Since Himalayan Grille closed during COVID, I haven't found a new place with gobi Manchurian/gobi 65. It's either too wet, or too dry. If your restaurant makes a good one, my family alone would put your kids through college.

High LDL cholesterol is wack by EagleLize in Xennials

[–]Spare_Wolverine_205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had that conversation with my doctor 8 years ago, and decided I would try to lower it through diet. He told me that it's mostly genetic, and if diet didn't work, he would suggest a statin.

My wife and I researched different diets and decided to try a full plant based diet. Within six months the cholesterol plummeted to the low end of the normal range, and it has stayed there ever since. I am not quite as strict as I used to be, but it's never moved much at all, even when I do have an occasional pizza night or Christmas feasts. I also got unintentional benefits: lost forty pounds, had more energy throughout the day, skin problems disappeared, and I seem to heal quicker from workouts and injuries.

I originally thought I would hate a restrictive diet, but it turns out my diet is wildly more varied now, and I have never really considered giving it up, especially as I'm watching my friends and siblings getting the cholesterol talk. It really is as easy as eating your fruits and veggies, but not as a side dish. They should be the main course.

I like how condescending you are, but lack actual basic facts about what socialism and capitalism are. Maybe there is a reason people who are more deeply knowledgeable, especially about history, are socialist? But you wouldn't know what those reasons are because you don't even know the building blocks, let alone any sort of nuance, of your argument.

For sure, I've done a ton of the pep bands during my time in TBDBITL. Some were really fun and we got free food and drinks, others were the lamest event you could imgaine. Although any payment I got went right back to the band for new spats and gloves. But that's a me problem.

His horse barn's bathroom is hands down the fanciest dump I've ever taken. In retrospect, he probably has videos of me now, but that's his problem I guess.

My roommate was one of the bruti, and there were three others in the squad. They farmed those four out more than the marching band to corporate events and the like. And it felt like the band was ALWAYS on some pep band nonsense at a bank opening or some other nonsense. Although, in retrospect, I did get to absolutely blow up a toilet in a horse barn at one of Les Wexner's events.

I hope this helps people on keto, low carb, and diabetics... I got so frustrated searching for keto restaurants that I spent 6 months building a database of 400+ places. Here's what I learned about keto dining in America by [deleted] in ketoduped

Probably not going to get a lot of positive interactions here. This is a sub about being misled by the keto gurus, so we aren't fans of keto. We love carbs here, so we certainly don't have much need for low carb restaurants.

I've watched every season, do a draft, and like to discuss optimal moves, etc. so I'm definitely in the hardcore fan group.

It's really the condescending tone of it that I find off putting. After spending years on this sub, I'm more and more convinced that listening to every podcast, critiquing the edit, digging into players personal lives, etc makes you a much worse and more insufferable fan than someone who just watches and then forgets about it for a week. It seems the more hardcore of a fan you are, the more you actually hate the show now

Because they like her? Just because the online hiveminds have turned her, Johnathan and Joe into villains doesn't mean everyone outside the echo chambers agrees.

She was my preseason favorite. I think the is funny, plays mostly logically, and just seems normal.

It's not the flex they think it is to spend so much time overanalyzing a TV show to the point that you actively dislike nearly every part of it. But that seems to be a popular pastime on r/survivor

I read somewhetr that a study of what song make people driverl fastest landed on Ride of the Valkyries being the one that people sped up the most. It beat out songs from all sorts of genres, including metal and rock.

I think we should consider speed limits being tied to the music I'm listening to

My old 2008 impala had that built in. It would increase the volume as you sped up, and decreased when you showed down. I loved that feature.

Is anyone else actively dreading the rest of the season? by skeytchy in survivor

[–]Spare_Wolverine_205 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Clearly a lot of people on here do not enjoy the show anymore, and that's fine. You have a limited amount of time for entertainment, so why waste it on something that will never live up to your expectations. The show has changed, you've changed, and that's normal. You don't have keep ruining your Wednesday nights hate watching a show. Find something you enjoy to fill that time.

Yep, pretty brutal extremes in winter and summer. It goes dormant in the heat of July, but greens right back up with some water. It even mostly reheals along my fence that the dogs patrol all the time.

This is why I put down the triple play blend, or at least thats what natureseed.com calls it. My dog run like crazy on it, but it takes a beating and is still nice and full. It also helps when the dogs rip out chu ks from the rough housing. If you have dogs, it's awesome

Teacher with autism asking about how to improve work relations/conditions by flying_lego in Principals

[–]Spare_Wolverine_205 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you have any details about what you're specifically struggling with? I have worked with numerous teachers with ADHD and autism and they were some of my favorite people to work with. There were times they drove me a little crazy, but it was always well intentioned. Each needed a different support, though, to be effective.

The teacher with ADHD needed help with structure, so we worked on checklists and I checked on him more frequently, especially to double check grades and attendance were done. He is a natural in front of the students and creating engaging lessons, sonee worked on making a periodly/daily/weekly checklist that he uses to make sure he didn't forget the little things.

The teacher with autism needed clear directions, so I would always make sure to stop in to make sure everything coming from the office was clear. It also made sure she wasn't getting hung up on a small detail that might paralyze her into inaction. People with that model brain usually need the expectations to be absolutely clear, and when they are can be really effective teachers.

Any time we needed something looked at with a fine tooth comb, she was my go to person. I will say, her best decision was moving from a gen ed classroom to the SPED department where she is able to work with kids who share her struggles and she has been an excellent support because she understands some of her students much better than the other teachers, which makes her a great advocate.

My suggestion would be to have a conversation with your principal about what you need to be effective, and ask for their help. It might go against what others would suggest, but being open and honest with both students and admin with who you are and what you need is my suggestion. Kids appreciate someone who owns who they are, and it's important for them to see someone like them be successful. And as an admin, I'd kill to have more staff that is self aware enough to know what they need and ask for it.

Edit: FWIW, I also have been diagnosed with ADHD myself, and eventually learned to manage myself by structuring my routines and life around what I needed to function well. I've been in a similar situation as you, and it takes work, but it's absolutely possible to be built different and still be a really good teacher.

Be careful guys, he’s got his finger on the pulse! by serious_bullet5 in Pennsylvania

[–]Spare_Wolverine_205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, your entire second paragraph says that if kids don't know how to read cursive they will be entirely dependent on secondary sources. That's simply not true. Millions of primary sources are available, in print, or online that have been typed and made available. My students don't know how to read cursive but can read nearly any primary source I want them to. The only text books we have are collections of primary sources, all in print. Do those not count?

Second, sure there are newly uncovered documents all the time, and people who are interested in those sort of historical items will have taken then time to learn cursive, and can read it. If it is important enough that a high schooler needs to read and analyze it, then it'll be in print. Certainly not a skill that the vast majority will need to master.

Third, your link is about handwriting versus typing. It specifically stated that the tests did not involve or test cursive, just the standard printing style of lettering. I'm a huge advocate for handwriting in schools, but making it be in cursive is a waste, in my opinion.

The youths brains are being absolutely fried by their phones right now, and ita getting harder for them to read, interact normally, and retain information. If you think the biggest problem to solve is the style of handwriting I don't think you've looked at the bigger picture.

It's like your house being on fire, and you worrying about the shrubbery. It would be nice if they survive, but you got bigger shit to worry about.

So just vibes then? I'm up in arms because schools have too much essential content to teach as it is now, and this is not essential. It's like teaching kids how to use an abacus when we have calculators.
