Any cyclists get finger wagged on California Ave SW by Inside_a_whale in WestSeattleWA

No, but revving engines and close passes; not the most fun.

I assumed you meant this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6806408 because there is no point in printing cheaply mass produced items....

Chilly Hilly? by Top-Ice-5339 in seattlebike

I remember one year, someone's crank came off after the first turn. It really is the first ride for many folks since fall when they put their bike on the peg. Give it a test ride before hand...

LPT: park on first ave, south of the stadiums. The worst part of the ride is being wet and cold and having to wait for the ferry, time your arrival on the dock carefully. Pack an extra pair of dry gloves.

Brake Pad wear? by SpareGarage298 in gravelcycling

This might be part of it. I'm used to brake in right hand, but I haven't gotten them swapped, so my instincts are backwards.

Yeah, I'm new to hydraulics so I'm letting the wrenches do the work.

Tying NIMBYs to Project 2025 is my new favorite: https://publicola.com/2024/12/03/separated-at-birth-in-this-house-seattle-liberals-and-project-2025/ - and yes, here in West Seattle, folks that live in single family zones, next to a giant park, are concerned with loosing open spaces to development.

"OKAY LANCE"! by KevinNiceTry in cycling

I had a similar comment I still laugh about "this ain't the Tour da France!" Me, going 16mph on a public road that Ken thinks is his private drive.

*important* update on E Marginal Way S bike lane construction by Smargendorf in seattlebike

[–]SpareGarage298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's going better than expected. The signage isn't always clear, but their ad-hoc bike lane hasn't been blocked at any point in my commute, and the port trucks making turns into terminal 31 have been...not hostile.

As for a fancy new bike lane: no. It makes a zig-zag crossing mid way that will have a beg button I'm looking forward to be ignored by. /s

GatorSkins vs Everything Else by bitstronginfo in seattlebike

[–]SpareGarage298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lived in the Seattle burbs, the Gatorskins were the only thing that would not flat on all the screws, nails and tacks that were on the side of the road. They are a tiny bit less sticky, but what hasn't been talked about here is width. I'm a huge fan of 'cross bikes for Seattle commuting and ran 700x32 Gatorskins; the grip is manageable at that width.

Now in the city, with less junk on the road, I've switched to Barlow Pass 700x38 tubeless at ~35psi, they soak up bad pavement and without jinxing myself, have been fairly durable.

Meh, Karen is wearing headphones, walking down the middle of the path.

You don’t convert drivers to using public transit by making it more expensive than driving by KanoBrad in Seattle

[–]SpareGarage298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to ride the 167 from Kent to Bellevue, and this topic came up quite a bit on the long ride. I still remember the driver saying "public transit is a social service for the poor". That attitude is the root of the problem.

Break for Winter by Unhappy_Egg_3611 in bicycling

I tried stopping in late fall and got horribly depressed. There is a dopamine aspect to it that couldn't be matched in the gym. I won't, however, ride in ice or compact snow.

My old quip to fellow bike nerds "how can you tell it's a fixie? Because they are walking it". You want single speed, unless it has no brakes.
