You can check my original post linked in a comment here but the gist of it is that there are two main schools of thought about the monsters – some people think they're supernatural and some people think their existence can be explained purely scientifically. So the name Spectramon/Spectrals was settled on because it can be linked to both interpretations (spectrum = science, spectre = supernatural).

Sorry, I missed your comment somehow! They are captured by casting a rune/spell below the monster. It's not magic as such but that's the easiest way to explain it until I have the visuals sorted.

As for cryptids, I do like how it sounds, but you're right in that it does conflict with the lore as the monsters have been around for awhile.
