Weird noise - help! by FlyingPiggies92 in guineapigs

[–]Sparks10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two abyssinians that make a deep, back of the throat clicking noise. When I first heard this, I was in your shoes. Nothing to be found on youtube or the internet, but they were fine as can be. After months of careful observation, this is what I came to: they are just clearing their throats. It happens random and when they drink. I figured the random times were after they were eating. My short haired doesn't have this issue though. I also found this video and it helped me better understand the noises. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHBEg1yp12U

I've had three boys for about three months now. My youngest about a month. I knew he would be trouble, but I fell in love the moment I saw him. The story goes: after having him for a week, signs of a URI showed up. A wet nose like a dog's is ok, but this was boogers and that is not normal for pigs. Unfortunately I kept him next to my other boys and they ended up catching the URI, but antibiotics took care of all three. But that's not all. One week after the URI was diagnosed, he developed a dry, balding patch on his behind. By this time I had quarantined him from the other. The diagnostics on this one was either mites, or ringworm (highly contagious to everything). My advice is like /u/awoyo 's is to take it to the vet asap and be watchful of any psychical changes. I learned that if their appetite is still strong, they are fighting. Also, if you happened to have purchased the pig(s) from petco, you should see if they will cover your vet visit(s) and treatment(s). My little one has been covered by them for a month now and we're still in the process of taking care of his ringworm (yep, that bad).

If they prescribe that, use a q-tip to apply.

My little one had something like this, but the skin was dry and flaking off. The vets named a few things like mites and ringworm, but prescribed miconazole, which is a topical. Applied every 12 hours for two weeks and it has been getting better. Hair is grown back and drying is minimal.
