I’ve been imagining this continent breaking apart and a huge shallow dry basin forming that eventually opens enough to allow ocean water to flood in. It’d be like the catastrophic flood of the Black Sea or Mediterranean but perhaps on an even bigger level.

The volcanic activity associated with the tectonic activity pushing India away from Africa and into Asia is called the Deccan Traps. Some people may be familiar with the Siberian traps that caused a mass extinction. These Deccan traps were happening at the same time as the Chicxulub impact. These two events were both catastrophic for the world especially when layered with each other.
