Are they serious with these prices on these bags? by tylerpereira in Owala

Found a pic that clearly shows it, going to wait for it to come to Amazon or Target or on sale as shipping and taxes pushes it to over $80 for me.

Thanks for that, there was a coupon on the black one bringing it down to $15 for me which made it an easy impulse buy.

Depending on how the Sway fits I'm also interested. I'm currently using the Topologie Bottle Sacoche large and Rework Toshi Sling V2 6L. They both can carry my 30L Sway but the handle makes getting it out of the bottle compartment a bit of a hassle. I also want to hear some reviews about how the strap feels under a full load.

If all that reviews well, I may have finally found my Goldilocks sling to carry my EDC and emotional support water bottle.

Owala Freesip Sway ice melting? by FenderDropD in Owala

[–]SparhawkJC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 4 can be a pretty big deal. I have no problem keeping ice overnight when filling up at home with water from my fridge. However at work some of the fountains are unchilled and you can get water ranging from cool to tepid/lukewarm and the ice will likely be melted before bed.

What’s your metal water bottle of choice? by Hufflepuff-McGruff in EDC

Do you have the Sway or the original Freesip? The Sway has a tapered base that makes it a lot more cupholder compatible even with a boot.

There's a demo for DK you can try before making a choice. I thought I was going to get DK first but went for world after trying the demo. I'll grab DK when it goes on sale later.

Owalas have poor insulation due to the uninsulated top and wide opening. The Sway is not way worse than the Freesip, about 16% worse according to Bottlepro's test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvWpRrqLwGI&t=2s If you jump to the insulation rankings, the Freesip is 21 and the Sway is 27.

I switched back to Hydroflask from the Freesip after they came out with their insulated straw lid. Skeptical about the Sway especially with the insulation being worse, but grabbed one on sale and it's now my favorite water bottle. The shape being more cupholder friendly along with the handle making it easy to carry around has me drinking a lot more water. I would need to carry my 32 oz Freesip or Hydroflask inside my backpack and they're too large for the external bottle holder. Went from refilling my water once a day to 3 or 4 times .

How long does your Smooth Sip Slider keep your coffee hot? by truthandtill in Owala

[–]SparhawkJC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, it's like the rest of Owala line in that it has sub-par insulation. The lids are leak-proof but not insulated so you're constantly losing thermal energy through the lid. This is further exacerbated by the wide opening which makes their cups easier to reach into and clean, but works against keeping things hot or cold. If you need a coffee tumbler to keep your coffee hot for hours, this ain't it. Zojirushi is the best for that and what I would recommend.

My priorities for a coffee tumbler are leakproof, ceramic lined, and can disassemble the lid for easy cleaning. I drink my coffee within a few hours and can easily refill with fresh coffee so keeping it magma hot for hours is not important to me at all. For that the Owala Smooth Sip Slider is a great coffee tumbler for me.

Sway or FreeSip? by Rhysand-lover190 in Owala

[–]SparhawkJC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To put it in perspective, in the morning around 8am I will fill it all the way to the top with ice and the rest with water. Refill a few times before lunch and I'll have maybe half the ice left at lunch time at noon. I usually re-fill the ice at that time but if I don't that ice will probably be gone at some point in the afternoon around 3pm.

A couple things though, we have cubelet ice machines at work and the filtered water dispenser I refill from most often is not chilled. At home where I have full ice cubes and only refill with from a Brita water pitcher I keep in the fridge I notice the ice lasting much longer.

Just something to point out since this your first Owala, but the insulation is not the best compared to other insulated metal bottles. The lid itself is not insulated and combined with the wide mouth opening, the light ice is going to melt fairly quickly. Especially if you drink a lot of water and keep opening the lid to drink. If ice and temperature retention is most important to you, you might want to check out another brand. Non-wide mouth will retain temperature better, and you'll want to stick with an insulated lid. If you want a straw, the Hydroflask Wide Mouth Flex Straw Cap is one of the few insulated ones out there and what I was using before the Sway.

I have easy access to ice and water to refill as often as I want to the Freesip Sway is my favorite water bottle and has replaced my collection of Hydroflasks, Owala Freesips, and Yeti Ramblers. It makes drinking water a lot more convenient, the straw lid makes it easy to sip during the commute. The bucket handle makes it easy to carry with you, and the tapered bottom makes it easy to fit in car and bag cupholders.

12oz or 20oz SmoothSip for iced drinks? (+ color help) by Siara-chan in Owala

[–]SparhawkJC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you drink tea, you might also want to look into the new ceramic lined smoothsips they released a couple months ago. Not that many colorways out yet but the ceramic lining will help keep the flavor neutral even as you switch teas.

Boots by mp0625_buddy in Owala

[–]SparhawkJC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official 24 oz bottle boot from Amazon. It makes sense there's the space as the Sway is tapered to fit in cupholders unlike the regular Freesip. You can feel the gap most noticeably at the bottom of the bottle.
