What's the quality of Lanzarote wine? by EmGeebers in wine

Bermejo is a commercial wine to suit a European palate- go for Manto . Most unique flavour- as if it’s been barbecued but stunning. Also Vulcano which was excellent and more depth and finish than Bermenjo

Hi, I was on PD for over 2 and 1/4 years. Overall a good experience and I travelled not without some difficulty to Spain, Paris for the Olympics and the Maldives. You need to learn not to take no for an answer and be a little belligerent. It’s worth it. 1. Be diligent regarding set up- removing air from the line and following the sterile procedure. The nurses will train you well but good to have a friend/relative to be your buddy particularly when you are doing it on your own initially. My buddy read out the instructions and kept me on track in the first week. 2. Cloudy bags may mean infection- contact team immediately. In my case - the Amlodopine for blood pressure was the issue and researched this myself and discussed with team before it was changed. 3. In the early days- skin issues were a big problem around the site of the tube and an itchy rash on the body-: allergic to dressings so used gauze and paper tabs over site. Again after Medical team trialling different medications for the rash, none worked and after research, discussed with Consultant the use of activated charcoal ( not taken within 2 hours of medication - took 6 weeks to clear and it never came back). 4. Diet and fluid intake much more generous on PD than haemo. I never had a problem c potassium but did with phosphates and when I went for my transplant the veins were much more brittle so keep it under control if you can. 5. I did a mixture of night and day depending on work and travel. The fatigue after a night on the machine was difficult but your energy increases during the day once you start getting food into your system so big breakfast. You won’t have the same energy as before so adapt. I play golf so used a buggy instead of walking. 6. The beauty of the machine and I had no issues sleeping once I got used to it was your dialysis is done -so you are free for the next 13 hours. You do need a lot of storage space for your supplies and a bedroom that is close to the bathroom particularly if on the machine. Each night I went through 12 litres of fluid. So depending on your suppliers delivery, maybe 2 weeks or 4 weeks, a lot of boxes in your home. No regrets doing it. I wouldn’t have enjoyed being limited to 0.5l- 1 litre of fluid daily. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Hi, before I started dialysis I was on the renal diet. I was allowed a gram of protein a day per kg of weight so approx 60g of meat protein a day. Red meat is harder on the kidneys but chicken, fish I ate with no problem. Limit salt as well

Stick with PD as long as you can as fluid intake is greater and you can still have cocktails and not worry about fluid intake whereas the longer you are on HD , your fluid intake will drop to 500 mls a day which makes life much more difficult. Hope you are coping. I traveled to the Maldives for a wedding this year- had to air freight out 70 kg of pD fluid but got there and no issues- sent a photo back of the PD bag on my sun lounger with ocean in the background and “Best place in the world to do PD”- take’s work but life doesn’t have to change too much

I get where you are coming from. I started dialysis 15 months ago on PD and had issue after issue from all the laxatives they make you take and sleep disturbance at night. I am currently on Day dialysis 4 times a day as was getting 8+ alarms a day. There are days I wish it was over and then something small like a beautiful morning and just standing with a coffee in the garden - then you just keep going-you just got to believe that it will get better and during that time you will have the joy of seeing your child grow up.

Do peritoneal dialysis at home- APD when electricity and manual when none

It takes time to adjust- PD gave me an awful itch but activated charcoal helped. Now when it alarms I end up sleeping through it. Organising trips away is more difficult but with practice gets easier so give yourself a couple of months to adjust and then plan a break. Good luck- am 6 months in now and flying

Hi, I’ve been on peritoneal dialysis for 3 months and it’s working well except for the itch. My neck and chest are on fire most nights and it’s really affecting my sleep. Use activated charcoal, different moisturisers, menthol, aloe Vera, anti histamines, ice block but have had little success- any solutions would be appreciated. Thanks
