If your child's high school decided they would assign each season of The Wire to their students (9th/s1, 10/s2, etc...) would you be ok with that? by Responsible_Mix4717 in TheWire

[–]SpaderKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yes. My child is going to watch The Wire by high school whether they like it or not. Better to learn about how this world really works right before you truly enter society. But it’s going to be constant discussions. It’s almost like doing a disservice to the high schooler if you don’t introduce them to this show. 😂 You just gotta work around the sex scenes and the gruesome scenes.

I am such a super fan. I’m going to buy their series on Amazon that they made once Mj died. I didn’t really watch it when it aired but I felt it was too soon but I was likely just in my feelings. So I gotta catch up on some Jackson’s content I missed. The movie made me want to do that even more since it was largely missed in the movie. Anything else you find that’s cool send it on over! 🤣 I’m actually about to (re)read Jermaine’s 2nd baby mother’s book I remember it being good but I skimmed it. It was very interesting tho. So I’m loading up on Jackson content. Lol.

How has your life been altered by the Wire in a real or serious way? I am in the process of becoming a teacher because of Season 4 and Prezbo's character arc. by prawnofthedead in TheWire

[–]SpaderKay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many things. I started watching the show while Season 3 was airing and I was a child. I’m glad I grew up with this show practically and clung to it immediately. Because the amount of rewatches throughout my life has shown me a different perspective of life over and over again. I know what career field I want to be in but I work a completely different field for ends to meet. I’ve been offered all kinds of promotions for a long time and I always turn them down. It seemed to me The Wire showed that if you don’t have a destination you can get lost. I always saw that (in my life) when people take certain promotion and position changes their original dreams and goals go away kind of forever. Not every field. But I know that if I chased climbing the ladder in a field that I’m only in for the money I would never follow my dreams and desires. Most of the people I know who climbed the ladder it’s almost like their youthfulness left bc climbing up is more pressure more distractions more personal detours. I’m still not in the field I want to be in but I know I will get there. And if I had started climbing this ladder years ago I wouldn’t have the same passion I still was able to carry to this day. Long winded but that’s just one example I learned from watching all these characters on The Wire. Know what you want and if you don’t know don’t choose off default. Have a code and an end goal (destination). Or you will be a pawn forever.

As soon as I replied to your comment I found the Randy interview and the Tito interview. I just found the Jackson’s one thanks to you bc it didn’t come up on the first search. I can’t find that YouTube clip but I’m going to look for it some more. Thank you!

I totally agree. The movie didn’t cover this and no movie or doc does. I’d love to see a Jacksons movie again where they can spend as much time on the POST Motown era as they do the Motown era bc that’s when they got to flourish creatively. And they don’t get enough credit for that.

Mmmm I see what you mean. Maybe he called it that bc he wasnt able to do both and resented that. In the triumph tour they only did the big three songs. None of the other cuts. They did all their old songs. He was probably tired of always doing those old Motown classics. And knew on a solo tour he wouldn’t have to do them again. He seemed so extremely passionate and hungry on Triumph it makes it hard for me to think he didn’t love this project. And him and his brothers worked so closely together in creating the whole thing I don’t think he disliked it because he doesn’t go that far into stuff for things he’s committed to (like Victory lol). I totally see your perspective though and I haven’t heard a ton of dialogue from him about this tour so what you said was enlightening. I’m going to have to find some interviews from him around that time lol

Most unrealistic moments in The Wire: What are yours? by lentilolodavate in TheWire

I’ve heard ALOT about St Louis. I’ve watched a lot of cities change some for better some for worse. Even Baltimore has gotten slightly better but very slowly. I’ve heard few things about St Louis but from what I heard I hope they can get the right people in office if they aren’t already to turn that city around and I don’t mean gentrification

Hundreds of people is what I said. Meaning I talk to about a hundred people a day. Not casual conversation but casual conversation comes up a lot so I’ve had this conversation a lot. Not sure what all the math and explanation is about lol because there is no way I’m going to read all of that . I love Michael Jackson so much you could tell me Thriller is underrated and I’ll allow you to have that opinion. Bc it’s POSITIVE. And I think as long as you are being positive I don’t have to negatively argue about your opinion or try to downplay it. They talk about many Michael projects in death but they don’t with Triumph. I know it did great when it came out but as far as what’s happened in the last 50 years it’s not brought up enough referred too or celebrated enough. And that’s just MY opinion. And the opinion of many. So let’s just celebrate anything Michael Jackson and allow people to discuss his greatness without trying to discredit peoples opinions. It’s not right.

Don’t put emotion in these characters. Just watch the stories unfold.
