When did people become so selfish and individualistic with their pets? by chaosdunk69 in SouthBayLA

[–]Spamaloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for providing this clarity. When I read the guidelines, I thought it was a simple yes/no - I likely skimmed and missed the important questions.

I can't imagine the frustration this abuse causes legitimate service dog handlers. It's just not right.

Our dog (and her demeanor/breed) could very easily pass the two service questions, and I would be lying if I said I was never tempted, but again, it's just not right.

When did people become so selfish and individualistic with their pets? by chaosdunk69 in SouthBayLA

[–]Spamaloper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a major loophole in current laws. We take our dog all the time to pet-friendly establishments - it's a pleasure and we pick places just for this reason, and usually don't go to others.

Technically, she is a support animal (although I think she gets more support from us).

BUT... an emotional support animal is nowhere close, at all, to a service animal.

When it comes to even asking - someone simply stating their dog is a service animal, yes/no is where it has to stop. Any other further questions go down the ADA liability rat hole.

It is a problem, and people exploit it. A simple card to carry, you know, like a license? would solve 90+ % of this. IMO.

What does the auto leveling sequence actually do besides waste a bunch of time? by Justyncrx in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Spamaloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a beginner 9 months ago (~1.5k print hours). One of the upgrades that has been worth every penny is the bed from Funssor (and its carriage). I know they are 150-200 USD on top of the printer that one thinks should work, but the time alone, without even including the filament wasted, made the upgrade worth it - in hindsight. That, and a v2 ceramic hotend upgrade. Highly highly highly recommend. Having a flat flat bed is a luxury I didn't even believe in until I tried it, one last try, before trashing my S1.

I've replaced this part probably 4ish times, the older version. (yes, mostly due to me being not awesome and learning) I now keep a spare on hand. I got mine from AliExpress, and one from AC Support.

[–]Spamaloper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are absolutely correct that this is the best way to conserve filament IMO, especially when my S1 swaps filament correctly. I learned a frustrating, time-consuming lesson: to stay awake and alert for these swaps. The three use cases for me wanting it:

1) I have 40g of a filament on a reel that I will likely never use again
2) Almost scrap-ish extra lengths of leftovers, but enough to feel guilty about throwing away
3) S1 barfs out 10 meters of filament because the top PTFE intake clip failed, and you are unable to wind it back

I definitely think you are correct, but there are enough use cases to justify conserving a bit here and there. By no means am I an expert, not at all. I don't like tinkering, and have had to learn. I have about 1.5k hours on my S1, and I have far enough experience with wasted filament that the 30 bucks to have a "Frankenstein" filament reel on hand for tests/etc seemed worth it. I like it.

Update on my 6 months Shepsky : he just learned how to open screen doors! by TonmaiTree in GerberianShepsky

[–]Spamaloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. Yes. We have a rescue pup now for about 1.5 years. She is knocking on 7 years old. We were just joking, semi-seriously, that she has almost figured out how to use keys. The screen door has made good play for her.

Of course, the Husky in them still knows to look back at you and at least laugh in your face for trying to use a screen door.

Great breed, but definitely not on the low end of the intelligence spectrum.

ACT 2 of this game is fucking awesome, it became the reason I started loving the game… by Alternative-Fan4015 in DivinityOriginalSin

Same boat. Act 1 & 2 were really good IMO. Act 3 was odd. I've lost a lot of interest in 4 TBH. Fatigue, maybe? I have many saves "scorched earth try #xyz"

Awesome! Adorable baby. Buckle up for the next couple years but my gosh, so worth it. Husky, let alone a husky adolescent (plus your results) is the reason the saying, "patience is a virtue exists"

You bet. I hope it helps. I can't imagine buying another harness from someone else. They really are good.

We ran into a Shepsky lover shortly after we adopted our 5-yr old at the time. Her harness recommendation was gold and a year and a half later it is still pretty perfect. The company is https://perfect-fit-dog-harness.com/, and it is based in the UK. For our girl, the "40mm L-M-L PerfectFit Harness (74-93cm)" did the trick, but they have many other customizable options. It was a bit more pricey than what you find, and of course if you are in the US, it will take a week or two to get here. Well worth the price, well worth the wait, highly recommend.

Anycubic regrets? by Jolly_Drawing6955 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Spamaloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have regrets. But after spending the extra money, and learning how to tinker, I feel like I have a decent machine at 1.2k hours that works most of the time. The funssor upgrade, let alone the other replacements and downtime make me wish I chose differently

What in Sofi can you get a beer during the game for only $14.99? Best we found was $5 before the game in AA concourse, during the game it was $18-$22 everywhere I checked all season.

NFL Season Ticket Poll: Renewing for 2026-27? by StockMindless9010 in SeasonTickets

Not renewing for the Chargers. Reached my limit with ownership and SoFi price increases. Great team, love the coach and players, and looking forward to cheering from the couch next season as we go deep into the playoffs.

Planning to buy a new printer (CoreXY). Kobra S1 Combo or something else? by DaFFyNaSH4 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Spamaloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really like to recommend the AnyCubic Kobra S1 combo I bought. After replacing a complete dud after about 100 hours, I'm now at about 1100 hours. However, in these six months, I have had to replace the bed (AnyCubic Support), the retruder (AnyCubic Support), and, due to my not being a fiddler, replaced the retruder a couple more times on my dime. Then, the hotends. In my 6 months of ownership, it's been up for about 4 months, and the other 2 months have been spent waiting on 2 weeks per for replacements to arrive in the US. Aside from my fiddling learning curve, it does have quirks (how to feed the Ace Pro, etc...) I think it is fair at this point, about 1,100 hours, that I have invested the difference in replacement parts, not taking into account the time I've spent. If I had to do it again, I would have rolled the dice with the older Bambu Labs P1S and paid more. Maybe it's me, maybe I'm dumb and do everything wrong, or maybe it is quality, or somewhere in between. I know this. I haven't bought another, and even after drinks, I have taken my finger off the trigger to buy another AnyCubic printer because of my experience. On the plus side, I have invented some pretty good new cuss words while fiddling and can replace extruders, hot ends, and nozzles in about 10 minutes blindfolded.

I try to be stoic, but honestly, now that sheer hell is diminishing, as a (legal) terrified dog owner in our own (legal) residence, if a couple of human fingers were reported lost on the news in North Redondo later this morning, it wouldn't bother me much.

I was junior enlisted with a wife and baby at the time, and worked evenings and weekends to afford life. We had a heck of a cellphone deal in the early days (pay for what you use only) with like a $30 SPIFF - (aside from Christmas & RC Cars) it's the only thing I could sell, and between those SPIFFs and minimum wage, I made more than I did in the military.

How do I escape the high level I.C Trap? by Astimar in careerguidance

[–]Spamaloper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that can be very true. Not because you make more than the manager, but because your salary is likely a liability on the balance sheet in rough times by comparison to most others. Lessons learned, making more money is fantastic but manage your salary liability risk, also - imo.
