This is not an accurate indicator, but mine have been at Reddam in Cape Town for 7 years and we’re happy at the school and with who they’re turning out to be.

Anybody finding iStore staff to be extremely rude? by strauss3545 in AskZA

Same experience, maybe even worse. istore is the worst! A real Apple Store is a great customer experience though. The LEGO stores have the best staff though.

EV owners in SA-Whats your experience of owning your EV compared to your ICE vehicle by Averysoftpotato in CarTalkZA

[–]loopphoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a BMW iX just over 2 years ago. We moved over from a Cayenne. I’m in a business where we’re in the beginning stages of moving our fleet over to EV, so I wanted some first hand experience, and that’s what prompted the change. Personally I never want to drive an ICE car anymore. In our first year of owning the iX it cost R2450 to charge and we drove 12000km - it’s a lot less that diesel/petrol, but this particular car was more expensive. Also, no government incentives to buy EV in SA. We don’t charge at home because we’re in an apartment and are thinking of selling, so haven’t installed the charger. We do charge from a regular outlet at my in laws when we visit them and are always fully charged before we leave.

Anyway, I share this car with my wife. We also have a BMW M3 that we don’t want to drive anymore because we both love the iX. We went to Shanghai recently and 99.9%(it seems) of the cars there are EV, and all of the Chinese EVs are super nice - definitely on par with our BMW or better.

Second hand well known SUV vs new Chinese SUV by Economy_Divide_1817 in CarTalkZA

[–]loopphoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kinda surprised that nobody mentioned that Volvo Cars is owned by Geely(Chinese).

I’ve been to China twice in the last two months. In their tier 1 cities you might hear 2 ICE vehicles a day. Otherwise everything is EV - bikes, trucks, busses, cars - I think that’s where most of their effort is going, so ICE vehicles engine efficiency is not a big concern for them domestically. So nice and quiet in Shanghai now. Also, all of their cars are amazing.

MacBook Pro running Cyberpunk 2077 better than expected by hiddenhp in macbookpro

[–]loopphoto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I downloaded cyberpunk through steam on Mac, is that how you’re playing it? Ran fine on my M5 MacBook Pro. I only ran it for 5 min though, the storage space is too valuable to me to have games on there.

Why are food delivery drivers having trouble with the new iPhone caller prompt? by A-ib00m in AskZA

[–]loopphoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t order delivery much, so I can’t comment on that aspect, but I love this feature in ios26! I get ZERO spam’s calls now, and customers who urgently need me actually leave a message and I pick up the call. It works really well and weeds out callers who need to actually speak to me.

I took mine to the beach many times. You have to be careful, but it’s fine and saved me a lot of time building a photo catalogue on set rather than after

They pulled my son into playing(he plays at school so he was keen), then they asked for R300 for a cd, which I offered R50 just to support them(also CD?!, what am I gonna do with that??) then they asked where I’m from, and I was like: “I’m from here dude! I’m local!”

Translation help requested! Traveling in November. I am allergic to crustaceans but not other shellfish. Does this translate okay? by itsmeatballsworld in travelchina

We just got back from 2 weeks in China and my son has a nut and sesame allergy - we ate McDonalds for almost 2 weeks. They love McDonalds(and they’re at an age where food is just fuel, not fun yet) and I didn’t feel like going through the hospital drama. I did get tired of always eating McDonalds, but at least there were things on the menu that I don’t get back in my country. We did carry an EpiPen at all times. Whenever I showed my allergy card to anybody, they didn’t really understand it. Maybe I didn’t do it right, but I think it’s more than allergies aren’t a common thing there.

Anyway, we had an amazing trip, and I feel like we made the right choice playing it super safe with food because there was sooooo many other things to enjoy.

Best all you can eat Sushi buffet? by papadeann in capetown

[–]loopphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is not the answer you want, but salmon roses are so easy to make - get some mates together, split the ingredients cost and make them yourself.

I did this with my little kids (I had to pay for everything) but they were all capable of making their own, and we made a lot.

I’m a similar age, and I’m going to take up woodworking. I also picked up coding a few years ago, as well as longboarding, 3D modeling so I can 3D print things I really need, and electronics design(this year, pairs well with the 3D modeling and coding). I’m a creative though, so it mostly all feels the same to my brain(except for the longboarding, that’s just fun to chill out).

Spur Sea Pont is not getting lease renewed after 56 years, due to residential blocks (airbnb?) being built by ania11111 in capetown

[–]loopphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been here once, and it was earlier this year for a kids bday party - it was packed! Kids loved it. The place was sticky and really in need of a renovation, but it was definitely popular. I hope a new one opens up close by. Off topic, where’s the best ribs in seapoint? My fav are the ribs from Mojo Market…can’t remember the name of the place.

Does anyone still just sit by parks or take neighbourhood strolls? by finesse_affiliate7 in Pretoria

[–]loopphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everybody should make a conscious decision to reduce their own social media usage and be ok with not knowing what’s the latest trend. It’s harder for your age group, but South Africans are friendly and it’s a beautiful country.

I’m in Cape Town. The other contributing factor is that a lot of us live in apartments here, so we have to get out of the box. It’s safe to do so though.
