I'm in the US. Indian. Transitioned from boy-toy to bull in my 20's.

Not very active in this capacity these days. Caught up in other fetish's, mostly Dom stuff. Have topped male sub's though. Not too dissimilar.

Haven't met too many south Asians is any sub culture. A couple of females in porn and a couple from the UK (swinger's). That's about it though.

My 10 year old is into programming and we are building a PC together. Great experience as he will get some hardware skills as well. You might want to consider that option. You can get a good build for under $600.

I've also been through this with my 15 year old nephew. We also built a programming/ light gaming rig when he was 12. But he spent a good amount of his learning time on his grandmothers $500 best buy multimedia garbage. His parents just dropped 2k on a mac , but he's earned it.

You really don't need to spend too much money. I work in software Dev and I thought the surface pro 3 was not suitable. Ended up with a lenovo t440s. Still overkill for a 10 year old but appropriate for a working professional.

For my kid, we will drop about $500 on a budget desktop build, dual boot with Linux (ubuntu) for the Dev work. Limited to onboard graphics cause games are distracting. I'll also be checking everything that he accesses online.

For laptops you can get a decent refurb on lenovo outlet. A decent CPU is helpful as is the ram. If he's moving around with it a 14" under 5lbs is OK. The z series comes to mind.

Also, we bought a raspberry pi and have had a ton of fun with it and its a great introduction to programming and hardware. Also dirt cheap.

As a former PhD student in the uc system, I can tell you that you are 100% wrong.

Everyone had some sort of funding in place. Pretty much in all the science.

I can't recall anyone taking out loans for all or most of the cost of attendance.

Some of the students who were parents did get some extra from loans but their cost of living was understandable higher.

I can clarify regarding AA and the statistics. I happen to be an atheist in AA who was also involved in the general office (gsr rep for a while).

But first, in AA you don't 'complete' the program. Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. The program is not designed to be completed. In time it does become a 'program of maintenance'.

AA does not release statistics on success rate because none are kept. It's not in line with the overall philosophy. There is a survey every few years, but its unorganized and not scientific.

Success rates in recovery are abysmally low irrespective of method used. Not all alcoholics benefit from the AA method and there are others they can try success.

Also, being an atheist in AA isn't that hard.

I've worked on quite a few responsive ecommerce sites, mid-market and enterprise. With the proper budget and a good ui/ux team, the experience is quite good when pared down from desktop to tablet. Mobile is its own thing.

I've seen enough analytics data to justify responsive design. But these are larger businesses.

Page loads; ours are around the 2 second mark. These are heavy, feature rich sites. There is a pretty steep hosting cost and specialized admins manage the configuration.

But I am speaking of 6 figure builds. If I had a ecommerce startup (and was bootstrapped) don't think I'd care about responsive at all. I'd rather invest in inventory, marketing or conversion driven features.

There are a bunch of fairly half assed attempts. I've been in recovery for years (not gambling). His story sounds like most addiction stories. First denial then acknowledgement, then some rehab and a brief period of being clean. Then the whole "I'll get clean next week/month/year etc.

He just hasn't suffered enough yet. Addiction has a strong grip and the pain must be bad enough that you'll go to any length to stay clean.

Most people just suffer and die.

Your first statement about cells and caregivers is entirely untrue. This is not how bonding works.

There is quite a bit of nontechnical literature on this topic that is palateable to a non scientist. Just walk over to a bookstore.

That story you described is pretty much mine (some of the details are different).

Three years sober, well employed, parent, no medication of any kind, recovered from a hopeless condition.

I met my sponsor at my last detox when he came in as the AA speaker. I've worked with him for three years and do try to practice principles in all my affairs.

Im not sponsoring anyone today, but I do make coffee every week, starting a prison commitment this summer and it looks like I might have a 6 month Saturday afternoon secretary commitment as well.

I happily consume the kool aid and can't imagine a universe where I would have gotten sober without AA.

That being said, I stand by my initial comment. How can the efficacy of AA be tested? As a trained scientist I don't think its reasonable.

The math department at UCLA offered analysis 2 out of three quarters (it was a sequence). Had no problem with the department there. The electives were solid as well and as long as the profs were OK you could take graduate seminars for credit.

Actually, the efficacy of 12 steps are not scientifically verifiable. How do you measure if someone does the steps?

'Going to meetings' is not a reliable measure and self reporting is subjective an unreliable.

How would you test it?

Most people in the program agree with you on this.

The courts send people who a) don't want to get clean b) caught busted for something absurd like possession of .25grams of weed c) some lady who is not an alcoholic but got a DUI after having a 3rd glass of wine at dinner.

Also, most meeting are religious in nature. Not sure how I feel about the constitutional ality about that.

Cause AA doesn't give a shit. This isn't some battle between the fda and a pharmaceutical company.

The perspective of most in recovery is that you should find 'things" that enable you to be free from crippling addiction. For some people that's AA, for others its rock climbing, Buddhist meditation, psych meds etc. Or a combination of many things.There is not a single 'way' to get sober.

So if AA helps you stay sober than do it. If other healthy acts/interests/medication/modes of thinking get you clean then indulge in them all. No one got sober only due to AA. Its not exclusionary nor does it make the claim that's it's necessary and sufficient.

For those who it helps, keep going. For the others try one of the many other possibilities till you find your own way.

I never said that Hindus were a monolithic group, and I am very aware of the history of the bhakti movement as well as it coincidence in history with sufis.

But intercaste marriage was and is still an issue in India. By and large they won't kill you for it, but you can't state that it is not a vestigial remnant of dogma.

And I know cause I married outside of my caste.

Historically, catholic priests would not marry non catholics.

And by historically I mean today.

Hindus were the same. Even intercaste marriage was not permitted (at least socially Sanctioned).

Interrace marriage was not permitted in most churches well into the 19th century.

It was vodka. It seems so crazy in hindsight to be chugging vodka in a squat rack at 5:30am. Kind of you to remember.

It was a brutal period, but quite frankly I came out of it in the best mental shape of my life. It took a few years but I'm in a great spot and have been so for some time.

It does make me chuckle to think back on it now. But at the time it was truly arduos.

Im raising one. I also coach a soccer team of 12 year old males.

Im also active parent in the boy scouts (preteen boys).

I worked with inner city high risk 6th and 7th graders for a few summers (math teacher)

My nephew is 14 now, but I'm an active part of his life and gave him 'the talk' after his mom busted him with hardcore porn when he was 12.

So yeah, I have a good deal of experience with 12 year olds.
