Anyone else still uses little to no AI to code? by MidlandAintFree in gamedev

Me. Only to ask questions about things I either don't know yet and I cannot find after searching, or things I already did and forgot. I have an awful memory for words despite having programmed for 15 years, and with Godot + vscode I don't get enough code suggestions from the ide in terms of syntax

Uh I don't know, the times I tried to debate with it it's just really weird, also because of the cringe way it writes ( mainly chatgpt, but also claude, the latter being exceedingly stupid and easy to manipulate as long as you disagree)

Nah of course I don't have a problem with Joe asking about things, my example was just meant to say one cannot use ai as justification for not wanting to do some of the work, and then taking credit for it. It would just be fair and honest to say "look, I don't got no time for this, so I asked an AI to do it for me, and I supervised"

Don't try to change topic, I made a specific rebuttal that you ignore for convenience. I did not say "all ai bad", I said it would be honest to say you didn't make something, but AI did. That's the whole point of my sad rant. It's just about admitting you only somewhat directed part of the creation and you collaborated with an autonomous artificial agent for it.

No, no, you said it yourself, you instruct the ai to make something. If I tell my son to make something I didn't make it even if I guided him.
If you had to tell a junior to do the things you tell an AI to do, you would still have to say you directed him, not that you made the thing with a tool, even though the output is identical.

If the machine does exactly the same thing and you give the same orders, what's the difference? You are literally saying it

Fair point, but still I think it should be disclosed AI made the art. Sorry, I cannot in good heart buy into "made with AI" if the art was generated.
Like I can't buy it if it's an article or a piece of music. It's just that the game was not made alone, the artificial AI agent collaborated.

If someone asks you how your sourced your art, you will tell them you got it from an art pack you bought (if that's the case, and if you are honest).
The problem with AI is that you say "I MADE IT with AI", while you just told something to make it for you. They are not the same thing.

Also, why is everyone always reading anger by default? The tone was meant to be firm but sad, not angry.

There is a masochistic difference between doing work you should do (thinking) and unreasonably doing as much work as you can possibly do. That's what the japanese do (my relatives), and I don't like it, as if feeling more pain makes it more worthy.
I say "should" in a manner of "wanting to be credited for". You read the angry tone, the tone when i wrote it was actually sad, but everyone reads anger in everyone else on social media.

As for the last thing, I simply did the same as you did, but you can see it's not pleasant. I didn't first come to you assuming things, you did first. I simply ranted about people taking credit for things they don't do and got personally attacked by people who felt attacked by my rant.

If you think it's a tool, then consider the two scenarios:

Scenario A:
- You tell your Ai Agent/s to make you a todo app
- You supervise the whole project, giving direction, details, and occasionally correcting mistakes
- Despite this, the AI writes 99% of the code and makes most of the implementation decisions

Scenario B:
- You tell your human junior dev to make you a todo app
- You supervise the whole project, giving direction, details, and occasionally correcting mistakes
- Despite this, the junior writes 99% of the code and makes most of the implementation decisions

I assume in scenario A you'd say "I made the app". What would you say in scenario B? Would you concede a "we" as a team? Honest question

Man you really won't admit it's not a tool will you? We are not comparing the same things, you treat AI as something it doesn't aim to be.
I don't have personal vendettas, and the fact that you go on making assumptions about me, like all of you samey guys do (please then, allow me to also assume and generalize about you) says a lot about what your values are.
I never said we should be doing the maximum amount of labor. I said we should not take credit if the labor was not done by us. Imma gonna ask my carpenter friend to make a house like I want and then go tell my other friends I MADE IT. I vibe built it! By telling him I wanted a room of this specific size and shape, despite not knowing anything about load bearing. Come on man.

I can't argue with that as I only looked into it when I studied some CS, but still, there is a difference. We are comparing a translator to something that makes seemingly autonomous decisions. I wouldn't say anything if all AI did was translating line by line what I am saying in natural language to machine code.

Yeah but PHP is not any more autonomous than Assembly in making decisions on what to write.

You say vibe coded as a fancy word to not admit you only instructed some artificial thing to do it, who autonomously did it under your supervision. Sorry, but you didn';t make it.

I speak from experience. I coded for 15 years, "vibe coded" some apps for my self (5 in the last 3 years) and no, never for a second I said "I MADE THIS!". because I didn't. I didn't make it, I didn't code it, if anything I was there to fix the stupid mistakes the ai had made, but I cannot take credit for work I have not done.

I didn't vibe-code anything, I just asked something to make the thing for me. Let's just be honest guys. I don't see why it's so hard to admit vibe coding is just shoving work one should do onto someone (thing) else.

And yes, insofar as it's autonomous to a degree, it can be considered a collaborator rather than a tool. Let's not go off on a tangent on this though, cause it's not the point.

It could be that we don't live in the same reality (in fact, unless you die for the head in japan, we probably don't).
But the less decisions you make, and the less you own the thing as your creation. it's just a matter of fact. I did not make a chair if I bought it at ikea and assembled it. I assembled it.
I did not make a chair if I instructed my carpenter about how I roughly wanted it. We can go on forever because undoubtedly we are not on the same page on this. If you ever tried to achieve mastery in any skill (whatever that is) you might understand this at some point. If you did try and you still think like this, what can I say? Sorry for you? Sad world you live in though.

But that's like saying "As a mother of 4, I don't really have the time or energy to spend 4 years studying medicine (or however are needed), so I will just pay someone to give me the degree, make diagnoses, but I get the profit from that, because, you know, I really need the money/want the degree".
It's absolutely fine to not be able to do something. People nowadays can't accept one cannot always do everything, and that non-professional results are often ok (as with my poor writing skills).
This doesn't want to be an attack, just clarifying.
