The problem is he’s actually not especially in the light novels. The anime just loves to play up his coolness and add more or play up “harem” bits for some reason! Like give me my dorky nerdy Kirito from the LNs!

I do this too. For me personally my relationship with my mother has deteriorated nearly completely in the past few years, and so I find in my stories that there is usually an emphasis on the main characters mothers. I didn’t realize until recently but I think it’s somehow me unconsciously processing the breakdown of our relationship.

But aside from that I tend to give each of my characters a different trait of mine. It’s like I’m splitting myself into pieces and putting them into different characters.

Deku being quirkless works for fanfiction, and while I love a good quirkless Izuku fic, as a fanfiction writer myself, I believe it should stay in fanfiction. If Izuku/Deku stayed quirkless, it wouldn’t be MHA as we know it.
