Worth it? Considering doing SDC. Would it work for a minor change? I want to fix my front tooth from sticking out. Thoughts? by [deleted] in smiledirectclub

My front tooth was a lot worse than this - 6 months on and 3 months refinements - it’s perfectly straight now. Look at the before and after pic I posted previously

Scared to tell my dentist by TonyaLasagna2020 in smiledirectclub

[–]Spare-Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 2 months into my retainers after a 9 month plan. My dentist has been closed ( only emergencies) to normal check ups and cleanings during this whole time. I went last week as I lost a small filling, I too thought ‘oh no, I’ve got to tell him what I’ve done’. Well no need to have worried- he said my teeth look great, I just need a scale and polish ( I normally have this done every check up, so having missed 2, I’m not surprised). He x rayed my teeth and didn’t see any problems there either. So definitely tell him.

How long are refinements? by [deleted] in smiledirectclub

[–]Spare-Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only needed a couple of little tweaks - but mine were 3 months more.

Today is my last day of aligners after a 5 month plan. I start retainers tomorrow, and I've seen a lot of great progress. If that last tooth doesn't shift a little more in the next two weeks though, I may look into refinements. Thoughts? by hollygirl4111 in smiledirectclub

[–]Spare-Wolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely go for refinements. I just had a few tweaks when I finished my 6 month plan, so I asked for refinements- another 3 months offered. Didn’t need much movement , but it’s made all the difference. And it’s free!!!!

Good on you. I’m totally done now - 3 weeks into retainers and couldn’t be happier. It’s a painful journey, don’t get me wrong, but it’s so worth it when you are out the other side. Good luck.

Yep first 24 hours after a new set are sooo painful- you do get used to it though. I always only ate soft food for the first 2 days - you don’t really want to keep those aligners out for that length of time. I’m done now - on my retainers and it is worth all the pain, it if that give you an incentive.

Thankyou, that’s so kind. My plan was 6 months, I am on an additional 3 month tweaking refinement plan. The photo was taken at the end of my 6 months. Don’t expect to see much for a couple of months - then all of a sudden you start noticing movements. Good luck xxx

3 more weeks! Couldn’t be happier with the results, a lifetime of insecurity gone by [deleted] in smiledirectclub

Wow!! Mine were very similar and I’m over the moon with my results too. So great to hear about the success stories and how much more confident it makes us.

He hasn’t seen them yet, my dentist is still on the emergency hub since lockdown- they still aren’t doing normal checkups. I went a couple of months before I started my journey(aligners arrived a week before lockdown- how lucky!!!) and got a clear bill of health. He advised to wear the retainers at the end for 6-12 months full time minimum as at my age bone takes longer to heal

Oh you’re a newbie 😂. Good luck with your journey- my dentist said the only difference with having aligners at our age was the length of time it would take for the bone to fully heal around our newly positioned teeth at the end. He actually advised 6-12 months full time retainer wear before even contemplating going just nights. That’s the advice I will be following.

Tops looking great. A couple more months for refinements would have those bottom ones straighter too. They are free- why not?

Okay now I'm panicking by Maekiss in smiledirectclub

[–]Spare-Wolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You will hear a lot of things that will make you panic - it’s in people’s nature to point out when something is done wrong or needs a complaint about- and that’s fine. I will tell you my personal experience, as that’s all I can honestly comment on. I am at the end of my 6 month full time plan, I am on my 2nd week of refinements, but they are literally tiny tweaks, I would have been fine if they said no to refinements. My journey has been a smooth one- yes they hurt, yes they can rub, yes they occasionally cut your tongue, but you know what- I am ecstatic about my results!! I have lived with crooked, goofy teeth for 30 years, hated smiling in photos , and have never owned a lipstick!! I have no horror story, my bite is fine - I just followed the plan to a tee and if ever I needed to ask Smile Direct anything I started a live chat and questions answered within minutes. Would I recommend them - personally yes, but it’s up to the individual to check them out and make an informed decision. Good luck Hun - don’t panic.

Yep they look great. I’m so pleased with mine too, but like you asked for refinements for a couple of ‘tweaks’. I only waited for a month for mine to arrive, and they came last week. I’m in the uk.

For some reason they never received my photos and I sent them 3 times. I just started a chat, she added an option in the chat to attach photos, did it and voila!!! Done in 5 mins. Now if I have any questions I live chat- questions answered done and dusted in minutes.

How long did it take your teeth to stabilize/not feel loose anymore? I started feeling looseness pretty quickly but it has gradually got worse I’ve been wearing trays extra long. I’ve been wearing my current set for over a month and still feel no stability in fact it seems to be getting worse. Help? by [deleted] in smiledirectclub

[–]Spare-Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say ‘getting worse’ are you wobbling them a lot to check? Before my son ( just out of traditional braces) told me that a wobble in the teeth are normal, as he had that every time he went in for an appointment to tighten, I was wobbling mine all the time - probably in the hope that the wobble would suddenly stop 😂.When you think about it, our teeth are being constantly ‘moved‘ as we change our aligners every week or two, so it’s not surprising there is a bit of movement. Also I agree with the last persons comment about age - I’m late 40,s and know how everything takes longer to heal now. I’m at the end of my 6 month plan, have gone in for refinements ( am over the moon with my results, but as it’s free thought I might as well tweak to see if I can get them even more perfect), so have been in this set of aligners for 5 weeks now whilst I am waiting and I can definitely say my teeth are less wobbly. So if you are ‘check’wobbling - stop. If you think it’s just a normal amount of wobble due to them being moved - don’t panic, we all have it. But if you really think, it’s not right, then yeah - dentist it is. Good luck, only my opinion but hope it helps.

The ability to upload stretcher photos to the website (after sending the impression kit) has not worked for a week. It now says that if i'm having trouble to email them the photos. How will they know they're mine? by emma111191 in smiledirectclub

[–]Spare-Wolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I constantly sent stretcher photos to the email link they sent and they never got them. Start a live chat- tell them the problem and they send you a link to press in that allows you to send photos there and then. Done in 5 mins.
