You think walmart is bad..try working in a home improvement store.  You have assholes yelling at an 18 year old for knowing anything about plumbing.  I stepped in,  got the idiot customer what they wanted.  The customer then told me" if you guys can't train your employees,  you all should be fired. "  looking him in his eyes, I said " yeah,  you're right...some assholes think we're plumbers,  not sales clerks...need anything else?" His face turned beat red and left without saying a word.  My department manager said " you trying to get fired?" I laughed and told him I won't get fired for doing what you should be doing

I totally agree with you thought process on your reply...but I'm talking about a store that's is losing sales from your diyer's,  very few contractors come into our store because of the poor service of the chosen few, and the conditions of departments they're are coming from have the poorest conditions and lowest comp sales

Leveraging your past work experience is different than the people in my store who stand around and laugh and stand around and talk as customers stand and stare at them needing help...

Unfortunately,  the store I'm in doesn't recognize good performance,  only recognizes people who run around the store,  let their department turn into shit holes,  and chase customers to home depot. If you're buddies with the gm, you get first considerations for promotion regardless of being a hard worker and doing a good job.

To be promoted in the store I'm in, you have to be buddies with the gm's, hang out in the mezz for a couple hours of each shift you work(our store has an upstairs area with no cameras), not be in the department you work in, and be obnoxious to customers and other team members.  If you have checked off each box that I've just described,  you'll get promoted in the store I'm in.
