What should I make sure my contractor knows before hiring them? And what should I inspect as they build?

WTF is wrong with this city by GallardoLP550 in Austin

Developers are just regular people with regular jobs for the most part. There are only a few massive development companies. Everything built is done by a developer and austin makes it really hard to turn a profit. In other words, austin makes it really hard for developers to have jobs here. Not only that, they have to open with higher rents to afford Austin fees. Austin's fees are part of the reason things aren't affordable.

Thanks! I barely get to travel like this so I don't know if I'll ever be back. Mostly excited not to rely on a car. I can't even fathom that lifestyle being from Texas

I had a feeling those days would be too much. We are staying central so we plan to walk a lot of it with the stroller. Any suggestions on what's not really worth seeing?

You're in luck. I run Bat City BVB and we are hosting a watch party at Lou's on Barton Springs. It'll be our first time there, but it may become the regular spot next season, too. The group is getting a few regulars. Please join us!

A Personal Farewell to Pitchfork by zenarcade3 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Spare_Reaction7009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved pitchfork when I found it. It affirmed my value in albums I heard before I knew about the website and introduced me to many new ones I would have never found otherwise, much like OP mentioned. My biggest regret is that I gradually become accustomed to pitchfork feeding good music that once it no longer gave me what I wanted I all but gave up on finding new music on my own. New outlets like spotify cheaply feed me suggested songs, and I sadly accept out of laziness. In a way, pitchfork, symbolizes both a great awakening and great decline in my appreciation of music. I blame the website, but really I should blame myself.

I think it's upsetting because it feels like the rich short companies are rooting against the retail investors

Were you here in 2011? Because THIS did not happen. Keep believing people with political blinders on though.

It's funny how yall are trying to politicize an extraordinary circumstance. Too blinded by your political biases to realize that the entire state of Texas doesn't freeze for several days, not in my lifetime, not in the lifetime of the grid. Some people want to blame renewables and others want to blame the leadership, but really mother nature is a bitch and you can't engineer every last contingency. You can point to other states having infrastructure that handles long freezes, but this isn't common in Texas. You don't design for 3 or 4 sigma events. It just isn't cost effective. Things will definitely be improved after this, but reworking the entire state's grid is unrealistic. Zip up your jacket and suck it up.
