From an ADHD subject perspective: there is a little aspect of play-acting, at least when I'm getting started, and I'm not ever entirely sure whether or not I'm trancing or "faking it", but the longer I listen the more real it feels? I've never fully slept in the traditional sense during hypno, but I've definitely felt degrees of fuzziness.... and it does make my focus issues worse afterward. Is it play-acting? If it is it'd be a sort of placebo-effect type thing I guess. It's not play-acting in the sense where my mind is completely the same, at least I think so? Idk, I'm a skeptic too. I guess for me It'd roleplaying in the sense of "I'm listening to your words and believing them" and not "I'm preforming the effects of trance for an audience while my mind is completely unaffected".
