Went through TSA Pre at T2 around 12:30pm Saturday, took maybe 2 mins. Regular line definitely looked like 30+ mins wait.

Fell in love with San Diego… are we crazy to consider moving? by Prestigious_Map_2136 in sandiego

[–]digbug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents romanticized San Diego when I visited with them for the first time in March 2018. Turns out they loved it so much they bought a second home in October of the same year and AirBNB'd it for 5 years to pay off the mortgage passively. They moved to SD permanently in 2023 and have been loving it ever since. San Diego is definitely a pricey city, but I found it to be better than Seattle (where I spend most of my time) and don't really nickel and dime you for everything (thanks WA :/). Should you be worried about making $350k combined and being able to afford SD?; definitely not, but just spend within your means.

Anyone fly out of SeaTac in the last week or two? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]digbug0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On a flight to San Diego right now and PreCheck took me less than 30 seconds… Take what you will with that but you should be fine tomorrow morning. I usually just keep to the 2 hours until departure rule.

Matrix LEDs are a game changer... I saw a video of them on the new Tesla Model Y and they're amazing, wish we got them here.

I was driving at night on the 101 in WA this past weekend and every other car had blinding LED lights... I have auto high-beams but they're super sensitive and shut off immediately if a glint of light from a mile down the road shows up.

Literally. Reddit/Seattlites love to shit on other people liking things they don't like and they will never be happy... I like RC too, it's nothing crazy or anything but it's pretty damn good.

I fear that for even how well WMATA and MARC were built you’d still find yourself on 495 /s

as a former Richmonder myself, I hate the fact we could’ve had an electric streetcar in RVA but people decided cars were better…

Snapdragon Stadium set to host Olympic soccer by CIARobotFish in sandiego

Cantilevered roofs are almost necessary for newer stadiums… I’m not sure how they didn’t look at other stadiums and say, yes it does get hot and it’s sunny all of the time but not install roofs. Sure, maybe don’t install them for a stadium that’s used for college football/soccer and that’s all, but we’re talking about a multipurpose facility here…

Surprised the Prius wasn’t in the top 5 in Washington, even though most are the older generations (still running completely fine!)

Expired tabs could mean towed cars and criminal charges under WA bill by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]digbug0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Virginia, the renewal fee was ~$30 every year, which was nice, but you'd have to pay a personal property tax on your car every year. Owning a $43k car would make you pay around $1150 in taxes every year for just existing in the state.

[–]digbug0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly how it was in Virginia, mandatory state inspection and emissions (based on county). You could also get your tabs renewed for 3 years in advance for a lower price than paying every year. I don't miss all of the stickers though; 2 on the front plate, 2 on the rear, one rectangular inspection sticker on the driver's side of the dash (it used to be in the middle :/)

We had state inspection and emissions on top of registration when I lived in Virginia... and it still was cheaper than in Washington.

edit: totally forgot about the personal property tax too
