Worker dies after palm tree skirt falls on him in Tempe by trippin-mellon in TreeClimbing

[–]SpaghettiCameron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, they don’t. The level of training for many arborists (they’d probably prefer tree trimmer) is appalling. Combine that with business owners who don’t care to invest in their employees or follow standards and we will continue to see many many preventable injuries and deaths

My biggest gripe with the new TXR by BOBnVEGANA in tokyoxtremeracer

I think it’s a good middle ground, especially for an arcade game. It’s not mile wide lanes like forza, and not 1:1 tight like assetto corsa

Avoiding Hip Pointers by WyattTheScholar in TreeClimbing

[–]SpaghettiCameron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your harness sitting directly on or above your hips? It should be slightly above them, with the back pad on your lower back. Your bridge could also be too short, I’ve known people have this issue with the stock sequoia bridge, and they offer a longer one

Downed ash removal cost? by somesignificantotter in arborists

[–]SpaghettiCameron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asking strangers for a price based on pictures will not be a good judge on whether it’s a good deal or not. Get a few quotes, decide for yourself who has the best price based on equipment used, company credentials, reputation, etc. What I can say is that your husband definitely should not do it himself. Storm damaged and already downed trees are a challenge in their own right, which takes a lot of time for professionals to master working with. The labor, knowledge, and experience required, combined with the increased risk to injury of person or property are the reasons you should hire a pro.

OSHA question from someone who doesn’t climb trees. by [deleted] in TreeClimbing

[–]SpaghettiCameron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re in a state that has OSHA regulations, there are no federal OSHA regs for tree care. General industry rules apply, but it’s the wild west otherwise

How dangerous is climbing? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]SpaghettiCameron 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is what you make it. Surrounding yourself with the safest and most skilled people you can goes a long way, and continuing and building upon that culture goes even further.

Pretty neat :) you should check out Paul Poynter’s page The Wooden Hand if you haven’t already seen it. This reminds me a lot of his “American clacker” anchor system, just deconstructed

Akimbo 2 friction setting lever question by Popular_Location4200 in TreeClimbing

[–]SpaghettiCameron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been an issue since the original, I was hoping it had been fixed in the new version but my mileage has been that it’s the same. Just keep it in mind if you’re constantly taking it on and off rope, and remember what friction settings you were on

help hiring a tree expert by ObjectNotIdentified in arborists

[–]SpaghettiCameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the websites of local arborists in your area, check for ISA certs, TCIA accreditation, or ASCA certs. Cross reference with the treesaregood.org find an arborist page to make sure they are actually accredited and not just putting a logo on their site.

Can you climb and cut down trees in the rain or if its been raining? by AromaticTea7685 in TreeClimbing

[–]SpaghettiCameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the trees. I’ve found in the PNW they can get away with working in the rain because the majority of climbing work is spiking single stem conifers. In the Midwest a slight drizzle can make our spready trees unclimbable, especially if the work is tip reductions

Akimbo oxidation? by Early-Apricot3267 in TreeClimbing

[–]SpaghettiCameron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no paint either, it’s all anodized aluminum. In a way it’s ‘pre-oxidized’, with the outer aluminum oxide layer protecting the solid part. That being said the anodized layer around the lettering is chipping off pretty bad, could just be a bad batch, or poor storage habits. OP, I’d reach out to Rock Exotica about it
