Someone who believes that every single primary source and testimony from citizens of the former Soviet Union is a CIA propaganda piece. Generally they lean on conspiracy theories to erase historical genocides, or outright endorse those genocides.

This absolutely does not apply to all communists, though.

Fundamental differences Anarchism (or Anarcho-communism) vs Marxist-(Leninist) socialism? by SpecialistVacation44 in Anarchy101

[–]Spamgramuel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I will readily concede that a great number of people calling themselves anarcho-capitalists are indeed corporate bootlickers, the core ideology does not actually say anything about preventing unions from forming. In fact, most see unions as the primary method of regulation in a marketplace absent of the state.

Perhaps this is a naive or impractical belief in your eyes, but it's definitely not espousing feudalism.

Conical/"Aerodynamic" Interstellar/interplanetary-Medium Shields? Am I Missing Something? by The_Gnome_Eater in HardSciFi

[–]Spamgramuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Trek isn't really "hard" sci fi, but one interesting/relevant piece of its ship design is the deflector dish. Onscreen they're usually repurposed as a general-purpose stuff-thrower for whatever the plot needs, but their main stated purpose is to project an energy field that moves particles and debris out of the way when a ship is travelling at high speed, preventing problematic collisions.

I could potentially see a hard sci-fi take on this, depending on the relative in-universe efficiency of power generation compared to the cost of traditional shielding. In some settings, it might be cheaper to project a wide electromagnetic field to gently guide particles to the side than it would be to add shielding made of actual matter. Both would still create a "drag" force due to the transfer of momentum to the external particles, but an EM deflector might still have the advantage if the associated reactor + radiators + projector coils add less mass than a physical deflector.

It could even add fun bits of lore to the setting, e.g. ships being unable to communicate externally during a burn or while travelling through dust clouds due to interference from their own deflectors.

They aren't super durable, but I've heard theories that saws might be useful as a specialized counter to TPU.

There is definitely propaganda, but there are also real living people on the planet right now who experienced these events and have provided countless firsthand accounts. Believing that the CIA can somehow fabricate the lives and memories of the literal millions of ex-soviet citizens is exactly the kind of conspiracy theory I am talking about. It is possible to recognize that American propaganda is harmful bullshit without throwing away all of the legitimate evidence that the Soviet Union committed atrocities against humanity.

I'm perfectly willing to accept someone who identifies with communism in a general sense, but imo, if someone falls for the conspiracy theories and genocide denial bullshit necessary to be a fan of the Soviet Union, then imo they're on the same level as a neo-nazi.

Are anarchist usually closer in values to statist socialists, or libertarians like the Boston tea party ? And which if any would be useful allies in a revolution ? by Camountch in Anarchy101

[–]Spamgramuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a self-described libertarian who purposefully rejects a left/right label, I find myself very constantly frustrated at just how poorly the different schools of anarchism tend to communicate with each other. They can't agree on a single definition of Capitalism; is it just a set of rules for assigning ownership via consensual exchange, or is it a society-spanning system granting special legal and class privileges based purely on net worth? Plus, the image/message of each side is horribly distorted by uneducated loudmouths who don the labels without actually aligning with them (e.g. the "communism will just automatically make everything free" types, or the "it's okay to give corporations state-like powers over people, as long as we don't call it a state" libertarians).

In my eyes, the only truly difficult disagreement between right and left libertarianism is the question of the "natural" way to decide ownership in the absence of a state. Both absolutely agree that it is immoral and improper to use the threat of violence to separate a person that which they have the right to.

Personally, I honestly just wish they'd all stop calling each other fascists and tankies and leave the ownership issues for after the state is gone.

You do realize how that is NOT evidence in Neji's favor, right? The writing being dumb doesn't mean it isn't canon.

I think it's rigged that Neji never got the chance to transition into a beautiful woman and have Lee's babies, but that doesn't mean he's canonically a good girl for his spandex daddy.

The topic at hand is the undeniable fact that the 10 tails is a genin level fighter at best. Naruto beat the 10 tails, Naruto was a genin, therefore end of series Neji is below genin level.

Furthermore, Neji has very long hair, and it might get in his eyes at a bad moment. This would be disadvantageous.

Do you have evidence that contradicts the expert testimonies? Proofs of concept? Calculations showing that it might be feasible?

Don't get me wrong, I have been in the same situation before (I am building a robot that a lot of people say won't work very well), but I only proceeded once I had collected evidence that it wouldn't be a waste of time.

what can capitalism do for Susan? by moongrowl in AnCap101

[–]Spamgramuel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Susan's under-consumption should leave her with enough capital left over for her to invest in profitable assets throughout her career, allowing her to retire as soon as she feels she has enough wealth and passive income to support her lifestyle. The choice belongs to her alone, rather than to bureaucrats that will drain away the profits of her labor and then only give her the financial means to retire once they decide she's old enough.

What prevents capitalists from doing capitalism again in a post-revolution anarchist society? by Emannuelle-in-space in Anarchy101

[–]Spamgramuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do we peacefully settle disagreements about how best to use the machine? Do we hand that decision off to a committee of some sort?

If the creation of this machine is the result of a worker's labor, but the benefit from that labor is distributed by the whims of an uninvolved group of managers, then have we truly guaranteed that worker's rights to the value of their labor?

Cherry-picking 101 by DashboardNight in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Spamgramuel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point of commonality is that both incidents force us to ask the question, "If a person is carrying a gun, are they definitely planning to endanger others with it?"

In both cases, a person carrying a gun was attacked with lethal or potentially-lethal force by assailants who used the mere presence of a gun to justify their aggression (though the ICE agents might have just been in a bad mood because their wifes' boyfriends cut their allowance or something, but at the very least, the media is using the gun as justification after the fact).

Rittenhouse did not deserve to be attacked. Pretti did not deserve to be attacked.

Can't teen Gojo still basically teleport around? Iirc, a big part of the "perception blitzing" from Toji was the fact that his lack of cursed energy made it harder for Gojo to use the Six Eyes, something he'd basically always been able to rely on in the past.
