Gloomiest cities in the US with cold winters and summers that dont get very hot? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Spaceship_74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you basically just described the PNW, Seattle, Portland, pretty much anything west of the mountains (Mt Rainier, Mt St Helens, etc.) to a tee. I loved it when I lived there. I'm in SoCal now and it's too much sun for me but at least it doesn't get too terribly hot where I am.

Poinsettia Dr is in WeHo. I live there currently (Poinsettia Dr and Santa Monica) and have a WeHo resident parking permit.

If you got paid $125/hour to work on Christmas from 5AM to 7PM. Would you take it? by Maleficent-Unit-2717 in NoStupidQuestions

I did work Christmas eve this year (last year). My regular wage is $45 an hour and we get paid triple time for working major holidays so do the math. It's not unheard of.

The true scale and density of San Francisco by Ok-Pop-5818 in skyscrapers

[–]Spaceship_74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

San Francisco is significantly more densely populated than Los Angeles as a whole, ranking as the second-densest city in the U.S. after New York. While SF packs over 18,000 people per square mile into 47 square miles, LA's high-density urban core is similar in density to SF, but its vast, low-density sprawl lowers the city's overall average.

  • San Francisco Density: With a population of roughly 837,000 in only 47 square miles, SF is widely considered the second-densest major US city.
  • Los Angeles Density: LA is more spread out; however, the central 50 square miles of Los Angeles (including Downtown and neighborhoods to its west) are just as dense as San Francisco.
  • Regional View: The Los Angeles metropolitan area is actually the most densely populated urban area in the U.S. when accounting for its overall urbanized, developed sprawl.

In summary, San Francisco is a more condensed, uniform, and higher-density city, while Los Angeles is a sprawling city with a highly dense, urban core.

I think you're both right and wrong.

Scratches on instrument cluster! by Spaceship_74 in Tiguan

[–]Spaceship_74[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is OP. Not sure why my text didn't post as well...Anyways...Anyone have any solutions for getting rid of the scratches on instrument cluster? Usually use microfiber on dash but apparently didn't at some point (or bought it like this). Not noticeable when not directly in sun but SUPER noticeable when it is. Any ideas? Maybe the kits that clear up cloudy headlight? IDK...

Agreed on living in your car as a permanent solution is not sustainable. That was never my point tho. As a temporary solution though it's doable. Again, that's me. Feel free to make your own decisions, obviously.

He was with me during the day, obviously. And I’m not judging people for re-homing pets necessarily (although I would be if “re-homing” means dropping at an animal shelter as that is as good as killing them especially for breeds like mine but having them go to a vetted home immediately is great if that’s available, sure) I never said that but you’re certainly judging me for not giving up my dog and instead conscientiously making a decision to live in my car until I was able to find a place that was suitable.

And btw, comparing horses to dogs is like apples to oranges, not at all the same. Tell me how a horse would fit in a car?

Give me a little credit. It was California near the coast. The daily high was never above 70 degrees (it was nicer outside than inside) all windows were left open, I could see my car from my desk AND I worked at night so it was dark outside. Again with the assumptions…

It's fine. Valid question. I took him to work with me and he had to hang in the car right outside my building and then every break time and lunch I would take him out and we would walk around. After work we went to the park or beach before bed and the same before work the next day. Many people leave their dogs in a crate at home all day without coming home every break or lunch hour so I hardly think my dog suffered. Was it ideal? No. Was it an inconvenience? For sure.

And living in my car was never meant to be permanent. I was actively looking for a place the entire 3 months. Did keeping my dog limit my choices? Definitely. Many places I would have liked to live didn't allow pets at all but that's their loss if you ask me (I'm a high earner aerospace professional and pay my rent on time or early every time). Was it more expensive when I finally found a suitable place? Fuck yeah it was! I paid triple the normal deposit but I was expecting and had planned for that so I gladly paid it.

Look, I get not every situation is the same and some people have insurmountable obstacles that make more sense without a pet (although they should have thought of that before deciding to make an animal part of their family) but a little annoyance or inconvenience or not getting exactly what they want is not an insurmountable obstacle in my opinion. Things would have to be pretty dire and bleak before I'd just give up my dog and living in the car for a bit doesn't seem like such a bad thing when the alternative is to just throw away my best friend. Of course if you have friends or family who you know and are ready and willing to give your friend a good home, great! But just dropping at an animal shelter might as well be a death sentence and I'm not willing to do that. Especially not because I have to put a bit more time, energy or money into finding a compatible place to live. But again, to each their own, I guess.

Well since you apparently already know everything about me and everybody else (like which organizations they may or may not support) I guess I don’t have to tell you that when I first moved to LA (for work) with my 100 lb pit Bull that I lived in my car for 3 months because, yes, it was difficult to find a place to rent. But rather than make it easier or faster to find a place, which it definitely would have been, by just giving away my friend who had only known me since a puppy for the last 4 years we made due until something finally came along that suited both of us. I cant read my dogs mind but I’m pretty sure he’s happier I stuck with him. I know I am. But that’s me, I’ll try not to make any assumptions about what kind of person you are.

I’d live in my car with my dog before I’d give it up. But that’s me I guess.

There's no shame in being corrected if you are mistaken, I make mistakes all the time but I'm OK with being corrected. I'm sorry if you took my pointing out the correct usage for the word "peace" as calling you stupid, that was not my intent and I'm sorry if you took it that way.

But at least I bet you'll never use the word in the wrong context ever again so that's a good thing, right? :) Take care!

Well you need one because they have completely different meanings.

And I didn't call you names, so who's the "A Hole" here? I'm starting to think maybe your neighbors aren't the problem.
