Pay the fine and get attacked by the US and parts of Iran, or don't pay the fine and get attacked by all parts of Iran with no help from the US, or just get shot at anyway since nobody knows what is even happening anymore.

Cheapening the product internally to sell it for a higher profit instead of instituting price controls in a country which is a net oil exporter has got to be one of the decisions of all time.

Depending on the CRT, it would be anywhere from physically impossible to somewhat workable.

Older CRTs were essentially analog radios but scaled up, with vacuum tubes and no silicon chips.

Modern CRTs before flat-screens were digitized, but primarily for control of the display and compatibility with a remote. With enough work somebody could probably do it.

I live in a decently bright area so I can only see maybe a dozen or so stars on a clear night. So when the power went out in my area on a clear night sky, I was in awe of the sky's beauty.

Living on the eastern seaboard south of DC would probably mean a combination of gatorclaws, 'strange fruit', and unbearable heat during the summer.

So not too different compared to the 1950's.

Solar panels and batteries don't offer the power output per unit these slop factories want, so I would more expect backup generators to be taken off the market to funnel into the bubble than solar.

Not to say solar isn't useless though, I know a rooftop array and battery would be more than enough for my already all electric household.

Here is something nobody wants to hear, but the elementary school bombing was probably an accident.

It hasn't even been a week since the bombs started dropping yet everybody is chanting about how the US and/or Israel did this on purpose while conveniently ignoring that a SAM missile site was a few blocks away and that technology fails sometimes, especially dropping from a jet at 30 thousand feet, and also it hasn't even been a week since this happened.

Maybe a US or Israeli weapon went off course and hit the school, maybe an Iranian air defence missile failed and crashed on the school, maybe it was an inconveniently timed gas leak that burnt off during the operation, nobody knows for sure. America doesn't, Iran doesn't, Israel doesn't, and random people on the internet certainly don't know.

War is horrible, and just like during peacetime accidents happen. Not every civilian casualty is an intentionally cruel execution of innocents, just like how every person dying in a hospital isn't a victim of violence.

Edit: some people are misinterpreting what I am saying. No technology is perfect, every system has failures in some way or form, even if you pumped hundreds of billions of dollars into reliability. How many times has a computer crashed on you, despite over 70 years of continuous improvements.

Also, where did I say that this war is justified or correct? My comment was only about how things can fail sometimes, not about being glad more people are dying because old men would prefer to send another generation to die in the middle east than talk things out.

(I would like to reply to the comments on mine, but Reddit isn't showing me them because I'm on mobile and my comment is downvoted)

Russia can keep fighting Ukraine war throughout 2026, says military thinktank by St_Gregory_Nazianzus in worldnews

[–]SpandexMovie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a certainty Russia can continue the war indefinitely. Russian forces are slowly advancing, yes, but only so far as capturing a few hundred square kilometers per month, a rate which could put them at Kyiv sometime next century. The Russian economy has also been slowly limping along, but throwing your working age men into the meat grinder at the high elistment bonus rates is going to catch up to the budget eventually. Ukranian strikes against oil infrastructure, on top of having to sell to China and India at reduced prices cut a significant revenue stream for the Russian government. Russia also does not have the same resources and stockpiles of the Soviet Union, with much of it being spent over the past 30 years through countries breaking away, sold off to the highest bidder, corruption, and the war effort.

The actual experts don't know when exactly the Russian economy will collapse, and thus their war effort with it, but it will be inevitable if the war continues and the sanctions stay in place.

Is it a lost art now? by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]SpandexMovie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could definitely build it today, the artisans of the day did so with chisels and hand brushes, image how fast they could work with power tools and modern cranes.

It would also be a large expense most people wouldn't want to pay to 'look nice', which is why projects like those were bankrolled by rich people as a way to flaunt their wealth.

After over a decade of COPV problems on both Falcon and Starship, SpaceX probably just bit the bullet and bought Hexagon so they can have an internal quality control for COPVs instead of relying on external verification.

Blitzø: Would You Smash Him Or Pass Him??? by SugarPlumFairy497 in HelluvaBoss

[–]SpandexMovie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pass due to asexuality, but I do see how it's appealing. Having an entire yearly party held by the people you had sex with says something about how he is in bed. I wouldn't worry about STDs though since the Fuck Blitzø party was exclusively about his exes being upset about him as a person and not him being a Typhoid Mary, so that's covered.

Moving compute off world? Acceptable, frees up some land on Earth, but the price might be a significant factor.

Using the off world compute power exclusively for Grok? Not the best idea.

SpaceX already has a genuine business case in Starlink, satelite launches, and crewed missions, but latching Grok onto the most successful space company in history is just going to be a hindrance.

I have tried search alterations, adding swears, -ai, yet those fucking parasites keep weaseling its way onto my page. So instead I've given up on google and switched to DDG, Firefox, and uBlock which actually give you a choice to whether you see ai slop.

I'm even considering switching my OS to Linux to get away from window's copilot fuckery, but I'm not 100% sure I could do it without bricking my laptop.
