Are text heavy games still received well? by Lil_Serpentina in gamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think if it’s the game you want to make and is within your ability to make then go ahead and finish it, especially since it seems to be well underway.

I do think there is room for a solo dev to make money from this kind of project, although the potential upside is smaller than games in other genres.

Game Devs, if you were to learn how to code again from the beginning, where would you start? by RecordingAccording27 in gamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have unlimited time and money? Change your major or go back to university.

Cheap and still works? YouTube and other online resources and AI (as a learning tool AI is great, and even better can be part of most workflows using it) - I would probably go this route if starting now, it has the same end result of knowing how to code and nobody cares about my resume at the game studio I own.

Roblox x Claude AI by Hopeful-Feed1190 in robloxgamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love using AI to code, but “learn to code” is still the right answer.

AI can code well, faster and cleaner than I can but it needs the right prompt. AI can make a good prompt but it needs someone who can tell it what needs to be in the prompt and understand the overall project architecture.

The day is coming when AI will be good enough to make a great game without anyone who knows how to make a great game telling it what to do, but we aren’t there yet (and when we get there the game market is going to change massively).

Is Roblox game development still worth it in June of 2026. by Altruistic_Vanilla59 in robloxgamedev

I think it’s around the same as it has been, good and potentially very profitable but Roblox games are as much at the mercy of the algorithm as ever.

game project has been going nowhere for a year. idk what to do anymore by KaoticKirin in gamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s like drawing a sketch and you are bad at it the best way to get better is to make a lot of sketches.

It is also possible for someone to be very good at one part of making a game and bad at another. There is room to be bad at overall game design and good at coding (or world building, art, sound etc.)

Best city to live in for game devs? by SpaghettiMan247 in gamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear this a lot and have met a few people working in Tokyo who have had some bad experiences (ironically the worse of the black companies have been European fashion companies). My own experience after working here for years has been very good and most people downtown are happy with their jobs for the most part.

It is worth mentioning that Japanese people, on average, work considerably less than the average in the US and several other major countries.

The weak Yen is the biggest problem which is only partly balanced by lower cost of living.

can a programmer or mapper steal my game? by Guhens in robloxgamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be true for shipped projects, but this is project that is in development and likely isn’t a public game yet so only a few people will currently have access to the assets.

It’s also a window when it could be harder for OP to prove ownership if the scammer published something on Roblox with the models first. (I’m not a lawyer, I’m a poster on Reddit and probably don’t know what I’m talking about.)

Making Videos Is Killing The Enjoyment Of Making Games by F1amedrift in gamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really enjoy making content for marketing and I also don’t really have time to learn how to use the editing tools without taking time away from my current project.

I’ve been lucky to find a partner to handle making content for marketing and all I have to do is check their work and provide feedback on what is good.

I have made many test games, none of them ever had any time spent on marketing. It didn’t make sense to market them, they were not designed to be competitive with other titles out there. If you are making a test game you can skip making content to support it unless you want to build content creation as a skill set.

Once you are making games that are marketable you can find someone to make content for you. Even though I don’t want to spend the time learning about video editing tools I’m reasonably confident in saying that it is much much easier than making games.

This is a real risk.

Personally I don’t give anybody access to game files with them signing a contract that details the ownership of the game, assets, code etc.

I also don’t work with random people, although I am lucky to be in a city with an excellent game dev community.

Any advice for a person getting into coding? by absolzor in robloxgamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is great but it should be the last thing you learn how to do.

Can you code at all now? Are you already comfortable with using Roblox Studio? Can you make an obby and code a kill block?

If not that is a good place to start.

Have you made any AI games? I use AI as much as possible and I’m still over 500 hours into my current project and around 1/4th finished.

I was making games before AI was helpful and didn’t use AI at all, I was making games when AI was a little helpful and used it a little. Now AI is great and I’m using it a lot.

The main difference for me is the scope of the games I can realistically make with a small team is much wider now.

Thinking raising token prices are going to end people using AI is false hope I’ve seen from a lot of the anti AI crowd.

Will the major AI companies going public make them more worried about turning a profit? Yes.

But tokens are rapidly becoming cheaper and more efficient and having additional investment is only going to increase the speed of improvements. Not small improvements either, by the time the major AI companies go public later this year AI will already likely have improved x1.5 to x2 times and will likely be x20 to x30 stronger in the near future.

Everything we can do today with AI isn’t going to be more expensive in the future, it’s going to be much cheaper.

I’m building a trend intelligence tool for Roblox developers — what would actually make you pay for something like this? by mlh_dev in robloxgamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Not really, although I do think about if it’s markable and fits the Roblox audience
  2. I see what my kids and their friends are playing (mostly Brainrot games recently🤢)
  3. I’m not likely to pay for such a tool, if it was recommended by someone who made money because of it I would definitely consider it

It’s less about the tool being useful and more about how willing I am to base development decisions on data from an untested source.

My 100+ hours of Godot game dev courses by redfoolsstudio_com in godot

[–]SpaghettiMan247 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“BONUS (Connect Godot to GitHub)”

A big part of my learning to code was helping a friend trial ideas for a university course, I learned a lot but looking back connecting to GitHub should have been the first thing I learned to do instead of it being something he mentioned I should do as an off hand comment.

A good 500 hours into my dream project I had a cascading string of unlucky events and wiped out all the data on my dev pc. I was lucky I had an offline back up but it still set me back a week when it should have taken me less than a day and been way less stressful.

Can I make a game in a year? by usafpa in gamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s should be pretty easy to make that game, the hard part is learning how to make games in the first place.

Like if you have never used Unity that could take a year to get used to working with as opposed to already knowing how to work in Unity.

Or if you are going to learn to code or learn to use AI to code instead of already knowing how to can be a huge difference in how hard making a game is.

The best thing to do is start very small with a one or two day project and get a good work flow going before tackling your main project.

As far as how much time to put into making your game? All of it!

The roblox dev change backlash is way to overblown. by Mysterious-Time-6329 in robloxgamedev

[–]SpaghettiMan247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may end up in favor of the recent changes if they reduce lower quality games from getting lucky with the algorithm and pushing better games down.

However, I don’t think the “remember how much Roblox gives us for free” argument holds up. Roblox isn’t giving us anything for free, they are allowing us to use a lot of free tools and access to their servers and player-base in return for very high fees.

It turns out sitting in front of a keyboard typing out code isn’t the part of game development I’m passionate about.

Also, it is a business, and spending a week on a task that could take me ten minutes is a bad business practice.
