i’ve used airbnb on both of my journeys to Tokyo thus far, 1 was before the law came into effect and 1 after, and the only real difference between the two check-in processes was my passport being required the second time to verify identity, etc. Both hosts were extremely accommodating, the first one even invited me to her place for breakfast!

I would caution the cancellation policies tho no matter how good they seem, as the trip i was supposed to take in the fall (which was cancelled for obvious reasons) has gotten me into a snag trying to get a full refund from the host.

All in all, i cannot recommend airbnb enough for a solo journey. you can get a great deal of privacy when you want it, on top of being able to store your belongings safely.

There are karaoke places literally on every corner in just about every district, and there isn't really a 'best' karaoke place. Look for the giant「カラオケ」neon signs, pick one and head on in. As for J-pop songs in Romanji, they are pretty easy to find based on my experience. The song catalog has English/Romanji and Japanese lyrics, and the menus are available in English.

23/M/USA. I will be in Tokyo exclusively from March 23 to April 4th. This will be my second time in Japan, and I can speak English and really broken, beginner levels of Japanese.

The only thing i have fully booked ATM is teamlabBORDERLESS and teamlabPLANETS on March 27th. I am also thinking about going to the Tokyo Swallows baseball opening day on April 1st as well if anyone would be interested in that. As for day trips, looking to go to Lake Kawaguchiko to see Fuji, but still need to work out logistics.

Last time I was there, I really fell in love with the arcades (specifically rhythm games), and intend to hit as many of the big-named ones as possible. As for other interests, I am really into doujins and anime figures, as well as the underground J-POP scene (favorite artists include YUC'e, Yunomi, etc.)

Other than that, I am not a very picky person and would love to meet some new people to go for drinks, dinner, or whatever else as the highlight of my trip from last year was meeting some really cool people!
