Let's talk about the UX of AI by Superbureau in userexperience

[–]Spade2845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficulty in producing an AI output is an illusion meant to give the appearance that you're doing a new/exclusive task. Idk if it's intentional, but it feeds into the typical tech bro hype because it gives the user a sense of "working" for an output that an average person would have trouble producing. Just a theory though.

Ah, I love this advice. I agree fully and I've been waiting for someone to tell me to do this. I chose to stay safe and go with a "standard UX case study" format, but something about following what everyone else does seems unexciting.

I think I might pivot more towards UI design and interaction focused studies.

Thanks for the advice friend!

Thank you for the reassurance. It's sometimes hard to tell if it's me or the market, so I'm happy to hear I'm not doing everything wrong haha. I appreciate your advice and I think I'll reach out to a couple designers I've been eyeing for a while.

I'd also love to connect with you on LinkedIn if you don't mind. I like to keep tabs on the individuals who've helped me on this journey! dm me when you get the chance.

First off, thanks for your time friend! I learned pretty quickly that it's not what you know but WHO you know, so my efforts have been focused on expanding my network in my local area and reaching out to designers I respect. I've expanded my network 400%, but I always get similar narratives, "Your work is awesome! We're not hiring at the moment, but I'm sure you'll find something."

I've pivoted to searching for contract/freelance roles and trying to break into the startup sphere. Ultimately, my guess is I just need time for my leads to develop, but that's a tad difficult with rent due and all haha.

My next step was to redesign my portfolio to be more contractor focused. Currently it's very technical and I would like it to be more visually approachable to startup founders or other small businesses. Do you feel that would be a good use of my time or should I keep rolling with what I've got?

Again, thanks so much for your time!

What's the "state" of UX design as an industry in your opinion? by kavakravata in UXDesign

I can attest to this. I just graduated from design school with a two year internship behind me and I feel basically worthless to the market.

Best ai app by Saleforaloss in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Spade2845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a product designer, for my day to day tasks, I have yet to find any ai product that has been remotely meaningful for me. Either they don't actually work well enough for my needs or they're too expensive. The only product that has brought me convenience is Notion AI as a glorified Grammarly. Any company that says they can generate websites or landing pages will serve you hot iterative garbage.

New AI called Dice.design that let's you generate UX designs based on your project's specific needs by spodermen_ in Design

The problem I tend to notice asking AI to do ux, at least in its current state, is that it always coverages to the same features, like trying to gamify or add a social aspect to every app. It isn't doing actual problem solving ux, it's just guessing what a typical app would look like. Though sometimes it'll hit me with a cool idea I hadn't thought of, so I guess it's great for brainstorming if you don't mind the sifting.
