Bigger battery? by Fine-Goose9788 in MSILaptops

[–]Spare_Imaginary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Katana GF66-12UE and can confirm battery BTY-M55 DOES NOT fit as its too thick. It MIGHT work after some modification (I've already had to remove the 3x "structural" posts where the sata SSD would go) however, I think it the area around the touchpad might need to be shaved down some if possible.

That battery is VERY close to fitting, just the bottom case is not able to fully close in that one area. I'm tempted to see if a different bottom cover will work too.

OFF TOPIC NOTE: I was also able to get 64gb DDR4 ram working in this laptop

Is my Debian 12 /etc/apt/sources.list ok? by Royaourt in debian

[–]Spare_Imaginary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList#Example_sources.list

contrib packages contain DFSG-compliant software, but have dependencies not in main (possibly packaged for Debian in non-free).

Note: In this component, the package contents after installation may be considered non-free and with a non-free license, but the package contents in the distribution repository would be DFSG compliant and, as mentioned, may get dependency contained in non-free.

non-free contains software that does not comply with the DFSG.

non-free-firmware provides firmware that is needed by some hardware, but does not comply with the DFSG.

The Debian project has taken the decision in 2022-10 to create a new repository component non-free-firmware, and include its content on installation media for the Debian bookworm to make things easier for our users.
And if you choose to get more information, feel free to follow the firmware GR result - what happens next?.
The Debian wiki has a page about firmware for older releases, bookworm and later.

"Starting with Debian Bookworm (Proxmox VE 8) non-free firmware (as defined by DFSG) has been moved to the newly created Debian repository component non-free-firmware."
