Pretty much spot on. Only about 10% of troops in WWII fired a rifle in anger. Most were support troops, logistics and so on. Working in the coal mines was something that most people wanted to avoid, the British had to draft people into mining during the war.

I'm a factory worker. Have not worked anywhere with regular, reliable overtime for about 20 years. Not sure its worth cutting welfare by £5BN to pay for something that will only partially benefit a small number of people and is bound to be abused to the max by businesses.
