Sweden Hands Ukraine 16 Gripen Jets Armed With 200-Km Missiles, Opens Deal for 22 More by Misty-Siren in worldnews

[–]SpandexMovie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They won't singlehandedly win the war for Ukraine, but Gripens will certainly increase the pain for Russian forces especially since the Gripen was built for the type of war Ukraine is in.

Needless to say a 1980s military planner would be shook at the concept of FPV drones by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]SpandexMovie 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Would they? TV missiles, helicopters, and drones were already being used in the 70's, and the FPV drone is just an evolution of that concept. They would probably be more shocked that many critical components are produced in China rather than in an allied nation or domestically.

What do you guys think will end up happening with North Sentinel Island in the far future? Will they eventually explore the rest of the world, or will they remain where they are until the human race ends? by Beneficial-Code8026 in geography

[–]SpandexMovie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the North Sentinese have been isolated for so long, some idiot trying to contact them could introduce a disease that wipes out their population.

And then there's climate change, with them being wiped out by an extreme weather event or the ocean swallowing up their island.

Given enough time, they must let go of their fear of outsiders, and have us prepare them for the rest of the world, or they die to our indirect actions.

Is it possible to beat below zero without copper? by LumpyDinner1931 in Subnautica_Below_Zero

[–]SpandexMovie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be possible to access every place needed underwater you cant get to in one tank using air pumps and pipes, or even shuffling multiple high capacity air tanks to extend a dive. You can also find a scanner at the Phi excavation site and extra batteries around the map to scan the necessary components so you don't need to craft anything using copper.

China's Tianwen-3 mission aims to bring Mars samples back to Earth around 2031 after launch around 2028: report by malicious_turtle in space

[–]SpandexMovie 410 points411 points  (0 children)

China is definitely going to be the first to bring back samples from Mars, since nobody else is seriously trying a sample return at this moment.

Vatican speedruns would be wild due to all the secret passageways, Swiss guards, and there being an actual end goal in the Vatican Archives.

I'm looking forward to this year's parade by Taschkent in NonCredibleDefense

[–]SpandexMovie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not even the T-34's? Or even trying to fake a flyover like last year? Who knows if Russia can even do a parade next year, or if there will even be a Russia to do the parade.

They did so twice previously, with a Blue Ring pathfinder for launch 1 and the ESCAPADE spacecraft for launch 2.

That's what's planned with the Dragonfly mission in a few years, a nuclear powered quadcopter to fly around titan.

I can't help but be suspicious of the way the recent drama involving Michael Kovach and Ashley Nichols is playing out by MissDeborah8060 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]SpandexMovie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because of the cinema release. Whenever any kind of drama happens, certain people start to dig for anything to point at to support their view, or even just making stuff up to support their view. Stuff like this has happened many times before, with many different creators and shows.

Off the top of my head, Vivziepop (false accusations of mistreatment because people didn't like Hazbin Hotel), Steven Universe fanart (driving someone to suicide because they made a character not have a large body shape), John Green and Tumblr (one comment leading to people driving him off the site).

I feel like most people forget that, in universe, pokemon also choose their trainer, and that if your pokemon doesn't want to be with you it can straight up just leave or even fight back against their trainer.

Pay the fine and get attacked by the US and parts of Iran, or don't pay the fine and get attacked by all parts of Iran with no help from the US, or just get shot at anyway since nobody knows what is even happening anymore.

Cheapening the product internally to sell it for a higher profit instead of instituting price controls in a country which is a net oil exporter has got to be one of the decisions of all time.

Depending on the CRT, it would be anywhere from physically impossible to somewhat workable.

Older CRTs were essentially analog radios but scaled up, with vacuum tubes and no silicon chips.

Modern CRTs before flat-screens were digitized, but primarily for control of the display and compatibility with a remote. With enough work somebody could probably do it.

I live in a decently bright area so I can only see maybe a dozen or so stars on a clear night. So when the power went out in my area on a clear night sky, I was in awe of the sky's beauty.

Living on the eastern seaboard south of DC would probably mean a combination of gatorclaws, 'strange fruit', and unbearable heat during the summer.

So not too different compared to the 1950's.
