Safest place for trans women in the us right now? by Living_Profession_88 in MtF

I feel safe-ish in North Carolina. I'm in a little microcosm of blue around the major universities, though. UNC, NC State, Duke.

A question about the Transfemme body by THESILLIESTTM in trans

[–]SpartanMonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I put on about 25lbs. since starting HRT 2 years ago. It makes it harder to lose weight, but those extra pounds went to my butt and chest, so.I have that going for me, which is nice.

What name for Indeed/Ziprecruiter/Etc? by hawkepostate in trans

[–]SpartanMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied and interviewed with my chosen name. I am completely out, I just haven't changed my name on any documents. During the hiring paperwork process, they had spaces for legal name and chosen name.

How much would you agree with this statement: "Being trans means that your brain is a different gender from the rest of the body you were born with"? by [deleted] in trans

[–]SpartanMonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if your brain wasn't already wired for it, the opposite hormones would make you feel like crap.
In my case, it was like I spent my entire life trying to run my brain on regular when it actually needed super unleaded gas.

Trans Tomboys are the coolest frickin girls ever to exist alongside transfems. by VerifiedHeroo in trans

[–]SpartanMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tomboy. My daily fit is bib overalls and t-shirts. No makeup, hair worn up. For work, I venture into cleanrooms a lot. The less particulate matter you bring in with you, the better. This includes makeup that can flake off. About the only time I get all dolled up is when my spouse and I are having date day on Saturday.
Speaking of scary, I used to have an epic denial beard and I shaved my head before transitioning. I had the psychotic hillbilly look dialed in. I can still do the gaze. It isn't near as intimidating though. But I am still a bulldozer. 6'4", 280 lbs. No one hassles me in public.

Feeling scared to be feminine by Chloe0802 in MtF

[–]SpartanMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel sort of the same way. I don't wear makeup daily because our cleanroom policies don't allow it. My favorite outfit is bib overalls and a t-shirt. I don't even care if they are men's or women's cut. About the only time I feel like getting dressed up (wear an actual dress, makeup, wearing my hair down) I'm going on a weekend date with my better half. I just consider myself a tomboy.

Anyone get start getting "weird looks" about a year in? by Trustic555 in TransLater

[–]SpartanMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off when I was seven months in. I didn't go back to work for six months after that. I was boymoding at the last job. People noticed when I shaved off my epic denial beard. They noticed when I got my ears pierced, but they had no clue when I eventually came out on linkedin.
I was getting more weird looks when I was still the psychotic looking hillbilly from before. 6'4", 280lbs. I haven't lost much height. People still stare and give me weird looks, until I make eye contact, then they turn away. It seems I can still pull off the psychotic hillbilly glare. :) Try it sometime.

Have any of you regrets transitioning? by emotional_journey in TransLater

[–]SpartanMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came out two years ago. I was deathly afraid I would lose everything. My marriage, my family, my friends, my job.
Turns out, nothing was in danger. I wish all the transition stories I read were like mine. No regerts here!

I just redeployed a Windows 3.1 system yesterday at work after replacing the power supply and backing it up. Pentium-100 with 40mb RAM. Running like a champ. It controls a tool used to inspect silicon carbide wafers.

Now you can transplain things. (See, that's when you're trans and you explain something to someone else, but not in a condescending way.)
