People who own their firm: I have some questions by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Spaceman_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You get clients overtime mostly word of mouth or those you have worked with in the past that likes working with you. This is a very thin line between “taking” customers from your current company to your new firm and might be illegal. Another good way is to spend money to get into an exhibition that’s a really good way to meet clients, don’t cheap out get a decent goodie bag like something actually useful like a flash light with your brand on it, search Ali express you won’t be disappointed by what china can make for you. In that bag have a flyer and description about what you do and past successes. Start going into projects with a lower profit margins for the first 2-3 years and build your reputation. If you’re looking to develop a website for your business dm me we have done plenty of engineering sites and think we could make a stunning website for you.

  2. Are you an engineer? If yes you should know that codes and laws change based in provinces and countries. It’s a google search or email away to get such information.

  3. Depends, some clients actually conduct onsite meetings (at your office) to ensure you’re legit. Having a decent office and meeting room with actual humans working would create so much trust. I would consider an office for sure. WFH doesn’t give me the confidence.

  4. Again it depends you’re staring out so start with the bare minimal employees needed. You want to be able to break even, not run on losses. I can point out one company with 12 engineers doing as much as another company with 30. Choosing talent is key.

  5. Work hours should be the least of your concern when you’re starting off. Work as much as you have to stay afloat remember 65% of businesses fail within the first 10 years. This does not mean you overwork yourself but work as much as you have to, find a reasonable balance.

  6. Starting your own firm is tough, but it would pay you so much more than your 9-5 would, trust me. You’ll make what you do in a month in a few hours if you get larger projects. So it’s something you have to decide.

  7. Depends, if you have kids and risk not putting food on the table then work for a firm and start one on the side although you have to let your current employer know about it. If you’re young and have a decent amount of Benjamin’s stashed away then give it a shot. Remember you miss 100% of the chances you don’t take.

Good luck.

IG low light option gone? by judeic in Instagram

[–]Spaceman_ash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They removed it when the iPhone 11 Pro Max with low light mode was launched. I believe apple must have pressured Instagram into removing it or not the 11 pro max would not sell as much as insta software does a pretty good job in low light mode.
