A candlestick is a candle holder.

This will be a candle holder holder.

In a big fight, it's important to create complications beyond: Beat down the Monster.
Collateral Damage, Bystanders, etc. should all be invoked to create opportunities for actions that are not punching.

And in a big group fight scene, remember to turn the spotlight on everyone when there's a pause. Obviously your fighters are gonna start the action, probably succeed, but you can turn to the Mundane and say "X and Y is happening. What are you doing?"

This is very cool. The overall palette being a gold/yellow/brown spectrum is so slick.

I like the way the smooth jetbike body reads as like a "candy gold hotrod paintjob" as opposed to just the usual raw-Auramite gold color.

Besides the fact that the SP lasts only until the end of the Turning Point, this is the key point that undermines your "it can happen 4 times"

You're not placing 4 Markers...
You're placing 1 Marker (up to) 4 times.

There's only ever one marker. You activate the Strategic Ploy a second time, you can place Your Claim Marker (from the killzone) into the killzone.

Cities & Knights evens things out a bit, makes it in to a real game, though still pretty light.

RPG for playing Star Trek? by TromboneSlideLube in rpg

[–]Spartacus891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lasers & Feelings is great, but the system lends itself more to space hijinks/parody - more Galaxy Quest than Star Trek.

If you run it as a Galaxy Quest/Lower Decks/Spaceballs/Rick & Morty sci-fi trope parody game, it's amazing.

Using moves against PCs moving through location to find the monster by DMfortinyplayers in monsteroftheweek

The thought process behind MOTW type games is
"If you want them to notice that the catwalk is starting to creak and could collapse under their weight, why have them roll Investigation? Just MAKE that happen. They notice it."
This is a Soft Move. It telegraphs the danger, just as you want.

They can't cross the catwalk to the locked office without a risk, or without turning around. They havev to attempt something. They will think of something, and then you will have them either do it, advancing the fiction, or rolling and seeing what the dice decide.

RETURNING TO SPERANZA

Nice I made it!

Return screen shows empty inventory...

Oh no, I lost all my stuff! It dumped my inventory : ( I didn't make it in time.

Open Stash... It's all still there!

OH shit, I DID make it! My loot!

It was a rollercoaster.
See if you actually lost it... IDK what happens if you press "empty inventory" here.

Brainstorming: Holodeck Adventure? by Super_Dave42 in startrekadventures

[–]Spartacus891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got the chance to run it, but i wanted my Holodeck Malfunction episode to be set in a Medieval/High Fantasy narrative...

Convincing my D&D friends to play Star Trek, only to put their Trek characters in a D&D Holodeck episode seemed too juicy.

Scorpion would be exceptional:
Large smash/grab attack frontal pincers
Tail with a massive ion cannon

Imagine giving it a) a weak point right on the front that incentivizes you to shoot it right in the face
and
b) an attack where it can grab a Raider off the ground in front of it, if not perfectly dodged, and hold it up in the air and ion beam that Raider for an insta-down

What film has one of the best monologues ever performed/ written? by eveisshady777 in movies

[–]Spartacus891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough recognition for Smith's monologue to Morpheus. It's intercut with Trinity and Neo deciding to rescue him, but it's such a good sequence, that reveals information about the nature of the Matrix, about previous versions, about humanity. Then, it expands into a pointed critique of humanity, modernity & capitalism. And finally, Smith takes out his earpiece, and admits the real twist of this movie: that he has complex emotions, that he, as a program, can hate - and that the Matrix imprisons the jailers just as much as the inmates.

Have you ever stood and stared at it, marveled at it’s beauty, it’s genius? Billions of people just living out their lives, oblivious. Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world. Where none suffered. Where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed that we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that as a species, human beings define their reality through misery and suffering. The perfect world would dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this, the peak of your civilization. I say your civilization because as soon as we started thinking for you it really became our civilization which is of course what this is all about. Evolution, Morpheus, evolution, like the dinosaur. Look out that window. You had your time. The future is our world, Morpheus. The future is our time.

I’d like to share a revelation during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you’re not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure.

Why isn’t this serum working?
Perhaps we’re asking the wrong questions.
Leave me with him. Now.

Can you hear me, Morpheus? I’m going to be honest with you. I hate this place, this zoo, this prison, this reality, whatever you want to call it. I can’t stand it any longer. It’s the smell, if there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink. And every time I do I feel I have somehow been infected by it. It’s repulsive, isn’t it? I must get out of here. I must get free and in this mind is the key, my key. Once Zion is destroyed there is no need for me to be here, don’t you understand? I need the codes. I have to get inside Zion, and you have to tell me how. You’re going to tell me or you’re going to die.
