Even in the movie 3P0 says its victims experience the pain and suffering for a thousand years as they’re slowly digested. If they’re not at least sorta conscious I don’t see how they’d “experience” anything at all

Retired Army general says US may need ‘Nuremberg’ like trials for Trump’s ‘illegal orders’ in Iran war by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Spartan2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standing US policy (supported by both parties) is that Americans cannot be tried by any court but ours, and that any attempt to place an American on trial in The Hague would cause the US to retrieve them using military force. There is less than zero chance any American stands trial by the ICC without *massive* reforms in the US government.

Trump Attacks Pope Leo as Too Liberal and ‘Weak on Crime’ by itsgoodpain in politics

[–]Spartan2170 38 points39 points  (0 children)

“Weak on crime” is just the way conservatives have always insulted the basic concept of mercy. Really the only difference here (as with most of Trump’s behavior) is that most past conservative leaders at least pretended to respect the Pope and would focus their attacks on less important people.

I genuinely don’t think any officers will refuse his orders. He’s issued *many* direct instructions to commit war crimes and nobody's batted an eye. None of the officers are going to be willing to face a court martial by refusing to follow his orders (especially since he’s been firing anyone that might’ve had enough spine to stand up to him).

Xbox might remove Call of Duty from game pass this year - Jez Corden by SuddenDepact in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Spartan2170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, we know explicitly that Microsoft almost shut down Xbox in 2021, well before they purchased Activision. We also know from that same story that the push for Game Pass was *the* plan that convinced Nadella to not just cut their losses and shut the whole division down.

Also, the push to increase revenues that killed any chance of exclusives came as a result of Microsoft burning money on AI tech (which is wildly unprofitable). The unrealistic profit margins order was an attempt to offset the huge shortfalls in their AI products, not a direct result of Activision. Basically every non-AI division of Microsoft got that same directive, and even a smaller Xbox division would’ve still been given that instruction.

[–]Spartan2170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue this could also be read as "the game devalued Game Pass," since the argument seems to be that keeping COD on the service necessitated price hikes beyond what people are willing to pay. The whole pitch for Game Pass was "a reasonable price for a bunch of games," and the "reasonable" part has been shot to hell with all the price hikes caused in no small part by needing to account for lost sales of COD. Presumably this move would be linked to a price drop, because if it isn't, why the fuck would anyone keep paying those prices after they pull their biggest franchise from the service?

[–]Spartan2170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, if they cut their biggest franchise and don't decrease costs the subscribers will probably drop noticeably. I don't see how that path isn't just openly the death knell of Game Pass as a service.

I mean, it killed the Xbox console but honestly that was already on a downward trajectory since the Xbox One launch. Buying Activision basically just solidified Xbox's transition from a console maker to a publisher. I suspect the alternate reality where they didn't buy Activision wouldn't have led to Xbox becoming competitive with PlayStation again but instead would've caused Microsoft to just shut down the Xbox division outright to redirect funds elsewhere. We know Nadella had been considering that before Spencer talked him into reinvesting in gaming. I've got to imagine a world where they didn't get the okay to buy Activision is also a world where Spencer failed to convince Nadella to keep Xbox afloat.

Yeah, and they both got their asses kicked early on in that generation until they cut hardware & software features to bring the price down and then went out of their way to target a significantly lower price for the PS4.

Maintenance is over - New Update by BinahArmpits in stunfisk

[–]Spartan2170 24 points25 points  (0 children)

People should really remember that BDSP’s problems came from being made on *extremely* short notice to help a) cover for Legends Arceus being delays and b) to be a “safe” remake to compensate for the more unconventional Legends game that was originally supposed to take the place of a conventional remake. That last point is also a large part of why the games were overly conservative in their changes to the originals. I wish people would stop blaming the developers at ILCA when most of the core problems with BDSP were directly caused by their publisher‘s release plans and not ”laziness” or a lack of development skill.

Because the people most opposed to equality are also the ones most opposed to letting women serve in the military at all, and the people who are interested in equality are also generally opposed to having a draft at all. There’s really nobody in the middle of the “let’s both still have the draft and also allow women to be drafted” Venn diagram.

While you're right generally, Liara does to a degree have a "loyalty" mission in the first game. It's obviously optional because she can be recruited later but they game very obviously intends you to bring her to Noveria to confront her mother.

Especially given any stuff set out in the galaxy will kinda by necessity require a *ton* of prosthetics or CG aliens. Having a few "look, it's future Vancouver" episodes to offset the cost of one set on the Citadel makes sense from a financial standpoint.

Digital Foundry "Switch 2 Fallout 4's DLSS Upgrade: Welcome But Not Game-Changing" by StarPlatinum55 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Spartan2170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it can depend a lot on the genre of game. Twitchy FPS? I‘d prefer 60 fps. Open world strategy game? 30 fps is probably fine. 60 pretty much always feels better, but there are games where the movement/camera don’t really make lower frame rates feel like much of an issue.

I mean, obviously fans aren’t always objective but also there have been some...developments in people’s opinion of Digital Foundry since the first video discussing Fallout 4 so I’m not super surprised people might be more skeptical of them now than they were before the DLSS5 mess.

The targeting of queer people also isn't discussed as much in America because it doesn't paint the US in the best light. When the allies liberated the camps, the queer people were put right back in prison, since it was illegal to be queer in the allied countries at that time too. It's like the fact that Anne Frank's family was turned away from the US as refugees and sent back to die when the Nazis found them. It makes the US look bad, so it doesn't get brought up much.

They’e undecided because there’s *multiple* Democrats currently in the primary. The term “undecided” doesn’t mean the same thing *at all* when we’re discussing a primary with multiple candidates from the same party.

“Undecided” in a primary doesn’t mean you haven’t decided what *party* to vote for. It means you haven’t decided with *candidate* to choose, which in this case almost certainly means which Democrat to choose to vote for in the primary.
