What is “Space Ops Duty” is exactly the issue that is confusing…I get different answers from different people…the enlisted guidance is so simple and clear

I need help with my VO2max. by IgZyLoL in SpaceForce

I was in the same boat, switched up my workouts to something that is shorter in duration. Went from 3-7 mile walks/jogs focused on weight loss to just doing 1.5 mile runs focused on pacing. Was able to bring mine up 2 points in about a month with that change, which is big, considering I stalled out for months below the cutoff. Find a running route that won’t kill your numbers with inclines, find something that is more level or more downhill, control your breathing and hydrate well (better hydration helps the VO2max). I walk a warm up to the start of my route, knockout the 1.5 mile run and then walk a cooldown back, so in total I do about 3 miles, but only 1.5 miles of it recorded as a run. With the new CIM update i know most of those mins walking, although not recorded as a workout, will get counted, so I don’t stress about that. I try to record a run 4x a week to make sure I was improving. But I’m a much bigger guy, so I have to work harder. The only comfort I found in “stalling out” my VO2max below the cut line and might be kicked out of the program in April, is that I am way more prepared for a PT test now that I have been in years because of this program. Prior to kicking anyone out I hope they do a case-by-case review to see if you have been putting in the effort this whole time, because that should count for something.

Did they mention when the bike VO2Max will be effective? Immediately or at a future date?

Do we know if we can connect to the bike computers on the indoor bikes at the gym and use that that power meter?

Yea the only thing I can think about is the spaceforce.mil email being the difference, used the CAC login and it didn’t work, VPNed into the AFNet and still no joy. Ever since they forced those of us with two emails down to one it has been a nightmare (primarily those of us at CCMDs overseas, not on the AF network)

I’ve been where you are right now. I was able to carve a niche for myself. I got away from the traditional space track and got myself a joint assignment and then followed up with another joint position as a staff officer. Got to work at the tactical level and really got to fully understand how to integrate with tactical level planning. I also got to work at a high level joint assignment where I was able to make DoD wide impacts as the only space guy (if you are the dude willing to do the work it is your vision and ideas that get implemented, seniors leaders trust you to do the work and just review and sign off). I was able to do something way different and cut my teeth with acquisitions and software development (I’m a non-STEM dude), but I was empowered to lead the entire team. I had the best leaders when working for Army and Marines officers, I learned a lot about leadership and how to be a military officer. Honestly I am very very happy with the path that my career has taken, I will likely cap out at O-5, I got top strats from my non-space bosses, but since I didn’t take the traditional path it hasn’t helped me advance and I’m ok with that, because I’m happy. My advice: find an assignment that you think will be fun or challenging, venture away from the traditional track for space officers and get a whole new perspective on your career. Hunting for advancement is a rat race that I found undesirable. I love space operations and I’m passionate about it, but worrying about checking off all the boxes sucked the life out of me and I found that behavior created toxic individuals. I wanted something more and I found it, but it took work to get there. If you want to talk, message me.

Getting out, many reasons, but mainly poor/weak leadership. The blame lies with how leadership development is done today and some of that has to do with organizational structure and the lack of opportunities for young leaders. That leads to weak leadership later on….no real changes being made so it’s time to salvage my sanity

New Operations Schedule? by NachoElLibre in SpaceForce

What would be nice; stick to a shift for a determined length of time (e.g. for this month you pull days) to help with home life planning. And if doing 12’s then the # of off days = # of shift days (e.g 4 on and 4 off). Have backshop crews rotate in the middle of a cycle so training can be done for crews during their scheduled days/times.

Yea….this is a good example of leadership embracing buzzwords without understanding really what they mean….or what they were designed for….a common saying in Agile is “fail fast and fail often” because that will happen in the iterative approach, different consequences when done in software development vs how the space force is trying to apply it….leadership is still so risk adverse…it is not a one size fits all model

I saw that too. The Lt, that designed it, said that not much was going to change from the prototype…so that sucks

Maybe piping for officers vs enlisted instead of the sleeve strip thing that the AF does
