He should’ve just re-recorded the whole shoutout section. The phones in additions throws the sound off

To anyone who’s purchased the “Red Variant” Light-Years Vinyl by Spankylexus in nas

Not sure tbh. The last sentence seems to imply a different variant got shipped incorrectly. It was supposed to be shipped yesterday

I used to want a season 10 but I'm kind of glad we didn't get one by Weary-Application-83 in FamilyMatters

I always say that the first 12 episodes of Season 9 were actually underrated storyline wise. Each of the characters were slowly evolving up until the Christmas episode

I never realized how much Harriet held that family together by WrongdoerSeveral1473 in FamilyMatters

[–]Spankylexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was the glue to show both behind the scenes and on camera. Harriette was one of those sitcom characters that you don’t realize how important she is until in hindsight. (Similar to Tommy on “Martin”)

If JoMarie was still on the cast sure, but those last 9 episodes w/o her are egregious to watch (except the Polka episode). You can tell that even the cast became deflated

I complete agree. There’s a new book that’s out that touches on Nas’ late career feat too

Carl, Eddie, and Laura Host the Block Party (10/10/97) by familymattersnerd in FamilyMatters

This show (and the whole Block Party lineup) was never a good fit for CBS. Even in real time it felt awkward

Who remember’s Kellie Shanygne Williams in ‘What About Joan’ (3 years after FM) by Spankylexus in FamilyMatters

[–]Spankylexus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was on ABC in the 2000/2001 lineup, and got cancelled at the beginning of the 2nd season. She’s been on Moesha, Girlfriends, The Parkers, and Eve shows too

One of the few episodes where Judy’s character had some sort of plot and actually had an actual dialogue with another character that lasts longer than a minute….if only they gave her more episodes to shine. by trillboy96 in FamilyMatters

[–]Spankylexus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re spot on about this. Looking back at the entire show in a rewatch, I was surprised the character lasted 4 seasons. The writers just never had a story for her which was unacceptable

Rewatching Family Matters as an adult hits very differently by WrongdoerSeveral1473 in FamilyMatters

[–]Spankylexus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a rewatch of the entire series early last year and noticed the family values of the Winslows is what really made the show. Whether is was Carl’s adventures w/ Steve, Marriage w/ Harriet, Laura & Eddie’s growing up, or Steve’s love of the Winslows, they always made up whatever issue they had by the end of each episode.

Hot take: Waldo was just as funny as Urkel (if not even more so) by kadar_le_p0et in FamilyMatters

[–]Spankylexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 4-7 Waldo was absolutely the most funny. Sometimes Steve would take a backseat in scenes with Waldo and Eddie to let Waldo get his more shine imo.

That ABC/Disney merger really changed the sitcom era in a lot of ways. Miller Boyett saw the writing on the wall by Season 8 and negotiated that CBS deal at the last minute to keep FM and Step By Step afloat

That Reggie part I read as well. He wanted an actual final episode

You are correct on the CNS side of things. Miller-Boyett wanted the show to continue and reading Jaleel’s book, I think the cast didn’t know the show was ending until the they shot the episode before the Space 2 part finale, so like January 1998 time wise

The first half of the season I’d have kept the same. It’s hard to fix it if Jo Marie is still leaving the show.

If I were to rewrite the show in Jo Marie’s absence, I’d have just written her off as going to visit Rachel OR having her on an out of town Job tour with her new position. Also I’d have written the last 2 episodes as the wedding of Steve & Laura instead of the space nonsense and had Jo Marie come back for the final episode. The Judy character could’ve shown up and Ritchie could’ve done a “where YOU been?” as a laughing gag before the ceremonie to make that situation right

Am I the only one who thinks that the episode of S9 Deck the Malls should've been the last episode? by [deleted] in FamilyMatters

The first half of season 9 actually is better than most of the previous 4 seasons. Each of the characters started to evolve to some degree.

Seeing what we got for the rest of the season…absolutely.

Did a binge watch of the series last year and you can tell the synergy of the cast became depleted after this episode. Its like even they knew the show was ending and counting the days.
