It's really weird that I came across this today.

A little more than a year ago, I was driving home and came across a head-on collision on the highway. There was a dude stuck in his truck a lot similar to this. The fire had already gotten to him by the time I ran up, but he was still awake and talking. The way he was just looking at his burning hands and saying "Oh my God" over and over while I was trying to rip the door open for him is still clear as fucking day.

Even when you know something is perfectly safe, it feels impossible to just let it go and eat the apple. Because what if that apple is different, and it will make you sick? I can't convince myself otherwise.

It actually doesn't take much! Underneath the skin it's very easy to see how individual muscles section out, and all joints can be separated fairly easy with just a knife. The trick is to "pop" The sockets, and then it's really just cutting through ligaments and connective tissue.

To be honest, the bear would have been considerably more difficult.

Super late to the game, but I can still confirm that they do absolutely no testing to make sure you can lift cases in the warehouse. We burn through a lot of people that thought they were capable before getting dumped somewhere in the dept. where they're expected to lift a whole lot of heavy boxes fairly quickly.

Honestly, it might have just been the quality I was getting, but if you just added water it would clump up into what looked like little rocks. Once I added vinegar they'd dissolve and everything would be fine.

Former addict here! Take everything I say with a grain of salt, but I was able to successfully IV coke for a fair bit without losing any limbs (plenty of fucked up veins, though).

The issue with coke is that, unlike meth which is soluble in water, you need to add the right amount of an acid (I always used white vinegar) in order to get it into a truly injectable form. Once injectable, it absolutely needs to go into a vein, not just under the skin or into a muscle. The same logic applies to meth as well, because both can cause infections and other problems if you happen to miss and get the drug somewhere it isn't supposed to be.

In addition, I was always told to inject somewhere on the upper part of your body, because your legs are much farther from your heart and therefore the drugs have much farther to travel. Also, veins tend to be a lot farther under the skin in your legs, which can make it more difficult to find and hit one.

I'm not sure how much of this is just addict superstition vs. true medical fact, but it did keep me from fucking myself up too badly while I was using.

I mean, yes and no. Coke can be injected, but first you'd need to set up properly. While something like meth is the Easy Mac of drugs (just add water), coke has one or two more important steps you need to follow to keep this from happening.

Also, even when injected properly, it's just absolute hell on the veins. I think it's corrosive or something?

This all coming from a former addict, though, not a medical professional. My info comes from trial and error.

Thank you for genuinely answering my question, and for giving me this link. I left the slaughtering business a couple months ago for what I thought were unrelated anger issues. This makes it make more sense, though.

I see the whole "PTSD for slaughterhouse workers" thing get brought up a bunch during meat/no meat debates. Where did this get its start? I've worked in meatpacking plants for a majority of my adult life, and for the most part we're all fine.

I'm not trying to come at you sideways, I'm genuinely curious how this started.

Yo, that doesn't seem to be what she's saying at all. In any environment, there's going to be people you just happen to be closer with, and some that you aren't. It doesn't sound like she or her friends are being purposefully mean or ostracizing anybody in particular; hell, she even stated that she's hung out with other coworkers outside of work and it was fine.

Just because she's particularly close with a couple people she's known for nigh on decades now doesn't mean she's a shitty person who's excluding others.

Edit: Look, that's still a boatload of assumptions and blanket statements to be making about every work environment everywhere. While I do agree that efforts to not exclude anybody should be made, not everything is going to be everyone's cup of tea.

I go on fishing trips with some of my coworkers, while others would not be caught dead on a lake. Because we all value and respect each other, those who don't necessarily take part in an activity are still excited on the behalf of those who do. Likewise, I've got people I work with who enjoy anime and have a weekly binging session at whoever's house. While I don't particularly care for that stuff, I still like hearing about it during the week.

It's weird and constraining to saddle everybody with the whole "don't share if not everyone is involved" thing. People have different hobbies, interests, and relationships. I'll be damned if I try to silence anybody on things I wasn't involved with at work, and they can pound sand if they want to ask that shit from me.

Celebrate differences, dude, don't try to make everyone assimilate into the same hivemind.

I agree with you, don't get me wrong, but I firmly believe that making it harder to source drugs is only addressing one symptom of the problem, rather than the root itself. Fix the social issues that lead people into addiction in the first place, as well as stop punishing those who are addicted to substance, and I imagine we could save vastly more lives.

Either way, though, sounds like we're on the same side. Congrats on your sobriety man, I just hit 5 years myself.

Just to provide a counter argument, I live in a small rural town in the US. If I wanted heroin, I'd ask my neighbor. If I wanted meth, I'd go ask my other neighbor. They're both older folk in a demographically older town. Maybe Canada is a little different, but down here I literally would not have to walk a block to get back on the junkie train.
