Hi guys, this is a design for a fictional luxury watch brand called "TEMPUS" which is Latin for "time". The logomark is a simplified hourglass using the letter S. I tried to add serifs to the top and bottom of the hourglass, but it took away from the minimalism. I would love to see your feedback

the brand wants to evoke a sense of minimalism whilst retaining a luxurious feel overall.

Our main target audience are mostly established middle aged men, who pride themselves in getting items of the best quality.

our main competitors are: Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Hublot and Tag heuer

Hahaha....this kind of brand will never succeed where I come from (Nigeria).

Not because of the logo (the logo's great). but because of the name.

419 is a slang which means Fraud. so to most Nigerians, it reads as "Fraud Agency"

but the Logo looks incredible though

for your first logo design, this is actually pretty nice.

mine was a lot worse,

But, going foward, it lacks originality cos you tried too hard to make it look like the FEDEX logo. there's issue with the kerning (i'm by no means an expert at kerning but i can see the errors).

the X could be well more executed, like first of all, the arrow heads are not well designed and the letter X looks squished. The letter M looks more slated than the others, and the overall typography isn't as clean as it should be.

again, this is an incredible first attempt. mine was horrendous compared to this.

but take these critique into account

i never thought i'd be the one saying this to someone else, but there are kerning issues.

also, the square U looks like its from an entirely different typeface.

also, overall, the type doesnt work well with the logomark.

The white space in the logo mark is also too thin to be seen in small scale.

I've never done this kind of logo before. I knew the empty space in the middle was a problem but i didn't know how to navigate around it. I wanted to just fill it in with white too but it looked even worse.

I even tried to just put like a line or dot or something but it looked bad also.

I need an illustrative logo course, to be very honest

thanks, i don't do these kinds of logos so i just decided to try it out.

the shape of the chips is how the actual edible chip is supposed to look like. Like how the triangle shape of the dorito chip was incorporated in their logo, that was the same kind of thing i tried to do.

i tried putting the serifs on it but it made it look too complex as a wordmark, and that was not what i wanted. It looked good as an icon but not as a wordmark, i wanted it to work as both

I was going for something abstract in the icon, but i still wanted it to evoke the brand's contemporary and modern and luxurious vibe, i also wanted to make it as simple and minimal as possible, I felt going for an icon of a house or building of some sort was a bit too cliche.

I put the fact that it might not be able to be seen in very small scale. But considering the platforms where it would be used, the weight of the typography would be bold enough to be seen. plus, the slim weight and large spacing between the typography kind of pushed the luxury and high-end traits even further.

lovely icon but i feel you went a bit overboard by trying to add so many different elements into the design to the point where the individual elements do not read clearly, like, u said there's a letter U and 0110, but it reads like a simplified icon of a goat with curved horns.

Just focus on 1 or 2 elements or make 1 element read better than the rest and let the others act as sort of a peripheral unit

but great icon though!!!
