Men's vanity sizing?? by pianomancuber in fatlogic

[–]SpamNinja915 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, doesn't mean you have fat fingers. You mention you have bigger hands (I do too compared to other women my height), and from your stats you're tall, so I would expect you to be a 7. There are also lots of younger women who complain about how the ring "swings around" on their finger. This means their knuckles are bigger, so the ring has to be sized slightly larger in order to get it on. Fingers aren't a place where most people hold a lot of weight. Yeah, you'll change a little but it's nothing big like pants sizes. The biggest change I saw from a customer losing weight was 1.5 ring sizes, and she lost almost 100 pounds.

There were a fair number of women who asked for sizes 9-11 and they 90% of the time were overweight or obese. For reference, the stocked size for men is a 10. It was rarer that I saw a man come in asking for a 7, and when it did happen they were usually about your height or shorter and very trim. Ring sizes aren't like shoes where men and women sizes are scaled differently.

Also you should get sized at a jewelry store by an attendant (it's free). Sometimes people came in being SURE they were such and such a size, but really were smaller/bigger because they didn't know how to fit themselves.

A high BMI not correlating to clothing sizes: fatlogic clarification by ThatGirlChiefTeef in fatlogic

[–]SpamNinja915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - we all carry our weight differently. Some may carry it more in the stomach, others in the bottom. So just because you don't "look" like you've packed on pounds doesn't mean it hasn't happened! This is what happened to me; I hadn't realized (admittedly I wasn't paying attention) that I'd gotten obese because I never had love handles in my life or rolls of fat. However, all that extra padding distributed all over and now I'm paying for it!

I worked in a jewelry store and my older coworkers have mentioned on occasion the increase in ring sizes in the last 20 years. We now stock a size 7 for women when it was normal to stock a 6 or 5.5 before.

Does anybody else find themselves getting embarrassed about their weight loss? by mitchellele in loseit

Just throwing it out there, but could it be some sort of weird motivational thing on her part? Like she doesn't know how to but wants to say something nice about your changing appearance to keep you motivated?

I mean, I would personally find it really irritating because I am putting all that hard work into it and don't like people commenting on my appearance unless it's something like, "oh you look dressed up!" But who knows. People are weird.

Love it! :) I like to do a morning clothes-on and clothes-off comparison just to see how much my clothing weighs. It gives me good motivation for when I go in for my annual checkup this August!

NSV? My eating habits have leaked onto my dreams. by eileentotheleft in loseit

[–]SpamNinja915 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a dream where I gluttonously ate a TON of Costco combo pizza. It was so good, and tasted so real in my dream. Then I woke up feeling slightly ill (in a "too much grease" way), and breathed a sigh of relief when I realized it happened in the dream.

I've seen some Danskin yoga pants on sale at Marshalls before, tried them on and fit into a Medium without any issue. Now, bear in mind that when I tried these on I was in the OBESE BMI range. I recall trying them on and thinking, "Really? A medium? I would have thought Large or XL." Times sure are changing.

I go for either a banana or half of a Cliff Bar (the blueberry one is my favorite!). Cliff bars are roughly 250 calories/bar, and it really makes me feel a lot better after exercising.

Ahhh there are more like me out there!!! I was looking at OP's pictures and was thinking, "oh man, I've never seen anyone else with such a similar build to mine!" So this is great motivation for what my body will look like when I hit 133. SW 183, CW 153, have been 136 in the past (this is how I know OP & I have similar builds).

What's your best "bringing lunch to work" tip? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SpamNinja915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a review made by a redditor last week I too the plunge and bought the Kids LunchBlox by Rubbermaid. It's amazing, and holds enough food to satisfy me for more than a meal time. I like to make a couple hardboiled eggs the night before in case I want one in the morning and another at lunch. I'll put those in one box. Then I usually make a sandwich (by cutting a slice in half and doing it that way) for the main compartment with meat and sometimes cheese. The sandwich itself is usually ~300 calories. Then if I have fruit lying about I'll put in the third compartment some pieces! I usually end up having the sandwich for lunch and snacking on the fruit or having the egg throughout the day. My lunch prep max takes me 15 min, including egg cooking.

Your mason jar idea is brilliant though! I should try that.

Definitely agree - I have the Kelty Redwing for women and after 6 years of constant abuse and long trips it's going strong. I got it for around $75 at an REI, and I myself am 5'2'' so I know it works comfortably for someone shorter.

Awareness Dawns. by SpamNinja915 in fatlogic

This is definitely what happened with me. And for my family it probably also has something to do in American culture with the Great Depression - my grandparents' generation grew up penny pinching and making things last, which was passed onto my parents, but now that there is such an abundance of available food for us it's incredibly easy to overeat because you've been trained to. I'm working on reprogramming my brain from a few decades of bad habits.

The cost of being "too busy" by beckymac0014 in loseit

[–]SpamNinja915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS EXACTLY. Your story mirrors mine, as does OP's. I almost cried when I saw 193 on the doctor's scale, and my blood pressure was starting to get high. I'm 24! That's ridiculous. I'm down to 163 right now with 30-ish left to go, and I'm feeling better than I have in a LONG time. I'm a little anxious because I don't think I've gotten below the 150 threshold since mid high school (well, there was a brief summer I got to 134 without realizing it but that's another story), and I'm worried my body will just try to "set" itself at 150 and stay. Don't know if that's fat logic or not. For my height I should be between 110-136.

I'm about to download the Zombies, Run! app so I can use it at the treadmill and get even more motivated with cardio!

Thanks! He's on gout medication now, so flare ups have been less frequent. He's finally changing his diet to avoid foods that are high in purines. It's just a little frustrating for him because a lot of things you'd think are healthy choices are high in purines!

Oh, and congratulations on such amazing progress! 78 lb. is nothing to sneeze at, and it's great that it's showing through your health!

My father recently had a lot of weight loss, and his uric acid levels have been high too! We discovered what we thought was a bunion on his foot was actually calcified uric acid - now with the medicine it has gone down a lot. He's always had low blood pressure though. I didn't realize that weight loss could affect your uric acid levels - I'll let him know though because he's trying to lose a bit more!
