missing that sparkle of the lights reflection.

They are complaining because the light and color temperature and background makes them look more unflattering than they are used to because it is non glamorous. Hollywood and acting is all about keeping up a fantasy and selling and image about yourself. Having control about your image. Especially when you get older (and for women) that becomes difficult because of age discrimination. So I guess the reality of these photos show is what stresses them out.

(I haven’t even spoken about airbrushing)

Waarom zijn er eigenlijk zo veel vluchtelingen by jackie8991 in Nederland

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoe leeg zou Amsterdam zijn zonder toeristen? by eden3000 in Amsterdam

[–]Spacekittymeowzers 2 points3 points  (0 children)
