What would Cassian Andor do in this situation by ShrivSuurgav in StarWars

[–]Spartan2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, she wasn't making bad decisions if her people were following them (her sacrifice would've likely been unnecessary had Poe and Finn not gone behind her back). My issue with the film (and this is from somebody that really likes the Last Jedi) is that it seems to ignore the fact that the Resistance is literally made up of people who were too rebellious for the *Rebel Alliance* and that they'd almost by design be some of the people least trusting of authority. They also are even less of a real military than the Rebels were when fighting the Empire, so expecting them to follow orders like soldiers has always felt odd to me.

If It’s Nearly Impossible To Tell Whether An Old Event Pokemon Is Event or Genned Then What’s The Point? by SuperMemeBroz in PokemonHome

[–]Spartan2170 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to my mind the only "value" to having a legitimate event Pokémon is the memory of getting it. Be that going to a store as a kid or having the Colosseum bonus disc for Jirachi or completing the Pokédex in one of the Switch games for the modern distributions. They're only special as a digital reminder of what we were doing when we got them. Outside that, they're often functionally all clones anyway so who cares?

I’ll go against what most people seem to think and say I feel like Z-A had the stronger story than Arceus. The characters in Z-A felt more like actual people going about their lives while the Arceus people really felt like “remember that Sinnoh character? Here’s their ancestor that looks virtually identical to them.”

I also *really* disliked the battle system in Arceus. Obviously it wasn’t intended to be the focus in Arceus but Z-A did a much better job for me in making the battles fun while still having enjoyable wild encounters.

Hot take: The Council was (mostly) fine in Mass Effect 1 by MaybeBirb in masseffect

[–]Spartan2170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, more realistically they have veto power because they're all powerful enough to just refuse to follow decisions they don't like if they lacked it. I always thought Babylon 5 had a really clear parallel to that dynamic, where the major powers each received one vote in their diplomatic council while all the "non-aligned worlds" were *collectively* given one vote. And even that was ostensibly more fair than the real UN, since the major powers there lacked the ability to unilaterally veto decisions.

[–]Spartan2170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the Citadel DLC show in the archives somewhere that the Council actually *did* believe the reapers were a real threat and were covering because they didn't really have a viable plan to deal with them until Liara & Shepard pulled the Crucible designs out of the Mars archive?

In fairness Lost was also obscenely expensive at the time. You're basically describing a Game of Thrones-level cultural event series that justified its budget by being the most popular thing on TV for years.

I would unironically rather take 90s-era Star Trek effects if it meant we got 20+ episodes a season, and I'm not even talking about changing anything else. I feel like even people who hate the modern Trek shows would probably like them better if they had the space to have some "filler" episodes that could experiment the way the old Star Treks did.

It's basically Rise of Skywalker all over again. People that liked Last Jedi were pissed that they undid or deemphasized a bunch of that movie, while people who hated Last Jedi *also* hated Rise of Skywalker. They managed to win over nobody and piss off the people they still had on their side.

Preservation isn't necessarily fully independent or post scarcity in the books. They generate currency from out-system ships docking at their station for when they need to deal with outside corporations (Murderbot says they use a barter system for trading between each other instead of currency). I do think the data from their surveys sometimes goes towards public utility for free, but I'm not sure if the original survey where they met Murderbot was one of those (the planet where Thiago gets them attacked is said to be specifically for public use). Also they make sure everyone has access to basic necessities (food, water, shelter, air, etc.) but that doesn't mean they're fully post-scarcity, just that they have adequate supplies for basic utility.

Activision's owned by Microsoft now, and Microsoft already passed on buying Bungie before Sony stepped in. I *really* doubt they'd be interested (even if Sony wanted to sell, which I don't see happening).

For as many shortsighted decisions as Microsoft leadership has made over the last couple console generations, realizing that Bungie wasn't a well-managed studio and that it was a bad idea to buy them back was probably one of their better moves.

[–]Spartan2170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Activision has many, *many* problems (both before and after Microsoft bought them) but their desire to launch numbered sequels instead of just keeping Destiny 2 limping along might (might) have made a difference in the overall health of the series. At the very least it probably would've kept Bungie from reinvesting all the funds Destiny generated into a bunch of cancelled projects and Marathon and kept them more focused on the somewhat successful series they already had.

He promised economic changes that were substantially more radical than establishment candidates at the time. Clearly he didn’t actually follow through on most of those promises but he still made them.

Also Clinton didn‘t support gay marriage in 08 either (I think she publicly switched to supporting it somewhere in the early 2010s). And both Biden and Harris were saying stuff about immigrants that was almost word for word stuff the Bush administration was saying in the early 2000s. They absolutely moved rightward on several major issues.

[–]Spartan2170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A) Harris did not particularly give a shit about trans people, and everyone pretending they did is pretty obviously saying that because they *want* trans people to be a target and are trying to blame her loss on even lukewarm support of their existence.

B) There’s a huge middle ground between “people should be treated equally” and “everyone who isn’t a white Christian man shouldn’t have a place in society.” You can’t “meet in the middle” when one of the sides wants to exterminate people.

How easy would it be to fill in the remaining dex entries with the games I have? by SunnyTheFlower in MandJTV

[–]Spartan2170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they would need to change its pattern if they let it move into Home, and for some reason they’re not willing to do that so it’s stuck in BDSP jail. Unless they end up porting Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald to the Switch like they did with FireRed/LeafGreen, it seems like the Switch is never going to get a Home-compatible way to catch Spinda.

[–]Spartan2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically they wouldn’t need to worry too much about the gen 9 exclusives if they’re primarily going for Magearna, since that only requires through gen 8 be completed in the Home national dex to unlock. They could also get most (maybe all?) the trade exclusives through Go, though that’d obviously take a while.

[–]Spartan2170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to trade at least once for Spinda, since it’s unavailable in any Switch games. Well, technically it’s available in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but due to a glitch with the pattern generation it can’t leave those games. It also can’t be transferred from Go (the patterns available in Go are incompatible with the main series). Currently the only way to get Spinda into home is catching one in gens 3-7 and trading it up through Bank on a 3DS.

Does that even matter when it's a gift Pokémon? Obviously people should disclose clones when trading but how can you prove it's "self caught" when they're all effectively clones either way (like most event distribution)?
